TOM!!!!!! Hey!!! How have you been?? I wanted to say hello and simply pop in to see how everyone was doing....you know, catch up so to speak...well, Fall is really here, we are seeing a little FROST tonight in certian areas up around Chicago. But, I guess it is supposed to be back in the 70's next week,,,,,guess we are just gettin' a sample of what is to come....so, running,,,,yep,,,,still doing it and more than ever....I went on a 1hr run tonight and managed 6.33 miles...that is a far jump from where I used to be but I have listened to all the advice you provided over the years and have been taking things slowly. Most of my runs are still around 4 miles and 40 minutes. Anyway, I wanted to give you a word of thanks,,,since without your long term motivation and the support of the group,,,,I never would be where I am today. From here, I think progress is still moving foward and I can actually see myself running an hour a couple times a week very shortly. Three to four runs a week has been a staple for months now and it seems to fit well into my life without too much effort....although I still run most of my runs in the late night hours....Anyway, THANKS!!!!! Truely, because of the running,,,,I think my life will be much healthier,,,,,and for that my family thanks you too....take care,,,,I'll be around,,,,,and hello everyone else if your still here too.... ------------------ Fhzwart Lovin' life and gettin' fit....

Hey guys, it's been a while. Because of the miscarriage, then my Grandma passing away, I didn't go back to physical therapy. When I came home from CA I saw the bill from the PT and it was $150!! That was WITH the uninsured discount. I don't know if we can do that. I LOVE running, I want to do this for the rest of my life, but I don't see how we can manage that, especially when he told me to come twice a week. How can they rape you like that and sleep at night? It is kind of a blessing that so much crap happened, because I would have gone to at least 3 sessions before I got that first bill, then I would have been way upset. My fault for not asking how much, but I never thought it would be over $75, let alone $150 for one visit. Needless to say I haven't ran. I did try the eliptical and after about 20 minutes my knee hurt, felt like something was rubbing, like cartilage or bone or something. Not way painful, just weird rubbing sensation and sore. I have been lifting weights. I'm really frustrated. Maybe my hubby should go to school to be a PT instead of building houses!!

FHZ/////.........being able to run for AN HOUR...........that is Great........ ..........and while I offer encouragement and suggestions, just remember, YOU did all the work........feel really proud of yourself, you earned it............and staying in shape for the rest of your life ain't bad either..........nice job........ SHELL///////...........nice running...........just watch out for that ''ache'' that can turn itself into a ''pain''........(you knew I was gonna say that)............nice going......... HWI//........wow..........sorry to hear that,,,,,,,so if running isn't in the cards for now, let's check out some Plan-B's,,,,,,possibly walking (with hand weights later on),,,,,,,biking, either outside or x-bike.....and the elliptical has a strange range of motion.......do they have a NordicTrak or does a Stepper make the knee hurt??.....you might want to check out Heavy Hands........it's an endurance exercise series using hand weights with repetative motions, boxing, rowing, skiing,,,,,the original book was best, but the newer one will give you the basics............just try not to get discouraged, there are OTHER ways to stay in shape, ....... MP and HEIDI are both Masters of The Plan-B..........maybe they can offer some ideas...... ........even weight lifting with minimal rests between sets can turn into cardio after the first set........... .........main thing--------do what you can handle, as the muscles strengthen and heal, add more later... .............hang in there..........it gets better (really)......------------------ nothing takes the place of persistance.... Hello all,Linda nice job. Your doing well and being sensible at the same time. I'm glad your enjoying your increased activity. Shell I'll echo what Tom said. Don't let that pain return. Take it a bit easier if necessary. Fhz glad things are going so well. You and Rin are being sensible. I need to learn from that. Hwi, have you been doing the exercises given to yu at PT? How about at least one more session to make sure your not making things worse and to get exercises you can do yourself. Tom, well I did push myself too much. Probable shouldn't have run on Wed. I've had what is more apt to be called a pain in the btt/thigh area. I haven't run since then. If I had woken early enough today, I would have done either the elliptical or bike and may still later. That will be my workouts next week and I will pick-up yoga to try to get in more stretching. I'll let you know how it goes. Patty

FHZ - you're doing some great running!! congrats! I echo you on Tom too... well I'm in recovery mode right now, but I'll be back.HWI - I was going to post the EXACT same thing Patty did. If you can get exercises from PT, you can do them at home. Last time I went to PT (thank god insurance paid), they just kept dragging it on forever.. I finally stopped it because I had the exercises & I could do what they did at home. IP - hope that pain goes away soon!! hey I'm only sensible because I have no choice... get sick or be sensible... & sometimes I still mess up.. hang in there. Yes I went out again today... I did 2.22 miles (not by doing 3 laps but increased by a little extension on a side road), here are the times : mile 1 23:17 (walked slow for warmup); mile 2 (run/walk with some warmup walk in there) 15:54; .22 - (run/walk) 14:33 ... it was very warm, I didn't go until 1:00, I ran 9.25 minutes out of 42:27 total. I did the same thing as yesterday, walk until I felt I could run, stop when a hill was getting to steep for the breathing, walk til I felt I could run again & repeat.... I noticed I ran a little farther up the hills & when I had to walk up the hills, I was walking faster YAY! but it didn't start running til 1.12 miles this time, ran a bunch of errands this morning & got out of breath doing that... so the starting point wasn't too good. Oh also! I got my Oregon Drivers License today! I like the picture!!! I'm 20 pounds less than the last time I had a DL pic taken & its soooo much nicer to look at than the old one. Linda

RIN/////.......YAY.........this is progress, I know not as fast as you'd want, but still counts..........just keep throwing in the run/walks and I think you'll improve quickly........... ............keep plugging.........I know it gets frustrating........but you're doing great......... ..................ok guys.............gonna try to head to Ky (again) and see the folks.........hopefully dry weather........start off easy, don't force it........ ..............and enjoy being there....... ...................................Beats Working///////------------------ nothing takes the place of persistance....

