HWI//...........hang in there,,,,,,,,,,,,sometimes PT feels like you're getting Mugged On The Installment Plan......
.........................but hopefully it'll give you some relief.........
.........just a thought, when you start running downhill, lean BACK a little at first to taken the strain off.......later you can lean into it and speed up.......
...................also, try to shorten your stride on the way down to lessen the impact.......it's easy to over-stride and stress out the knees.....
............mess around with it, and see how it goes..........good luck, and go out easy the first few times........
IP/////........hope you get in a good run this weekend to make you feel less sluggish,,,,,,the cooler temps (we don't have 'em, but I've heard other parts of the country do) will help too..........if you get your Mountain Run in it'll be great, I love those things.........
................good running to ya.....
SHELL//////......ironically, I think it's the Walking that's helping.......
...................good recovery exericise, and you sound like you;re gonna be getting a LOT.......think ''Running'' when you do it, and I believe you'll be surprised at the Feeling........
..........Saturday, think ''Swquishy"".........go easy, ok??

...........ok guys..........got some Potentially Good Work-Outs lined up.......use your Heads, go with how it Feels, and don't force it........
.................enjoy the work-out.........

Hallelujah! I went and ran today and it was WONDERFUL!! I have high hopes for PT, if I feel this good after one treatment then I'm really excited. I know I had this whole mental block thing going that it was going to be bad for me, so to hear the PT tell me that I COULD run, but take it easy and stop it if hurts (who does that sound like??) He showed me why my left leg hurts and it's because my entire leg rotates in so much more than my right and it's a tiny bit longer. Those combined, when I run, it pronates excessively to overcompensate for it. Nice to know what the problem has been.

Anyway, for my run, I got on the treadmill and warmed up for about 15 minutes and then ran, actually ran. I didn't want to do any more damage so I did intervals, ran for .50 miles then would walk for 5 minutes, and went 2 miles. Then did some strength training. It felt amazing, so nice to run again. I guess even though I'm bruised I'll be going back to PT.

I DID IT I DID IT! I ran/walked for a little over a mile without limping and without pain. My leg was a little tight, but still good. At about a mile it started getting a little cranky so I figured it was time to stop before I recreated the problem. Just got done icing and a warm shower. Hope today it stays good. Oh and I managed a 11.19 pace. Not bad. Just I've lost a lot of endurance.

Tom//Just checking in to say hello! I hope everyone is doing fine. I am still running well and starting to find ways to work through some tough stitch pain while I am running. I have learned how awful it can feel and how long you can run with the pain. Tonight I managed to run through the cramp and it lasted about 2 miles. Fading in and out of course. Usually I stop, take it slow and then start up again, but I wanted to get to know my body more and tonight was supposed to be my long run, so I slowed, but kept running. It never got unbearable, but close. I managed 4.6 miles and 47 minutes of running time. I am averaging 35-45 minutes everytime I go out. This is a pretty good increase for me this year and the body is feeling pretty good. My legs always feel great. I think if the upper body was in a little better shape, I could go on for a long, long time.....just not there yet. Well enjoy the weekend!!!

Tom//Thanks for the advise...as always. As another bonus I just picked up a pair of new running shoes again....I am always excited about new technology and had a chance to visit a New Balance store in my area. Wow, was that an eye opener. I found out that one of the pairs of shoes I have been using is not meant for my running style. The person that helped me is a cross country coach at a local high school and gave me more information than anyone I have ever run into at a shoe store. I would recommend a New Balance store to anyone looking for a pair of running shoes. I can't speak for all of them, but the one in Geneva IL has a great employee working there with wonderful running tips and advise. His school starts training in January for a Marathon they run in May. Today they were running 16 miles for there workout. He also gave me some tips on the stitch pain I was having. I picked up a pair of NB 8505 which features there new zip technology. I can't wait to run on them, so I WILL be going out tonight for a run....who knows how long it will last, but I am really excited about having a pair of shoes that actually fit me properly. And, yes Tom I really am enjoying my workouts,,,can't wait for the next one at this point....and, planning on taking advantage of every day I can run before the freezing weather starts this year....Have a great weekend everyone! Happy running!

