I walked outside today, hills & all... At about 25 minutes, I felt like I could run so I did. I ran for 3 minutes, wasn't feeling like I should continue so didn't. Walked the rest of my 40 minutes. I used my Garmin & it said mile 1 at 20.19; mile 2 at 17.39; .13 mile at 20.12 pace... 2.13 miles total

This felt better than the treadmill did, just didn't force it to the point my diaphragm area hurt, so am thinking I should continue this & let me body tell me what to do - in the neighborhood instead of treadmill.

Tom, It would have been funnier had you been in my head as I was trying to coordinate my run with other things and thinking "as long as I get it in before midnight it counts"

Hello all,
Tuesday I came down with a cold. It's just about all gone by now. I haven't run since Tuesday am. I'll run 4 miles tomorrow. My butt hasn't hurt at all so I'm thinking it wasn't anything serious. I'll see tomorrow.

First welcome this is a good thread for general running lore. Tom is full of it.

MP have you worn the stairs out yet? I know the bike took a beating. Enjoy having the kids around.

Rin sounds like your doing great. It seems as if the move was good for the lungs.

Shell good job on the slow progression. Just enjoy doing what you can.

Tom the whole state closed? Yet I heard nothing about it.

Patty

Shell - good job on 5 miles! but make sure you don't push it. how ironic that I say that

Hi Patty - yes I think the move was good for the lungs but still have some recovering to do, plus getting used to these darn hills..

Today I went for another walk around the neighborhood, but I had some trouble... 1) it took a REALLY long time to warm up the bronchials - maybe 40s is a little chilly for them? 2) I went about .5 too far.. I walked 2.64 miles in 55 minutes. It took about 1 1/2 miles for the bronchials to warm up. I thought about running for a minute, but I was walking uphill so changed my mind. Once I got to the downhill, it was only walking mode again. I still felt fine, but then came the uphill 1/2 mile home and it was just too much... I ended up walking very, very slowly just to get home... had some trouble getting any air at all, it was as if the air was just gone... here are the times, it tells the story... mile 1 19:29, mile 2- 19:40 .64- 24:28 pace... My route is a 1 mile loop, 1/2 mile downhill, 1/2 mile uphill... I did 3 loops, but actually didn't started recording it part way into the first loop, so I actually walked about 3 miles. so what possessed me to do 3 miles? it was the lack of warming up due to the cooler weather... I just felt like I could do more...

It was a learning experience, I need to learn how to handle these hills. So, I'm okay with this. Yes it will get better as I keep plugging. Next time will have to 1) only do 2 loops & 2) go a little later when its a little warmer. The question is : what about in the winter when its colder? do I have to stay indoors & treadmill? hopefully I'm fully recovered by then & things will be different, I can hope anyway...

Shell - I was suppose to do a 5K in November too, but I'm not sure either.. my plan is to just keep plugging & if I'm well enough, I'll do it... If not, there is always another race. I think this strategy would work well for you too. Besides I think making your first 5K a healthy one would be MUCH more satisying. Mine wasn't & I do wish I had waited.

Hello all,
Well I ran today outside. I'm not sure about the actual mileage. I ran for about an hour. I threw in some faster intervals going around blocks in my neighborhood I thought weren't very hilly. Wrong. It seems there is no such thing.

Well the butt muscle did bother me. Not a lot, but enough to know it's there. I'm not sure what I'll do. I had wanted to add 2 additional days of running. I was going to run 2 miles tomorrow, then do weights. I'll see how I feel and ice it up tonight.

Linda that happens to me in the colder weather. There's not much I can do about it as I don't like anything covering my mouth. It probably will take you longer to warmup in the winter. You may need to anticipate an additional 10 minutes or so of warmup. Running or walking later probably will help.

Shell I know you're having fun as supergirl and all. Just don't get carried away. Stay at this amount for a week then gradually add. It's when we're increasing our mileage that we're at our most vulnerable.

Tom I do know how Indiana is. My BIL is from there and he's crazy. Let's hope KY is open this weekend.

Have a good day all.
Patty

Tom, yes I do run hills when I run outside. I live in a hilly area. The ache started during the HM, which wasn't particularly hilly. It's not getting any worse. I did 2 miles today and it wasn't bothering me except slightly once or twice. I did ice it a little last night. After the 2 miles I did a weight-lite session and 10 min. on the elliptical. I'm trying to remind myself not to cross my legs as that could exasperate it.
Have a good day all.
Patty

Good job IP...

Had to reign myself in today. Really had the urge to go run and thought "No, remember what tom said, your injury could go either way" So I did Yoga...(Speed Yoga as I wasn't really in a peaceful, take your time, frame of mind.)

IP - hope that ache goes away soon.

Shell - good job on restraining yourself & the run too!!

I went out for a walk in the neighborhood today & I took the scarf. It seemed to help some, so maybe continue that when its cold... I only used it in the beginning when it felt like I was breathing in cold air on cold bronchials. The walk was much slower today, think I'm still recovering some from 2 days ago, mile 1- 22:12; mile 2- 23:04 by the end of mile 2 I felt good & would have liked to go for more, but restrained my self & stopped. I didn't want a repeat of Monday. so still plugging, it WILL get better!

Wow I'm excited today!! I felt much better when I went out for my 2 mile walk - which I actually ran some!! I walked a mile, & felt really good... so I thought I'd try to run, ran 2 minutes (felt great) - then comes a steep hill, so started walking when my body told me it was time, walked about 1 1/2 minutes (to the top of the hill), then ran 2 minutes - til part way up a gradual uphill & body said to walk again, ran 1 minute, walk again, & at the top of the uphill ran another 2 minutes... so that's 7 minutes running out of 36 minutes total - 2.03 miles

times are much more encouraging

mile 1 (walking) 20:28
mile 2 (run/walk) 15:18
.03 (run) 12:17 pace

LOL I feel like supergirl today! I really wanted to go another mile, but restrained today.... as I get better there will be plenty running

SHELL/////..........excellent job of Stiffling........some times you just have to pull back a notch.........and sometimes THAT'S harder than running...........good thinking.......
IP//...........good news about the BTTM,,,,,,,,do you stretch out after you finish??..........might want to try that........
..........you're getting in some good runs, and some consistently tough work-outs...........remember to throw in that ''easy'' about every 3rd.........nice running.......

............ok guys............looking pretty promising, consistent schedules, a few interuptions but nothing major........all in all, everybody's hanging in there.........

linda...that is awesome!

Did 2.5 today...didn't feel as exillerating as Tuesday's run, but still did it. Kept about a 12mm pace...felt a little sick to the stomach at the end...too hot, or too soon after eating. Leg was a LITTLE irritated with me when I was done, but quickly settled back down...I'm good now. So yeah me!
