Was going to run today but my leg is a little tired...so I'm gonna wait. Steve Irwin...man that is so sad. I just about cried when I heard that. He was such a neat guy and such a good guy! No one ever spoke ill of him. Brought many smiles to me and my families faces. I will miss him! (((((((((((((((((((((STEVE IRWIN RIP))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hello all, Tom, bad news, from around noon yesterday I noticed a pain in the back of my leg, where I bend my knee. It's not bad, but I'm nervous. I don't recall anything happening on my run, but obviously something did. I'm resting today. I'll do an easy run tomorrow if there's no pain when I wake up. Steve Irwin's love of nature was obvious and contagious, but he was also a bit reckless. His death is a shame, I know he has young children who now will not have their father. Have a good day all. Patty

1.96 miles walking on the treadmill in 40 minutes. My mind told me I could run, but the legs weren't having that itching to run feeling. Think I'll wait for that. IP - take it easy, rest the leg & hopefully it'll go away. DS started school yesterday & loved it! DD doesn't start til Monday, we meet her teacher today & have open house for DS tonight... still lots of boxes to unpack... maybe I'll wait til next week when both kids are in school Linda

Morning all,Rin I'm glad DS loves the new school. That makes all the difference with a move. With the move and unpacking you're probably very busy, don't try to do too much. Enjoy the new place. Tom your slow is probably still faster than my fast. Don't worry I still haven't registered for the race. I'm waiting for today's run to see how my leg is. I overslept this morning so I'm going to run after work. I think with this post I'll be back to being a cool runner. ( I had forgotten my password and changed email address without changing it here.) Have a good day all. Patty Edited because I obvious need help with spelling. [This message has been edited by Irish Patty (edited Sep-08-2006).]

1.95 miles walking / 40 minutes on the treadmill this morning. I tried to run & only made it 1 minute.. chest hurt some, diaphragm area hurt too..big signs that the bronchials aren't ready yet, so I went back to walking.Linda

Still no working out for me. Also, no PT this week. VERY disappointed, but what can I do? I feel better physically, mentally though I'm still sad and depressed. I told myself that I could eat/drink whatever I wanted while I was waiting to recover but I got feeling pretty crappy. One night we had Outback (YUM!) and we got the Chocolate Chocolate Tower and it was great. But those kinds of things over several days, plus quite a bit of Diet Coke have left me feeling like sh ite and I'm already done with that thinking. My Grandma passed away Wednesday night. Not something that was unexpected, she was 104 years old! She has said for years that she "wants to go home". It is hard to hear things like that. Anyway, I had to go shop for a new funeral dress (my clothes for those kinds of things are way too big) and the skirt that I bought was a size 6. Made me feel really good because I was afraid it would be huge after this binging and DC bloating. Nope, still hung on to the size 6. Man what a good feeling. Leaving tomorrow morning at 7 am to drive to CA and attend the funeral. Back home Wednesday and maybe then I can run again.

Looks like I need to learn how to do this all over again...work the site and get running ....AGAIN. Missed you all and your mentoring....It's so hard to go out and huff and puff around the track. I posted this to you ..."Where's Tom White?" but obviously in the wrong place. W/ find my may around again soon. Thanks for STILL being here. >>>>>Now I remember why I had to come back to get started....AGAIN. You remind me of what's it like to run effortlessly up a hill or over an overpass... I miss that 'second wind' when you go from burning carbs to fat and then its smooth sailing. I'm writing to say...tomorrow, I'm getting up and running and watching it get light. ...........myself, I'm always looking for that Second Wind that takes you out of Time and Space on the runs............just You and the Road....... ...........................(of course, getting great Labs on my Physicals doesn't hurt either)......

Boy Hawaii, you have it all at once. 104 is amazing! What a great life she must've had.Did 40 minutes walking on the treadmill this morning. Had some headaches over the weekend & maybe a little congestion, trying to rest & make sure I don't get sick again. The little one is in Kindergarten, rode the bus with her big brother (but he goes to a different school) & then I followed in the car to make sure she got there...lol she did great!! Linda

Morning All...ran for 20 minutes on the treadmill yesterday. VERY SLOW (like 14mm) but it felt good. I have noticed that I think I'm turning my injured leg out when I run and that might be causing the stiffness in my leg when I run...any suggestions???

Morning all, Karen welcome back to running & this thread. Good reason on why to run. Good luck getting back to it.Rin too funny about following the bus. I remember that feeling of worry. Way2go good attitude & 3 days a week is good to start out with & even continue with. Shell for now when you run go slow & concentrate on a smooth, even stride. Make sure to think about how you want that leg to move. It may take some time but it will get used to the new stride. Today was 4 miles with 4 x 400 intervals. My warmup was at a 12:30 min mile pace. My fast intervals were at a 10 min mile pace and my cool down was at 13:30 min mile pace. I have taken over a minute off of each of those miles since I started my HM training in the summer. Now if I can only keep that up. Have a good day all. Patty

Tom after that day I didn't have any more pain. I've been trying to cut back a bit. Last week I didn't do any crosstraining so as not to aggravate it. It seems to have paid off. Thanks for asking. Patty

Morning all..Shell - good advice from the others Way2go - 3x a week sounds like a good place to start. I try to do every other day, easier on the body parts. Tom - the air cleared up late last week, but the last couple of days it seems all hazy again. There hasn't been any rain for awhile. I'm sure when that starts it'll clear right up. Rest day for today, my feet felt sore last night, so thought I'd rest them today.. maybe some yoga later. IP - lol, today I felt better about sending the little one on the bus. Although, I did wait at the bus stop with them... she's trying to figure out why I'm doing that too... Linda

Yes very ironic! Did treadmill 1.73 miles walking, only up to 2.8 today. Lots of bronchiospasms & had to breathe in really deep to do 2.8.... maybe part of it is that i need to do this consistently for a few days & it will get better. I'm starting to get very frustrated!Linda