Shell - make sure to not push it too hard... sometimes its such a fine line.Today I got on the treadmill since I had no one to watch the 5 yo... 45 minutes, much better than the last time on the tready, I did 2.44 miles 15 min warmup. run 15 minutes between 3.6-4.0, walk 5 minutes at 3.3, run 5 minutes between 3.6-3.8 & 5 min. cooldown. so 20 minutes running of 45 minutes total.. I didn't push it, just started 3.6 running & increased for awhile & then reduced when the body told me too. looks like walking & a tiny bit of running on those hills is really helping yesterday I did yoga. FHZ - hmmm I'm up to 5 days workout, whether its walking or run/walking mostly due to trying to lose some of the excess 10 pounds I gained this last year. but I promise I am listening to the body now.. learned my lesson early last week. Hello all,The bttm hasn't stopped bothering me. I'm going to start walking on the days I would run and do weights and elliptical or bike on the other days. Looks like I'll be out of the running game for a little while. Rin you're doing great. 10lbs wow I am so jealous. Shell nice job on the run, but the other pain may be caused by compensation due to not wanting to reinjure the other pain. Slow down & concentrate on form to see if that could be the cause the next time you run. (Like 2 days after long run.) fhz enjoy your rest days. How long is your long run now? Tom enjoy the time with the folks. Patty

Hi all. I said I might try to post here...so I thought I'd give it a whirl! I've been doing my 30 minutes 3X a week for the most part. Saturday, I cut it a bit short because my son was running with me and wanted to stop and see his friends football game. Today, I was 5 minutes short because I ran during my son's guitar lesson (usually I just sit in the waiting area and read a magazine, but there is a nice park across the street, so I thought I would try something new. It was very hilly!) Shell...you'll love doing a 5K. I did my first one after running for 6 weeks. I was very slow, but I finished. My daughter did the same race with me, and took second in her age group! She finished in about 1/2 my time! Oh well!Have a great week, I'll try to check in again some other time!

IP///////..........that makes sense,,,,,,,,you should be able to switch back over to running after a few sessions.......that BTTM just needs some time to heal up,,,,,,,cross-train in the mean time......good thinking....... SHELL////.........naw, it you train smart, and back off if it seems to be flaring up this should be do-able,,,,,,,just don't play the ''Pretend This Is the Race'' game right now while training........go easy, and train up to racing speed later.......you'll get there........ FIRST//........very good thinking, working in the runs is part of the Runner Mentality.........the 3-times a week as a training base will keep you in great shape, and if you want more, you'll have something to build from........now, start thinking of a Plan-B to fall back on in case of foul weather or injury.......sounds like you're doing great........ ...............ok guys...........a BTTM Back-Up Plan in place, a race to get ready for, and a good base schedule in the works.......watch for set-backs, and know what you're gonna do if you get 'em (good thinking IP)........ ...........mainly........enjoy the work-outs...... ............................if not, CHANGE SOMETHING......------------------ nothing takes the place of persistance....

better run outside today.. I did 2.59 miles in 42:25 minutes. 15 minutes walk warmup (much better that 25 ) 2 R, 2W, 2R, 2W, 6R, 2W, 3R, 2W, 1 1/3 R, walked the rest.. During the 6 minutes run, I ran up the steepest hill, yay! had to walk after I got there, but I did it! yes the 1 1/3 R was on a hill, I really wanted to do at least 2 minutes for the last bit, but felt like it wasn't a good idea, so I stopped when the body told me to. So that's a total of 14 1/3 minutes running, about 28 walking. Definitely getting better. Looking forward to the day I can run that whole loop, hills & all. Today I really felt like its possible, one of these days at least. oh yeah, the times - I'm much happier with them, mile 1 19:15; mile 2 13:25; .59 16:25 pace Linda

Thanks guys. This really seems to be working, guess I'm finally to the "by leaps & bounds" place in my recovery This morning I went out again, I made it 3 miles in 48:05 minutes. here's the workout 15 minute walk/ 3R/2W/3R/2W/11R/3w/2R/2W/2R rest walk.. so thats 21 minutes running, 27 walking. I was really surprised on the 11 minutes, I was able to run up that steep hill again (on tiptoes) & continue to run today, very slowly but I didn't have to walk...wow that surprised me. The times today are: mile 1 -19:09, mile 2 -13:55, mile 3 -15:00. Its only gonna get better Do I dare say it? If I keep this up, I might be able to do that 5K in November after all... that would be gravy, since I'd already decided I wouldn't be ready. Shell - you should be fine, but just remember to not push it toward this goal if you start getting some pain again. Linda

Went out for a run/walk again today on the hills.. I did 3.54 miles in 53:17 today. This included 3 loops plus a couple side trips this time. I did 15W warmup/12R/4W/2R/2W/7R/2w/2R/3W/2R/rest walking.. boy that's a lot to remember times: mile 1- 17:50; mile 2- 13:42; mile 3- 13:18; .54 - 15:46 pace... continue to improve ... slowly but surely. I actually got into a stride on the 7 minutes run - that's the first time I've been able to say that. Shell - good job on going slower. it works for me, don't worry you'll speed up naturally. Linda
