Kimble - hmmm on the pilates, I tried a Pilates DVD once, but had problems... it was my shoulders.. very weak upper back muscles & the pilates just wacked me out of alignment... I guess it all comes down to getting those upper back muscles stronger first.

Tom - so I didn't see your post before I went to run today... honestly I thought if I can't run, so I walk.. no big deal. I drove to town & went on the bike path which is relatively flat. I walked for 15 minutes, was breathing better & thought I'd try running (very similar to last Sunday). I ran for 2 miles. Avg pace 11:31, I felt good like last Sunday for that distance, decided not to push it. Actually was very happy I could do it at all. So... a realization came to me this afternoon, I need to slow down so I can make it farther, no wonder, I am at the point where I used to make the move (after being sick) from the TM to outside.. I really shouldn't be expecting any good times, they really should be 12-13 min/miles & I should be working on endurance... so next run outside, I'm back to forcing myself to go slow. Figured I wouldn't even try to run til at least Wed to see if today's run caused any problems. btw - no coughing while running today, guess I just need that 15 min. warmup (opposed to 10 yesterday) or maybe its outside vs TM ?

Hello all,
Quick post today. Ran a little over 3 miles on Sat. Felt good to get that done. It was slow going though. Today no workout. Tomorrow I will run speedwork outside again. Have a good day all.

Patty

hi everyone,

tw, thanks for the tip. I can't remember the flying monkey song...just ToTo's escape Mendelssohn snippet. I'll look it up. -)
having a fairly fragile head anyway.

Hi Kimble!

tw & Linda, I do a pilates tape -- (actually Linda, I'd thought about it for you after you mentioned your shoulder/back things, before I read your post here today.) I tested all they had at the library first, all are so different. I have upper body alignment problems as well as lower, both long term & serious. K, you probably wouldn't count this as Pilates, but I do Lynn Robinson's "weekly workout". It has 3 35-40 min. routines. It really helps both problems. Recently I tried several newer ones, & for the most part they hurt me. FWIW. (I get impatient with parts of it, so you work around those parts, but it is a decent workout if done right)(she constantly pays attention to alignment)

glad to hear you ran Patty. hope things are getting better for you. (Kimble, Patty was the brilliant cross training advisor)

tw, thanks. I'll keep messing w/ it. the day i skipped the walk, i had a sharp pain in my upper left thigh adductors, then the next day my right hip flexor wouldn't. still made 5.64 miles (including w/u walk) Saturday, first time on a path away from here... ever so cool! river & birds nice things. & the fastest yet for me, at that distance.
i took yesterday & today off. (volunteered at a race yesterday. froze for 3 hours. way way too much extroversion for me too. don't know if I'll ever be able to race! people watch you! there should be a law. but i digress once again. felt sick most of yesterday.
I realized that in the past 3 wks. after I moved from tm to outside + hills, I also increased my mileage quite a bit, my speed even more, & my hr (since saying goodbye to MAF) is up more than 25 bpm. seems the 10% guideline isn't meant to be in each area at once. So, my question... is there a guideline for once you've pushed a little too much & cut back a day or 2... should I try to repeat my last week (my first 15+ mile week) & maintain there for a while, or cut back to what it should have been.. not sure how to calculate that, but I wondered, in principle. Or just play with it?

high five to PIckles for the doggie ball solution.

glad to hear (a few days ago) that you were feeling better tw. & even thinking about racing again. you said you didn't do well last time but my memory thinks that when the results were in you'd done much better than you'd thought. can't find the post without much more time than I have. but am making a stab at accurate reporting, even if a bit fuzzy.

hi Shell .

I did, believe me, I did...I'm beginning to think that maybe I'm getting sick. Now that finals are done and I've had a second to relax I think I'm under attack

Hello all,
Shell you're right in the hardest part of your training. This is when you feel stretched too thin and not up to it. Do something to relax or treat yourself to something nice. Getting your spirit up will help.

Well I ran this morning, not sure how far, but approximately 3 miles. The middle part was a couple of medium hills. Sunday is the Breast Cancer 5k run and I think I'll be okay. One more outside run and then a complete rest on Saturday. There will be no PR as there are so many people it takes a while to cross the starting line and there are no chips if I recall correctly. I just want to run the whole thing without any injuries.

Have a good day all.
Patty
