Tom: LOL, I will be behind you and picking you up after your back attack! I have never gotten fast---I figure with my body type I was meant to be a short distance (10 feet) sprinter. So any distance I do is at a snail's pace. ah well, I will still get a t-shirt as long as I finish the same day. I am planning the Snoopy dance of joy on the jumbo tron, so at the finish you may want to distance yourself from me...

Ok so slowing myself down didn't work.. I have some different things happen today & I'm not sure where the problem lies.. 1) backed off the steroids to 2x twice a day (like the doc said I should when I started feeling better) 2) it was colder & the bronchials took a long, long time to warm up 3) I was walking faster today

The faster is what caused the problem, but how do #1 & #2 factor in? Anyway, I went 2 miles today, I was on an about 2-3 min improvement of pace again, when 2/3rd into the 1st mile I started to bonk (on the uphill). Maybe I just should have gone slower going uphill... here is what the times ended up being mile 1 - 23:55 (almost the same as yesterday, but included a big slowdown) mile 2 - 26:17 total of 50:12 - total was exactly 2 min slower than yesterday & fastest was 1 minute faster, 19:42, vs 20:56 in colder weather...oops. The good news is that the slowdown worked. I was breathing better again towards the end of the 2nd mile & no asthma attacks this afternoon. However, I'm thinking about that taking days off strategy. I've decided to take off tomorrow as a rest day and do some yoga instead.

In fact, I have a new strategy - 2 days walking, 1 day off, 2 days walking, 1 day off... this is hard because I want to exercise everyday for weightloss - but I want to continue to improve also. This seems like it will help. Boy, I'm always full of new strategies, aren't I?

Hello all,

Heidi so glad you're back. I'd love to see that dance!

Rinda maybe 1 day 2 miles & 1 day 1 mile. I hope you get it figured out. You definately deserve a medal for persistence.

Ran today and did 3.6 miles of mostly running. The 1st mile was 11:41, 2nd 11:34 and the 3rd 11:54. I am so excited. I hope it stays that way when it's a straight 3 miles. I swam last night and am aiming to go to a yoga class. Of course we know all about the best laid plans.

Have a good day all.
Patty

Hi Shell - sorry you've had a rough week. I was wondering what happened to you.

Patty - you're doing great!! oh I don't know what the answer is, problem is warming the bronchials up & usually I mess up on the first loop. Still playing it my ear.

Tom - problem with the crosstraining is I think it will still take quite a bit of my air & possibly stress the bronchials. I think yoga is probably a better off day activity, not good for the WL but good for the bronchials & stretching my muscles.

Speaking of yoga, yesterday I did yoga & it felt really good! I could probably benefit from that more often. Today I went out for a walk, it was foggy & a little chilly but not bad. Interesting thing though, it was pretty much deja vu for Wed walk..except I handled it better. 1st loop - too fast down the downhill, uphill was really hard to do (but when slower than Wed, so better result), 2nd loop slower the whole way. but by the end of the 2nd loop, I was breathely really well again & sweating a little. I realized something, it took me to that point to warm the bronchials up. So, I decided to start walking towards a third loop & see what happened. I was breathing well the whole time, was able to walk faster & much easier up the uphill than the first 2 loops & than on Wed.

So, I walked 2.62 miles in 1 hour 6 minutes, mile 1- 25:01. mile 2- 25:40 .62 mile pace 24:55 it was slow, very similar to Wed, however that warming the bronchials makes me think about another strategy btw - on that warm day, it only took the bronchials about 10 minutes to warm up (less than the first loop). So now am thinking about walking farther than 2 miles if the bronchials have not warmed up. They need some time walking warmed up. I think that's how i get better. or maybe someone invent a bronchial warmer upper???

btw - Rite-aid called yesterday to say my prescription is ready...lol.. another thing I'm wondering about is if I should up the steroids back to the 3x twice a day, since I'm still having trouble with the uphills. I don't know, will have to think on that. I go back to the doc next Friday.

IP: You're coming to k'ville, right? We'll Snoopy dance together--it'll be a blast!

Linda: Whenever I feel puny I'm inspired by you, you are so strong. Good luck with your yoga.

Shell: Hey! Good work on your running.

Tom: I wonder why your speed work hurts your back? Have you tried kneeling on the swiss ball yet? It has done wonders for Mr.4eyes back.