Hi everyone!

Just checking in from Oregon!! We got here Saturday at 5 pm, it took 12 hours to drive here. I got the computer set up late last night on dial up (well better than nothing). I haven't run/walked or anything else in 1 1/2 weeks due to the moving. But, think I'll get on the treadmill sometime today.

Hawaii - Congrats on the baby! so exciting.. Glad you're feeling better!

Shell - YAY! you seem like you're progressing, great news!

Hi to everyone else.. Lots of stuff to do! I will check in again soon.

Hey Linda! Glad you're getting settled in there!!! Things are looking good here with the running. Ran Sat., did some Yoga yesterday, and today am resting because I'll be walking all over the campus tomorrow. Maybe I'll run when I get home. I'm so scared to push it, but scared not to get out there and try. Little by little right?

Well I gues it just wasn't time for us to have a baby. I miscarried last night at around 12:30 am. I guess that's really this morning. We were really excited to see the baby on the ultrasound Thursday and you could see the heartbeat. But it was really low, only 104, and I've felt the whole time like something just wasn't right. Not sure how to describe it. I've never had a miscarriage before, hope I never do again. I don't know how long I have to wait before I can start working out again. Just wanted to share.

Hello all,

Hawaii I am so sorry. This is a sad time. You and your family are in my prayers.

Tom we didn't go to the mountains. The weather reports indicated that the weekend would be a washout so we stayed home. Sunday and Monday ended up being nice days. I did get dh out touring the old city in Philly. I love that area. We did the new Constitution Center and Independence hall. He seemed to like it. He, at least, found the Constitution Center interesting. Afterward we went to the City Tavern for dinner. I loved the atmosphere and the food was very good. They did give huge portions, so we brought food home with us. The staff was dressed in Revolutionary period costumes. The food and drinks were from recipes of the time.

Monday I did 12 miles, not 14 as I had hoped. I haven't registered for the 1/2 mary yet. I'm nervous that I won't be able to complete it. I'll probably register anyway and try it. It will at least give me a goal to pass for next year.

Shell good job on the smart running this weekend. Keep up the good work. I'm with Tom in thinking that the walking probably is helping.

Rin good luck with the treadmill. How does it feel to be in Oregon? Do the kids like it? Have they started school yet?

Patty

Got on the tready this morning & walked 1.82 miles in 40 minutes... better than I expected after almost 2 weeks off.

Hawaii- I'm so sorry... {{{HUGS}}}

Its so nice to be in Oregon, I'm much more relaxed which I needed desperately. The air is smoky from forest fires, but hopefully they'll be over soon & it'll be much better. Kids aren't in school yet, but DS starts tomorrow, DD next Monday.

Good answer Miss Piggy. Are you doing any running or is it still the bike & stairs?

Tom I'm just worried I'll start out too fast and end-up walking a good portion of the end of the race. I seem to have a thing with walking parts of races I know I can run the whole distance. I guess it's a mental block or something.

Today I did 6 miles with 4 of them 1/2 mile intervals. They were at a good speed but none were a PR. I'm doing a little more than my training plan calls for, because if I do as little as they suggest, then I know I'll bonk.

So Tom how's the back doing?

Have a good day all.
Patty

MP//////..........good answer..........just take care of the knee first......
.........how's the steps doing??
IP////.......actually, you may wanna try going out slower than usual at first, then pick it up after 3-4 miles by passing the guys who started out too fast.........if that fails, pad a little around 7 or 8 and see what you got for the finish......
.......the pacing may be what's messing you up, SO just do it like a training run...........(another thought).....
..........the back's not great, ran in non-cushioned (enough) shoes and paid the price........got some new Reebok FSM's and they seem to get more padding on the landing......but for now, I'm going slow..........(ironic, isn't it??).......
..................but I'm going/////
...............ok guys..........know what you can handle, don't come out of the chute too fast, and know your pace.......
...........mainly--------enjoy the work-out--------
