Okay...not only have I not run...but I'm using the 2nd blizzard as an excuse to eat! Ugh! The ski area where we have season passes to is getting dumped on. If only we could get there!

Time to be thinking about new year goals. My first one is to start logging my runs. I'm thinking it might be like dieting and writing down what you eat, maybe it will make me run more if I keep track of it!

Hope you all have a great New Year's Eve. We are usually low key, I'm not much of a NYE partier, prefer to stay home and be safe. (and with the snow, I may have no other option!) I've lived in Denver for 39 years and these double storms have never happened! We may try to go to the Bronco Game.

Bye all...thanks again for keeping me motivated.

SHELL////......just run with what feels Right......you'll do fine...
........(now, some of the Boomers are telling me to find out when the High Schools are out for Spring Break,,,,,aaarrgghh,,,,,I assume the Rental Agents can let us know)
......thanks for any help.....
FIRST//.....Running in Place counts too......an old time formula-----do 100-steps (right foot counts) quarter-turn, and when you come completely around, it's 15-min......I add hand weights to make it a tougher work-out (1 or 2-lb will do).....
......I also used to run around the House (literally) but that depends on the House lay-out and the Inhabitants......whatever you do, just try to get 3-times a week,,,,,,Winter's rough, so just do what you can......
.............ok guys........start back easy, don't worry about last week, just fit in what you can do.........
.................and enjoy your work-outs.......

ok, I've been reading through this thread to find an answer. I haven't read every page, but I haven't seen anything about what the subject line is all about. So what is WASSARD/WOODY116?

Happy New Years everyone!

Well I went out for a walk on the hills today...all bundled up. Didn't track time or distance, however I know how far it was due to experience... did 2 loops for 1.76 miles first one was fine, second one I think was a mistake, but walked slower & used my inhaler 1/2 way through.. could've made it without, but thought it would be less stress on the bronchials & did feel like I was breathing better after I took a couple hits.

Its really tough to take it easy... it is interesting to see the difference between 2200 elevation & hills, & sealevel & flat... guess I will continue on, but if its a problem then will need to find a place in town.. I go back to the doc on the 4th, so we'll see what he says. In general (like walking around the house), I am feeling better than I was though.

Linda

1.76 miles again walking today. Good news - didn't need the inhaler during the walk today, bad news still had to slow down walking on the second loop... some improvement anyway.. oh & that took 40 minutes. plugging away...only had a normal watch with me.

Hi Everyone, I feel like a slug! I haven't worked out in two weeks. The week before Christmas was just TOO hectic and since then I've had two sick kids, three if you count husband, and haven't been able to go. It's times like this that I wish I had a treadmill in my house!!

Hello everyone! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Did 5k on New Years Day at speed racer pace and yesterday I did my first 3.5 non stop at "easy" pace. I found the slower pace much more enjoyable. Something to consider I suppose.

Linda...sounds to me like you're making some progress girl! Keep it up...how do you feel???

HK...what's the deal lucille? Do I have to break out the whip on you??? AHHAHAHA

TOM!!!!!!! How ya doing??

.......LL//////.......you're working the right muscles, we're gonna let the Lungs and the Doc figure out when to throw in the ssssssssssslow jog.......you might try some hand weights if you want a harder work-out,,,,,just do what you can handle right now......
..........you're doing better than you think.........nice job......
HWI//.........no biggie........most of us tanked the last coupla weeks......just Think how to fit in a work-out around what's going on..........and Running In Place counts too,,,,,,,,,it's convenient, it's in the house, and you can break it up into 15-min segments if you need to.........
.........so start easy, and see what fits for you..........just Think Aerobic......
SHELL/////.......excellent running........you have made some major jumps in your running lately,,,,,,,
........and sometimes Slower is Better........helps to co-ordinate pace-breath-and movement....
.............just keep doing what you're doing.......it seems to be paying off........good job.......
............ok guys.........heading into Winter, we're gonna try to Maintain til Spring.......just fix a schedule you can live with, stick with what works (for you), don't sweat any missed work-outs, and don't force it------back it down a notch if it hurts----

..........oh yeah..........and enjoy the Work-Out........

