Good Morning!Good luck to all the racers this weekend! Wednesday was my rest day, Thursday morning I slept through my run so I had to run last night. My legs felt like bricks in the beginning and I thought I may just run 3 rather then 5. Well at mile 1 I decided that I would run 5 so I wouldn't have to run 5 today. At mile 2 I was at 17:55. I had to stop for traffic soon after. I then went on and finished 5 miles at 44:28 (which included the 38 seconds I had to wait for traffic). This was my best 5 mile run ever. I was pretty pumped after that. But that quickly wore off and I slept through my morning run. Nice! Looking forward to the race reports!! ------------------ Jen

Hey Guys! I've been lurking your group for a while, but am going to officially join now, if that's cool. I completed OHR about a month ago and found that since I didn't have a plan to follow anymore, I was letting my runs slide. Two weeks of only getting out there twice a week to run and I decided I needed a goal. So I talked my brothers into running a 20K with me in May. That's a LONG time away, and it's not quite a HM, but it's close enough. I have almost eight months to train, so that's a crazy amount of time, but I'll need it. I'm a very slow runner (ran my first 5K two weeks ago in 35:33), but I'm not too concerned about speed at this point. I figure that'll come along as I increase my base mileage. Got a nice and easy 3 mile run with my daughter last night. My long run is Saturday and I plan to do it on the TM, because it's easier to keep my pace slow inside for my long runs. Anyway, I look forward to being a part of the group. This thread seems to be really great!

Hey Gang! I've been offline most of the day. Took the day off to run a few errands.Wbertha - Internet Malfunction?! Would be the end of the world wouldn't it? LOL Hope that stretching routine works well! I keep thinking I should take it easy tomorrow myself seeing as how I have a real 1/2 in just 4 more weeks! Smiddleton - Have a good 10K race this weekend! Jen - Sounds like a great 5 mile run! LOL at the 38 seconds waiting for traffic! Monnik - Welcome to the thread! Good luck on your training for that 20K! And congrats on setting your first 5K PR! Check out our race calendar (link below) and add your 20K race! Joe

Greetings Monnik. Look after yourself, Spicegeek, don't try too much until you know exactly what you are dealing with.Went down to the expo in Toronto today to pick up race kits for son and self, lots of booths with clothes, books, diet supplements etc., and a slim quiet guy sitting with some brochures by himself. Could have walked right by but went over, read his discreet nametag, its Dick Beardsley!!! Chatted for several minutes about his training camp and my running, (as if he's interested in my running!), what a nice guy! Simon.

Hi everyone, did a step tape this morning in my cleaned up exercise room. Haven't done a video in a while and could tell. It was tough. Now I'm going out to try a little light jogging. First run since my 1/2. Wish me luck. Talk to everyone later.Wbertha--come on over, I would love to have someone to work out with in the winter. Sheila

Shiela, thanks for the invite. But you are really, really speedy compared to me. Also, I should probably ask where you live. Doubt that it is in driving distance of Northern Illinois. lolRest day here for me today. Still trying to figure out when/where my next half marathon will be. Am looking at a few in February in a warmer part of the country. Even after only about two weeks, it is very, very clear to me that I need a goal to look forward to and to work towards. Am going to try for 6 tomorrow if the weather cooperates. Will be my longest "post race" run. Good weekend runs and races to all. wbertha

spicegeek-thanks for that link to the race calendar. It worked. Butterflies are kicking in for this weekend. I go to pick up my timing chip and bib tomorrow. I haven't run a bit this week. I was too afraid that it would make my cold worse. I have been downing Airborn. It seems to be working...feeling a bit better. I guess it doesn't matter. Whatever time I post will be a PR. Good Luck to all my fellow racers this weekend!

Question:I’ve been running a little over a year now. I’ve never ran more than about 5 miles at one time. I typically run just over 3 about 3 times a week. I bought a heart monitor last May and have been using it religiously. It’s a Polar F11 and I really like it. My purpose for purchasing was to start Low Heart Rate training. It’s always been my understanding—because I’ve run some on a treadmill—that a mile is approximately 100 calories. However, my heart monitor always shows about twice as much. ?? It also shows the % of fat burned. I guess my question is… Is my heart monitor completely wrong? Or is the Treadmill completely wrong? Or is the treadmill showing fat calories where as my heart monitor is showing both? ------------------ Mark

Hey gang, Sorry I haven't been posting/replying- this week's been a little crazy at work. I'm getting ready to enjoy a nice, cool weekend, though! 11 miles this morning- planned 10.5 but missed the turn I was planning on taking. Quite a bit faster than last week, though I was reminding myself to keep it slow and easy. I think the weather (10 degrees cooler and much less humid) made a huge difference. Tomorrow my plan is to do some faster running on the track- hopefully now that it's cooling down I can get a more accurate approximation of my current capability.

