tom...my next race is march 10th the bayou city classic 10k! It's a really fun race for spectators.

So far things are doing well. Let gets tired, but if I stretch it out, it's good. My legs, feet, and back were very tired when I got done, but overall good.

Woohoo Shell! you are doing, great. all these races, you're living my dreams glad you're legs are doing ok..

Tom - when I picked up my Asmanex the other day at the neighborhood pharmacy. They said the pharmacist wanted to talk to me, was not allowed to say no to the consult... she asked if I was REALLY taking this much asmanex, as was on the prescription... I told her it kept being increased so I could breathe, the cold was killing me..should have seen the look in her eyes, like I was on my deathbed or something... well, I'm feeling better since I started the running... it really must be related.

Rest day today...will go for the running some more tomorrow.

Hello all,

Tom I was running slow on Thursday's run, but decided to run even slower on Sat's run. I did 4.5 miles in 1:03. I didn't experience the type of pain later on as I had on Thursday. That said I did 1/2 mile (36 laps) in the pool following my run. I had a rest day on Sun. and noticed my breathing was fairly shallow. I'm still feeling that today. I hope to swim a bit tonight, but I'll wait and see.

Linda yes the btt muscle has been a problem since September following my half marathon. Your doing good. I hope you continue to improve.

Shell way to go. You're really getting into doing races aren't you.

Have a good day all.

Hello all,
I didn't end up swimming last night. I just didn't have the time to fit it in. Ran this am 3.2 miles and .4 walking. The middle mile I did 5 .10 intervals with a couple of speedy ones in there. The breathing was very labored and only improved during my cool down mile. No problems with the btt muscle.

Shell tempo runs are done faster than a regular run but not at your fastest.

Linda how are since that significant run?

Tom still getting your runs in?

Hey all!

Patty - I'm doing well after the run! It seems to help the breathing, however when I'm outside in the cold for too long, it makes me worse... & that isn't even exercising!! But as long as I really warmup before running, I've been fine to go for the run. Sorry to hear you're having issues with your breathing, take is easy, ok?

Shell - what did you mean by tempo pace? I am confused..

So I got on that tready again today, Did 3.05 miles today in 1 hour, 20 min w/up, 20 min run/4 min walk/7 min run/4 min walk, 5 min cooldown.

No sidestitches today! woohoo!! However, bronchials were getting a little tired about 20 min so thought I wouldn't push them, on the 7 min run - bronchials were fine, but my right leg was hurting, calf, & ankle area felt like it was twisting... turns out I have a blister on the bottom of my foot were it hits the orthotic, maybe I was twisting my foot.. anyway, I've been struggling with tight calves again, any good ideas on exercises for them?

Linda

Hey all...back from a very hot, bust out the sheer willpower 3.5!

IP...good job! I know tempo is faster than regular run, but I was on the lower range of my tempo almost to my "steady" pace...I wanted the higher end of the tempo, but can't always get what you want.

Linda...you're amazing! Tempo...trying to think of how to explain it...a little faster than your avg pace, but not a speed all out pace.

Tom...I can't believe the things I"m doing! I'm so tired

Hello again,
Yesterday was a crosstraining day. Did the weights and 25 min. on the crosstrainer. I intended to go back to the gym after work and do a pilates mat class and 30 min. on the bike. That didn't happen. I decided to just go home and rest a bit. Today was my first outdoor run in a while. I did a mile warmup and then 2 hill repeats. I intended to do another mile cooldown, but all I could manage was about 1/2 mile. I walked for about 10 min. All in all it was a pretty good 1st outdoor run in a while. Tonight is a swim and maybe yoga.

Linda, Tom gets it right all the time. A running injury who would have thunk? Seriously your doing great.

Shell nice powering through the 3.5 mile run. Running fast and strong is a reward in itself.

Good day all.
Patty

Patty - how was the breathing??