Tom...it's so hard not to push harder and faster when all these running moms are going faster and I WANT TO GO FASTER. But I think I've figured out that going faster does take practice, but if you practice it with EVERY run, you're body is going to say "screw you". So, one run is dedicated to tempo, one to steady, one to long, and one to easy. And every other week will be hills.

Hi All!

LL...I'm so inspired by your determination. Keep up the good work!

HW...I feel the same way. Running just went by the wayside this break, and my body feels it!

Shell...you are fast. At least by my standards!

Got back in the saddle so to speak today. I did a total of 25 mins on the TM, warmed up for 3, ran at 5mph for 17 and cooled down for 5. It was tougher than I thought. My legs were tired, but we skied hard just two days ago, so I'm attributing it to that, rather than the two weeks off! I'm going to start logging my runs...does anyone do it here on this site, or just on your own?

Have a great day!

First...wtg on your run!

Speed I guess is relative...I'm faster than you, others are faster than me...but when I look at the progress I've made over the past almost a year...I've gotten a lot faster.

today its raining here, put the running rain jacket on & went out for a walk. did 40 minutes again, this time slightly farther - I'd guess another .1 of a mile. I felt much better today walking up the hills.

First - way to go on your run! the next one will be easier

Shell - don't worry about the speed, run your own speed, don't worry about others. i think I heard that somewhere before

I was breathing easier yesterday, but don't know if its the moisture or maybe because it was a little warmer (like in the mid 40's)..

Thought I'd share my doctor visit, he was encouraged to see some progress. Because yes, I'm walking around better & even cleaned the house & vacuumed yesterday without a mask because dust isn't bothering me as much. He said I should be able to walk up & down the hills without symptoms, so wants me to continue my walks as I'm doing... he said to increase speed as I am able, including fast walking. He would rather work on getting rid of the symptoms than avoiding them by going straight to running (as my old doc was having me do). I was only taking the Asmanex 1x a day, Foradil 2x - so he increased the Asmanex to 2x a day & kept the Foradil the same, & not taking the Singulair anymore. He says the increase on the steroid should help me get even better.

Today it is snowing, & the pharmacy didn't have the meds in stock, but promising tomorrow. I'm out of the Asmanex as well, feeling it a little, so thinking maybe yoga today instead of walking...

Linda...glad the doc visit went well. Hope you are keeping your spirits up.

Did intervals for the first time today. Did my yoga and then 1 mile warm up, 4x400 (was supposed to do 2:25 a lap...I did about 1:50...gotta try and control myself) then 1 mile cool down. Leg feels good! I'm really pleased!

LL/////.........I think we got the right doc.............this makes sense, and if you're improving, I'd stick with what he's saying.....
........since it's supposed to Rain all the time there anyway, try going out again when it does, and see if you feel better.....
.................short of buying a Pet Duck......you may be a Rain-Runner In Training.......
..........don't force it, you're doing great.........
.................Plug On........
SHELL////...........yeah, you BETTER be pleased.........
..................................very nice work-out........you have really improved markedly......
............that said....Beware the Injury Fairy.........it strikes when you're on A Roll.......
.............so back off if you need to, ok??
..................ok guys..........nice work-outs........go easy, speed up in the middle, and Finish Smooth.......

Did 3 loops plus some today, actually 2 1/2 loops plus another .2 mile & then visited DH (where he was working) for about 20 minutes at the ILs house, then walked the rest of the way home... total 3 miles walking time 63 minutes.

It was very, very cold (well for me).. probably in the high 20's & I really needed that scarf the first loop. But after that, the bronchials warmed up & I felt pretty good walking.
