OK, so I’m going to admit I’ve been inpatient & need an attitude adjustment.. 10 minutes into my warmup this morning, I received an important phone call & needed to deal with it. Unfortunately, started walking around the property WAY too fast & felt it in my lower chest again. That 10 minutes warmup felt so great, I know I could’ve run some at 4.0 comfortably. (similar to yesterday). However, that’s not what happened. When I came back, I started over. This time feeling it in my lower chest….. warmed up 15 minutes & did a run/walk: 5R, 3W, 5R, 3W, 5R, 3W, 5R, 1W the runs were at 3.8, walks 3.3 – then 5 minutes cooldown. It was hard, on each 5 minute interval, the first 2 minutes felt great! But then, I think my breaths are stacking again. By the end, I was tired, but a good tired. I really should’ve gone back to “just do what you can do”. But, somehow the “just do it” was playing in my head. So after all, you were right Tom – I’m going to get sick if this attitude continues.I’m actually getting better & into the dangerous time. I’m naturally walking faster & that makes me worse. I really need to concentrate on walking slower. I want to run & I feel that I’m on the verge of it, so my old attitude is creeping in… very dangerous. Hey at least I realized it this time before getting sick, thick skull & all.. Ok next time will definitely change something.

Linda, I second the "Behave yourself" It's not worth it...Shell, I haven't had time to peruse that site, but I'm looking forward to it. Hawaii: congrats on the run, sorry about your grandpa, that's rough on top of everything else. ((((hugs))) Tom: April 1, 5k for Covenant Hospital in Knoxville, I'll bring in my 42 year by 5k-ing it, how's that? There's a half, but I don't like the long distances, my body just never got past 6 miles... Anyone else want to make the trip? There's a great vegetarian restaurant called "Tomato Head" nearby. Heidi

Thanks guys, yeah you're right.. I knew that I was a bad, bad girl the second I stopped...just didn't feel right. Started to have an asthma attack a couple of hours later, but the Foradil did its job & a bunch of deep, deep breaths & I was able to get through it... so much better than when they took me down for the count. Bronchials have not shut down, so that's good. So onward I go, the one who always has to learn the hard way... Heidi - sounds like fun I still haven't been back that way for years. I think my Mom is planning a trip soon to see our new house & the kids... so doesn't look good for an eastern NC trip or TN either anytime soon. Linda

HEIDI////........sounds good, let's see what's going on closer to time......... RIN////..........actually it might be an ALTITUDE adjustment, how high up are you?? ............and the warm-up sounds good.......wanna keep that in your program.......just mess around with it, and watch your Air Quality on the Weather Channel........this may be a factor.....main thing, just keep on pluggin'.........------------------ nothing takes the place of persistance....

Air quality is great, has been gorgeous since it rained last Friday, sprinkled a little bit today. Elevation in town in 2000 & I live on a foothill above town. In Socal, I was at sealevel. Would that make a difference? This morning I woke up with massive headache, turns out peakflows were low... took some more Foradil... 45 minutes later & back to normal. I haven't had that happen in a long time. It must be after affects from yesterdays mistake. My bronchials don't feel like they've shut down though... maybe the amount of exercise I've had in the last couple of weeks made the difference. Today is definitely a rest day... tomorrow I will try again, but more cautiously.

Hello all, I haven't checked-in in awhile, so here goes. Thurs. I should have run 4 miles outside, but it was raining fairly hard & I put it off. Friday raining again and same result. Sat. day before the 1/2 mary & I get out & do about 1.5 miles. I just needed to run outside before the race. It makes a difference, of course, it should have happened the day before. Sunday I did finish the race, which is the best that can be said. I was all set to do between 2:45 & 3 hours. Unfortunately I lost steam by mile 9. I'm lucky I finished. It was 3:10. Well next 1/2 mary will be faster. I may have pulled a butt muscle. It was sore at the end of the race, but hasn't been too bad. I ran 4 miles this morning with rather dead legs. Yet I still did about 13 min. miles. Thats pretty good for me. The butt was a bit sore, but so were my calfs. I'll see how I feel Thurs. before deciding if I'll run. Right now the butt doesn't hurt.Patty

Now for individual replies. Linda everytime I run the first mile is difficult. I takes at least that for my breathing to get into a rhythme. I've read & think that this is what's happening, that with exercise induced asthma you will probably have an attack within the first few minutes. If I can keep running through, I don't get another attack. They say it isn't likely within 45 minutes of the first. That maybe what's happening with you. Your determination is incredible. Hwii I'm glad your feeling better physically. Take it one day at a time. The exercising will help to deal with the stress of everything else. I hope your grandfather heals quickly. Shell see if there are any trails that are highly frequented. That may help ease the hubbys fears. In the meantime. Go with a softer surface & stick with it. Shin splints don't take kindly to too much variety while healing. Heidi your back and movie-like happenings are not far behind. I like the idea of the 5k and may consider it. I'll see on the probability closer to the date. Have a good day all. Patty

Patty - in my dreams, I'd be at that point right now. Lol Yes I know exactly what you're talking about & that's how I am when I am healthy enough to run 3 or more miles. The pulmonologist was never able to get me on complete maintenance as an exercise induced asthma patient. Because, my bronchials kept shutting down. When they do that, I have to bring them back to health very, very slowly or else it gets worse. So, Monday what happened was I tried to push them & they weren't ready. My peakflows were low all day yesterday & a little lower than normal this morning (but better). Great run!! You are my hero, maybe someday I'll be able to run like you.Shell - so you didn't like the elliptical very much? I did rest yesterday. Today when I got on the treadmill, I could feel it in the diaphragm again... so I told myself "just do what you can do" - do not run if you are still feeling it there... so it got a lot better, but never to the point where I should run, so I didn't. I walked 40 minutes, 1.94 miles, highest 3.2 I really think that if I had started without that diaphragm pain, I would've been able to run... now to concentrate on walking slower around the house!! Thanks for the explanation! Perhaps I will join. I haven't found a thread that I can contribute to regularly because I usually can only get on this site late at night...most other threads are pretty much done by then, so maybe this would be the right one for me!I'm new at running...and I'm now up to 30 mins 3X a week. I'm still slow...about 12 min. mile. But I really like all the support in this forum. My family is supportive, but sometimes you need more than that!

Morning All...MP...I have a friend who enjoys the stairs as much as you, so you're not alone. I can't say I enjoy them that much. But they are a work out. Speaking of working out...leg is feeling pretty good right now...think I'll go run at lunch on the TM and see how things are progessing.

I just did 2.71 at the y on the TM. Gradually increasing my speed in 5 minute intervals up to 6 and then at 25 minutes backing down. It felt pretty good. Played with my form some and noticed when I move my legs more like a bicylce fashion, the shins don't hurt as bad and I stay under my hips more. When I got off the TM I remembered I had taken some advil for this headache I've had that won't go away, so I hope my pain wasn't being masked and that I don't pay for this severely later on. I'm icing with a brisket right now.

Nice run Shell! Hoping the shins are fineI walked 40 minutes on the treadmill again today. Legs didn't feel springy until 35 minutes, so I was a good girl & just did my cooldown instead of trying to run. still plugging along. Hey MP - nice to hear from you! Sounds like you're getting some different types of workouts in. How's the knee? Linda