Ok so the blister was my fault, its been so long since I really ran that #1 I've forgotten how to breath while running & #2 forgot how the orthotics go in my shoes!! lol I usually put the insole over the orthotics, but didn't do that - it rubbed & caused the blister... one day rest, a bandaid & insole over the orthotics & all is good calves are a little tight, but didn't hurt while running today...

Still having trouble with sidestitches - its completely related to how I'm breathing while running... I do belly breathe & it gets better, but doesn't completely go away.. sometimes I'm running breathing well & a few minutes later..I'm not. I guess it will come with time, just like in the beginning.

Just off the treadmill, 15 minutes warmup, 25 minutes run at 3.6/ 5 min walk/ 10 min run at 3.6, 5 min cooldown - 1 hour & 3.27 miles. Sidestitch started about 12 minutes into the first 25 minutes... not bad enough to stop, but didn't go away either. stopped at 25 because bronchials were getting tired, almost stopped at 5, breathing really difficult first 4 minutes..but by 5 was breathing well, so went another 5.

I'm guessing I should just continue this way, it will get better as I plug along.. thought about going back to the running program, say 10 minutes point... but not sure since its been difficult to get started the first 3 minutes or so.

oh also did 100 crunches on the ablounger & 100 upper back exercises.... nice workout...

Linda the breathing is a little better, but still tougher than normal. I know what you mean about paying attention to your breathing. I have that same thing happen to me, especially at the beginning of my runs. Oh it's nice to see your relearning all your running techniques.

Hello all,
I swam 52 laps last night. Not quite a mile, but I'll get there tomorrow. This morning I did weights and 26 min. on the x-trainer and 26 min. on the bike. After I showered & changed I went and got myself weighed. Down 2 lbs. Woohoo. If I lose 2 more pounds dh has to lose 10 lbs. Tonight I'm going to rest and watch ghost whisperer.

Have a good weekend all.

Tom - we haven't heard from you in a few days..is everything ok?

Patty - woohoo on the 2 pounds!! How is that swimming on the breathing??

Today it got warm probably high50's, maybe 60, so I decided to go do my run/walk outside! Very enjoyable, of course faster too... I didn't get any sidestitches out there at all & I walked when the hills were to steep for me.

3.51 miles in 56:31 - 1 mile warmup walking 21:04l run walk 7R/4W/5R/3W/2R/2W/4 1/2 R/4W/2R/2W Mile 2 was 13:35; Mile 3 was 13:38; last .51 16:10 pace... fastest recorded 10:01 - no wonder I felt good running average (including warmup) 16:07

ahhh it felt wonderful

Another run in the neighborhood today, I did 3.83 miles in an hour, think I might have pushed a little too much on a couple hills, wanted to get to the top. But I feel alright, so good thing its a rest day tomorrow. I think this 2 days on, one day off is a really good thing.

Here it is: 1 mile warmup walking, 20:53 mile 2 12:38 mile 3 13:25 last .83 15:49 pace ... total avg 15:41 & fastest pt: 8:19 oh boy in mile 2 & 3 I really got running good & in a stride...felt awesome.. now I just need to make sure I don't push too hard & bonk.. looked at my logs & this is about the point that I did bonk, in Oct/Nov last yr.

How is everyone doing?

Hello all,

Linda you were doing great. Are you still doing good? Fingers crossed?
I haven't been on the computer much the past few days and then when I was I had a lot to do. I ran 3 miles yesterday with the middle mile done in .10 intervals. They were fairly fast. That said, my breathing on the speed parts did get very jagged, but it's supposed to right? I'm interested to see what .20 inervals will be like. That's next week. I then went to the Philly flower show with my mom & sis. My calves were sore last night & this am.
Today it snowed so I went to work early and I'm heading to the gym now for weights and crosstraining. Maybe I'll even get in a swim as well.
Tom get that cable fixed. We're all lost without you.

Have a good day all.
Patty
