I guess I've never "gotten" Barkley.

It would be harder if a Professional Wrestler bashed each of your kneecaps with a sledgehammer after each loop.

But harder like that does not necessarily make it more appealing.

It's one of those things where you (me) think to yourself "How can anything really be that hard????" And then these incredible ultrarunners attempt it every year and so few have ever finished, let alone gone halfway. It's one of those things where i would like to see to believe.

There are some races out there that i could care less about ever doing, but then there are some that just get me curious.

You really do have to see it to believe it. Frozen Head is in my neck of the woods, so to speak, so I've been there. There are actually some runnable trails in that park. However, even the short sections of "candyass" trail that are part of the Barkley are more than I care to tackle. I'm doing a technical mountain trail marathon in a couple of weeks, the kind that normal people tackle. It will undoubtedly kick my ass. Yet, I'd rather have to run it, then do it a second time on my hands and knees, crawling backwards, than to attempt half a loop at Barkley. That terrain is just brutal I get a kick out of reading the race reports every year, and I do admire the heck out of those tough enough to "try" it. But, just call me a candyass, because I'm not tough enough for that patch of woods. .

Some may consider this insanity !!

I only wish I were capable of doing such a race.
