Hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day!

Shell - Good luck!!!!

Okay so I'm going backwards... yesterday I rested like a good girl. However, I've been much more active around the house & outside. I have no doubt that is what's causing the backwards slide. Guess I need to slow down a little.

I went 2.62 miles today 1 hr 2 min. 23:52 min avg. First mile- 24:40; mile 2- 23:38; .62- 22:56 pace At least the trend is going the right way. First 2 loops (1.8 miles) were the same, then felt better after that... but than almost to the end of loop 3 starting petering out.

Plan for tomorrow is doctors appt in the morning, meeting (quasi-interview) no job now, but they want to see me anyway in the afternoon. Probably no exercise walking, but will try to slow my normal walking down. Then see how I do on Saturday.

LL//........what I'm seeing is a HOUR work-out........
...................................this is great, as to the pooping out part,,,,,,,,,, try to work on Form, some of the Walking Sites suggest trying to leave the rear foot as flat as possible and pushing off with a Forward Motion as opposed to an Up-and-Down bobbing motion,,,,,,,,it's a more effecient move,,,,,,
.........when I get tired running, I concentrate on Form and BreathCounting, and Feeling the FootStrike instead of distance and how fast I'm going..........another Distraction Technique.......

Are we talking about legs getting tired? They never get tired since the breathing stuff started, I think its the bronchials pooping out... oh well, like you said it was an hour. I have to realize that this is coming along slowly since I'm doing more of other things.

Saw the doc today & he said to increase the Asmanex back up to 3 puffs 2 times a day until the next time I see him (in 3 weeks). He also gave me a new prescription that says that. He said the goal is to get me walking normally being able to do errands, & normal stuff around the house without symptoms. He doesn't seem to care about the running, especially in cold air & smoky air.. (its been smoky this week...maybe explains part of my problems this week too..) ahhh but it doesn't matter, if I can walk normally, I can run.

LL//........I'd be surprised if those legs ever get tired//////..you got too many miles in for that to happen.....

........naw, I just mean concentrate on Form to take your mind off the Breathing (so Breath Counting wouldn't be a good Idea)......maybe a Running Mantra,,,,,,,, just re-focus during the work-out to take your focus off the breathing......

I'm back from my race! I placed 9th in my age group and PRd by almost 3 minutes! DD also ran her 1st 1k...she didn't place and was disappointed, but I told her no one wins their first race...it's a rule! Here's a pic of me running her in

Congrats Shell!!!! Awesome job!

Tom - how did you know i wasn't running straight?

Happy, Happy day here!!!! Everything seemed to go perfectly.

#1 A nice warm day, probably about 60 - didn't even need a scarf.
#2 The concentrating on my feet helped a lot.
#3 The extra meds are working in a HUGE way!!!

Walked 4 loops (3.48 miles) & felt great the whole time. I handled it perfectly... & got the shock of my life for the max time - fastest yet.... avg min/mile 19:49; fastest 14:47

mile 1- 22:04; mile 2- 20:09; mile 3 - 18:18 .48- 17:32 pace.

Very happy & excited... now the trick is repeat today's strategy.. concentrate on the feet, make sure no tightness in the chest, if so - slow down.

What a difference a day makes ---

It was cooler today & I did a lot of chores around the house this morning, uhh yeah was feeling it & had to slow down just walking around the house. I went for a walk anyway & it was rough.... 2.62 miles at 1 hr 4 min. but maybe I'm learning something, with all this... the walking around house & errands is the worst of it - when I just get into doing things mode.. diaphragm was sore during the whole walk, so I just think the bronchials were tired.

rest day tomorrow, assuming Tues should be better.

SHELL//.........excellent running...........glad you enjoyed yourself,,,,,,,Congratulations on the PR//////
..........nice job........
.............and great pic..........(nice of you to help your friend)..

LL//...........woohoo on the First run,,,,,,,,,sorry on the Second one......
........let's see what was different:
-------Cold and Housework-----
.......ok........
................obviously we need to quit doing Housework,,,,,,,(there, that was easy enough),,,,,,

................so Peak Runs when rested, focus on the FootStrike
,,,,,,,,Endurance Runs when tired, focus on fighting thru Fatigue, and Steady Breathing,,,,,
...............each of those work-outs have positive sides, the tough ones are like Hill Work, not fun, but you have to use your Stamina to get thru 'em.........
...........Ya done good...........Plug On.........

well I had a bit of both today... very interesting. 2.62 miles walking in 59:21 The first two loops were such work, lots of mucousy flem still..wondering about possible congestion..it took 1.5 miles for the bronchials to warm up, & then warm up they did beautifully... was able to go faster, & faster as I went along in that last loop total: avg min/mile 22:41; fastest pace 16:47

mile 1- 24:01 mile 2- 23:25 mile .62 avg pace 19:20

So, i figured out something on Saturday it was 60 degrees & bronchials warmed up immediately, today low 40's... maybe I just need spring. starting to wonder if a little bit of TM work might be preferable. cold vs dust... not sure

or maybe one of those medical masks I used while packing? That might be easier to use on the TM. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try the the TM this morning. We had a light dusting of snow last night & its much colder than its been for awhile.