Went for a 2 mile interval training today. Well, okay, took Beauxart for a walk which meant run as fast as we can to that stick then stop and smell, then run like crazy to this person and get pets, then trot along to the pee mail left by the last dog....you get it...It was fun, though. He's a cutie pie.
Have a great day!

I CAN Breathe!!!!! I CAN Breathe!!!! Figured out why the bronchials weren't warming up.. coughed up some yellow stuff this morning, guess that means I had a respiratory infection. Ahh such a relief.. I couldn't figure out what was going on. So get this: I walked 2.62 miles today & went 9 1/2 minutes faster than yesterday! no you didn't hear that wrong...woohoo! It was in 56:40 minutes.. times are :

mile 1 23:08
mile 2 20:54
mile 3 20:31

avg pace of 21:40 & max pace of 18:35

All is right with my world again!! I am back on the improvement trail. I felt like I could go forever, but held back for more with a cooler head (believe it or not). I am still planning on taking tomorrow off & doing yoga. 2 days on, 1 day off is still the plan especially with my excitement level at this point.

Shell - how did the 7 go?

Heidi - ahhh shucks.. thanks!

edited to change mile 1 (because I put in yesterdays amount originally)

Linda

HEIDI//.......naw, I got diagnosed with osteopenia.....bone thinning (and me drinking a gallon of milk every 2-days)....it's in my lower spine, ironically ''gentle jogging'' is ok for it, but I think the pounding of a hard run irritates it........no biggie, I don't usually run all out most times.......
..........and yep, this is gonna be a blast.........I tried the x-Ball and it seems to help, but the bones thinner, so I gotta use some sense.........(yeah, I thought that was funny too).....

well, since I skipped a run during the week, and I just felt like I could, I turned 7 into 8...did pretty good. Leg was pretty tired afterwards, but after some stretching (thank god for Yoga) things are good. Things are still doing good. I have my first 10k race next weekend

Shell - Awesome!!!! Let us know on the 10K, sounds like you are ready.

I sooooo want to walk today!!!! I'm breathing so much better. But, am trying to restrain myself & keep to that 2 days on, 1 day off. Yoga really needs to happen today, my neck & shoulder are really off the last couple of days.

walked 2.61 miles today 56:32 roughly the same as two days ago. It should've been better, but wasn't because I went too fast the first loop, slowed down a little 2nd, and back up on the 3rd loop... I know, I know - that first loop is suppose to be my slow one. Tomorrow will have to concentrate on that better.

mile 1 21:23
mile 2 22:00
mile .62 21:29 pace

Tom - maybe those pills will help

Linda

Did better on the stifling today However, not such a good result. If I think about its understandable though. I needed to do some errands today - so this morning I had 4 stops, valentine stuff for the kids, turbo tax, post office & DS' doctors office. I have not been able to do that many errands in a short time period for a long time. By the time I got home, I was a little winded, but too bad. Thought I'd just go off how I felt.

I walked 3 miles, the first loop I went slow (yay me!), the second loop was faster but still not feeling like I was warmed up, third loop was nice. I continued a little farther because, well I felt good & was bummed my 3 loop time was 2 1/2 min slower. At least stretching out the distance made me feel better I am happy with the trend of the times though. It means I was doing it correctly. 22:21 avg min/mile (slower than yesterday), 18:02 fastest almost 1 min faster than yesterday & on the last mile.

Mile 1 23:52
Mile 2 22:28
Mile 3 20:44

Hello all,

Heidi I'm not sure about k'ville. When is it?

Rinda breathe deeply & enjoy the scenery around you. Good job on 2 days of good walks & a rest day. I know how hard they can be to take.

Tom howdy.

I ran 4.6 miles on Sat. and 3.6 miles today. Sat. I was still doing 1 mile then walking a 10th and the first one was 11:27. My fastest so far. Today I did 1.5 miles then walked a 10th. They were 12 min. & 12:28 min. Oh and I did 2 10ths warmup & 2 10ths cool down. I think I was a bit tired as yesterday I didn't make it to the gym until last night. I hope to swim tonight.

Have a good day all.

Hello all,
Didn't get to the gym last night for a swim or this morning for weights & xtraining. Weather is bad and I'm at work, but I'll probably leave soon. Hopefully I'll get some kind of workout in tonight.

Shell woohoo. You'll do great, just enjoy the race.

Tom I forgot to tell you that my dad was aiming for a basketball team not a football team. He had some good players. Myself not being one of them. I rode the bench alot.

Good day all.
Patty