Hey Gang! I finished! Following is my race report...I started at 6:04am, that was before sunrise, it felt nice. Temp was 62F w/91% Humidity. The park I was running at has a 2 mile loop which is lit. I ran that first then ventured into the park area where I could barely see! However I knew it being morning, the sun would soon rise. I had my iPod and was listening to Phedippidations Podcast #118 - Cheers from the World. Afterwards my regular LSD playlist kicked in. I had mapped out the run about a week before so I knew I would be running the route twice around to reach the 13.1 miles. Oh and as I was starting my second time around, I ran into an old running coach. The 2 mile loop had many runners and walkers (as usual), but the park itself, I was the only runner. It was pretty peaceful out. I even saw a couple of deer. The second time around I did see a few bikers and a handful of runners in the park. I ended up having a pretty good run, I actually PR'd! Time was 2:24:40…not what I expected for having run by myself! Hopefully in November I'll be able to beat that. Yikes! That’s just 4 weeks away! LOL Motionbased link... http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4209998 The following link is of the PWWHM results (as people finish and post). I'm "JoeInTX" #320. http://www.worldwidehalf.com/cgi-bin/wwhalf/results Oh and my Finisher's Certificate! Okay time to relax and wait for the rest of our race reports!! Joe

Joe, good job on your half even if you did it solo. Got out this morning with temps in the mid-fifties and cloudy skies. Did my LSD for the week which was only six miles. But I ran the entire distance. I was about 1 minute per mile slower than my half marathon two weeks ago but it felt comfortable. Need to get my Garmin set up right though. For some reason, it was giving me mph instead of average pace (minutes per mile). Must have hit the wrong button or something. Any suggestions? Good runs and races to all. Just an easy 4 miler for me tomorrow. wbertha

Hey Gang,Well I did it. I went out in the cold wet rainy morning and ran the P.W.W.H.M. the same one Joe ran. It was a cold (+6C) rainy, windy day. I flet pretty good up until the last 3 miles. I ran a new route and it had some pretty big hills I forgot about. Oh well managed to do the hills and was doing ok. The last 3 were pretty tough but the worst was the last .5 of a mile. I had to keep talking to my self as it was all into the wind and I had to work twice as hard to keep my pace. My feet held up but boy are they sore now. It hurts to walk on them. I'm sure it's the shoes. I was aiming for a 2:30 but I did it in 2:16:01. I'm pretty happy with the time and the run. I now have a 1/2 marathon P.R. No music, no partner just me and my thoughts and I made it the whole way. My right hip was hurting during the run and I had to stop a few times and stretch it out. Only one bathroom break at 5 miles and I was good to go. So I know I can do better. I did train but hadn't run a long run in like a month and a half due to illness. Good run Joe and way to go. Good luck and run well to all our runners this weekend. Welcome to the group to all the new members. We are growing in leaps and bounds. Corrina

Way to go joe and corrina!! It's impressive that you both set PR's running alone. Likely means even better times ahead with the race excitement factor. A great day today for both of you. Now bask in the glow! Tried to run this morning, and made it all of 1/2 a block. Stabbing pain where the leg meets the hip. So I join Spicegeek in sulking. Looks like "Plan B" is out the window, and now I'm just trying to figure out how to maintain some level of fitness without running. I'm thinking elliptical, weights and yoga. Just shoot me now since I already paid my race fees for a 1/2 on Nov 4 and another in December (trying to save money with the bulk and early registration discounts . Bad idea! ------------------ Progress, not perfection.

Way to go on the "virtual 1/2 marathon" - it's a cool idea, I should have joined you...Went out & did an awesome 10 miles today. Sun was out, temps a little brisk (45 or so @ 7am start) & some friends to keep me motivated. Thinking I might go out tomorrow & run at least some of the course for my 1/2 at the end of the month. It's about an hour from home & I have to do some shopping in the area anyway, so thought I'd check it out. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's RR's - quite a few runners this weekend doing your 1/2's, right? Great runs to all :-)
