Tom, thanks for getting me thinking about plan B...I may just do the gym thing and run on the treadmill. Soon it will be dark around the time I run (I don't want to run in the dark!), and I need to continue my routine, or I will play mind games with myself and bag it altogether! On the weekends I can continue outdoor running, but weekdays I can run on the treadmill either first thing in the am or right after work. Hopefully I'll continue injury free running. It's one of the reasons I go slow! Have a good friday everyone!

ran on the treadmill today, was going to see how far I could run straight through, but then the phone rang, DS answered it & handed me the phone... bummer I know I could run the 30 minutes straight thru...15 walk warmup/ 18 min running at 4.0 / 3minutes walking while talking on the phone at 3.3/ 14 minutes running at 4.0/ 5 minute cooldown.. 55 minutes workout, 3.22 miles.. The running was comfortable at 4.0 - great sign! Linda

I'm sorry to hear you are sick, Shell.I had a great run on Saturday after too many days off. I ran 36 mins, and felt good about it. Now it's cold and rain/snow mix. Hopefully I'll get to run in the next couple of days. Better speed up the gym membership idea! Have a great week!

HOLYCRAP! We are going to Hawaii! We leave on the 27th of this month. I'm so not ready for this, body-image wise. I can't believe it is finally happening, but way excited. We're using our Delta miles, so we don't have to pay for tickets, still not sure where we are staying. Going to Oahu, my first time there. My husband grew up there so he's way excited to take me there. When I went through the miscarriage and did the whole "eat whatever, drink whatever" I gained 4 pounds. It's all in my stomach area. NICE!! I'm going to look so hot! I can guarantee that if I was still pregnant I would look better today than I do NOT pregnant. Oh well, nothing I can do now. We are going on a cruise for our 9th anniversary in March so I'm going to look stunning then. Mark my words.

Hawaii...WOO HOO!!!! Sounds like fun!Tom...sometimes I wonder if my leg is ever going to feel 100% normal again. Usually after my long runs, it lets me know it's there. It doesn't hurt, and I'm not limping, and it's not even in quite the same spot...maybe things are just readjusting.

Hawaii - how cool on Hawaii! I was just there in June & it was really beautiful.Shell - yeah on getting 3.5 miles in, but remember to listen to your body, please. I ran 30 minutes on the Tm on Sunday night & I swear I thought my breathing was fine. I had to mentally focus to make it that long, guess that was a sign... I don't know. Monday morning I woke up with headaches & low peakflows.. grrrrr... so didn't exercise Monday or Tuesday because I just didn't feel right. Today I decided to take to the hills again & see how much of a setback this was, well the good news is I'm not all the way to the beginning, but definitely a setback. I did 1 hour (3 loops plus a little side trip) which was 3.04 miles, I walked for 38 minutes until my feet just wanted to run, then ran for 7 minutes (including up that steep hill) then walked the rest of the way... I didn't want to push it for the rest was a gradual uphill, but at least walked about 19 minute miles up that hill. I am encouraged that I was on my feet for one hour, but.... Linda

Did 2 miles today...Am supposed to do 4 miles Sat. but there's just no way my leg is going to do it w/o getting REALLY upset...so I'm gonna take the rest of the week off and xt and start again Tuesday. My leg is ok, just cranky, and seems to get a little crankier the more miles I do. My gut says to back off. So that's what I'm reluctantly doing!

Smart move Shell! Sometimes we just have to listen to that gut.Today is a much better day for me I did another 1 hour workout - 3.91 miles - 30 minutes running/30 minutes walking on the hills... 18 W/10R/3W/3R/3W/10R/4W/7R/2W check out the times: mile 1 -19:37;mile 2- 13:24;mile 3- 13:27; .91- 14:50 pace... okay gotta admit I pushed it a little on that last 7 minutes running, part up a hill....should have walked some of it... but I was having so much fun & that's a hard hill! I think I'll be alright. I think I've noticed something, most of the times I woke up with low peakflows/headaches - I ran on the treadmill in the evening the night before. I seem to recover easier if I have that few hours after a workout while I'm awake (in case I need to do any special breathing or anything). Did I mention I had fun running today??? Linda

Hi all~ I'm trying to type around a very insistent cat right now, she's behaving like I haven't petted her in a month...LInda: So cool that you're run was great! Congrats-- Shell: plan b's are so important, as you can tell from this thread! First: Hi! Hawaii: I'm soooooo jealous! Wow, I want to hear about black beaches (their sand is black right?) and volcanos and grass skirts--just tell me all the stereotypes are real, okay??? How exciting. Tom: What were those shoes for cushion? How is the training coming along? You are so going to be greased lightening race day, the gun will go off and TomWhite will be just a blur of white. Mr4eyes did the heavy hands run 2 weeks ago but got so tired by the end he cramped his hands! He was carrying 5 per hand and ran 6 miles at about 7min/miles. Moderation isn't one of his fine points... Have a lovely day everyone! Heidi

HEIDI//........they were Reebok Premier Cushion IV's.......really take the pounding off my back..... .........training's going well, gonna do Heavy-Hands on weekends only til Winter hits, and then use 'em full time....I only use the 2 1/2-lb wgts, tried 5-lbs but it hurt my Back (a no-Brainer there) he might drop down on the weight....... .........don't know about being a Blurr, but I really want to see how I'll do after training with 'em before a race.......we'll see... .........once your foot feels better, should have plenty of time to get ready, just don't re-injure,,,,,,,let the INJURY telL YOU when it's time to Run.... .................looking forward to it......------------------ nothing takes the place of persistance....

Heidi - are you doing the race with Tom? that was the plan right? thanks for the nice comment, I'm trying...Went out again today. This time I did a warmup loop (.88 mile) & then ran down the hill in hopes of flatter ground. Turns out is a gradual downhill... which was nice on the way down, but on the way up! yikes!! Am thinking maybe I should go to the track at DS' middle school & check things out on Sunday, since tomorrow is a scheduled rest day. Anyway, loads of fun on the way down the hill!! very hard on the way back.... especially the super steep hill coming back up! even on the gradual uphill, I just didn't have enough air to keep running. interesting though a total of 1 hour again, 3.86 miles only .05 short of yesterday - no feeling of overdoing it either. so I'll take it as an improvement. when I master these hills, watch out! mile 1: 19:10; mile 2: 12:03; mile 3 : 14:21 .86 mile : 16:51pace (including walking up the steep steep hill) 18W/20R/5W/4R/6W/2R/2W/2R/1W Linda [This message has been edited by Rindaroo (edited Oct-13-2006).]

Linda! You are making some real progress! WTG! Yesterday I checked out that trail I've been eyeing recently...it's actually pretty short. I just ran it to see where it went. No time, no pace, just me and the woods...nothing special... Did weights today...It's nice to feel that my hamstrings are now equally as strong as my quads. Used to be the hams were a lot weaker...must be the running. Tuesday I start trying again. 2 weeks till my first 5k race!