Hello all,
Doing pretty good here. I've been consistent in my workouts. I even swam last night. Down another 1.5 lbs after having gained a .5 lb last week. This week is to be consistent running no breaks. That said yesterday I started out too fast due to being late. I ended up doing less than 2 miles, but the first mile was done in 11:21 min. I'm excited that maybe I can keep that up somehow.

Shell great job to both you and your dd. It was nice that you finished her run with her. Maybe she will be hooked on this sport too.

Linda your doing good. Even your set backs don't seem to last long. I hope they are soon all in the past.

Have a good day all.
Patty

Hi Patty - good job on keeping up with the workouts & losing some more weight! I was up & down with the same pound for a month & then last week I lost 1.8! woohoo! some of my pants are lose, others fitting better...ahhh that makes one feel good

Good workout on the TM! I used the surgical mask, started out super duper slow 1.0 & increased when I was able, it took 15 minutes for the bronchials to warm up ( much better!!), then I started breathing in really deep & just kept increasing. I ended up walking at 3.8 - which is a less than my max speed yesterday.. I seriously considered running & then thought better to not do it. 3.8 was pushing it a little to stay walking at a consistent speed, but would've been fine for running. So I brought it down to 3.4 & walked for awhile, then gradually brought it down for cooldown. 2.27 miles total in 50 minutes (warmup was actually slower than I've been doing outside)... anyway I'm very happy about this, I was able to walk comfortably at 3.4 once I was warmed up & I haven't done that since the asthma hit. I always had to start running at 3.1 or 3.2 or symptoms would hit. btw - I think I'm ready to run, just think its the cold air that's been holding me back.

Linda great job on the looser pants. That's the best part, feeling more comfy in one's clothes and not having to go up another size. Your doing well and your restraint is marvelous.

Now out to dinner with family. This will be interesting.

Hello again,

Today I did 3 straight miles. Finished in 37:46, exactly what I was aiming for. Tonight will hopefully be 1 mile swimming.

That said I've been experiencing aches in the general btt muscle area for the past few hours. I did stretch after my run, but maybe I needed to do more.

Tom I've been reading the boomer run posts and spareribs is pretty funny. Seems you have compitition.

Have a good day.
Patty

well I took the first step....or the first steps picking my feet up I took to the TM w/ mask again due to it being in the 30's again, lots of snow on the ground..we got about 8 inches Wed night. I did 3.07 miles in 1 hour. I walked gradually increased for a 21 minute warmup, then I did a run/walk 2 min run@ 3.8, 2 min walk at 3.2 for 20 minutes, 10 min walk at 3.5, 9 min cooldown. ahhh when I finished I felt so good But when I was running, it wasn't the bronchials holding me back..it was conditioning. I was getting that stupid sideache I got when I first starting running. so I guess that means I should try to start at 3.6, but it was ok to handle for 2 min at a time, no more.

this is very good news though..the bronchials are ok once they warm up - but this cold is just really tough on them.. went outside to take some pics yesterday & started having trouble breathing oy! walking around the house has been rough, too, so now I'm wondering if the running will help it overall...but spring would be better!!!

Patty - do you do exercises for that area that is sore? This has been a problem for awhile, right?

Linda

LL//..........amazing/////..........never would have guessed ''Sideache''......

.......ok,,,,,,,ironically, if you're getting a sidestitch, you need to Slow Down and Belly Breathe
(told you It was Ironic).....
.........so, yep, back it down to the lower setting and see how that does.........I Really want you to get in a Run.......

.........ok, now .I'm getting Frustrated........................you deserve a good run.......

more progress I took it down to 3.6 & did the belly breathe, it definitely helped. I think I forgot how to breathe while running again...takes a 3 minutes or so of the belly breathe & then my old running breathing kicked in..close to 10 minute mark started getting the sidestitch again. need to be patient I guess.

20 minutes warmup gradually, 10R/3W/10R/3W/5R/3W, 6 min cooldown - 1 hr in all 3.08 miles!
