Well, I think I'm getting the hang of this pacing thing. Did 2.5 this morning. A little bit slower pace than yesterday, but still in the 10s. I just stopped caring about how fast I was going at the start and just got a little bit better and then at the end started focusing on the lamp posts and making it to each one. NEGATIVE SPLITS! I'm getting excited about my race Sunday.

I think I'll treat this just like I do my long run just a little different. I'll run walk the first couple of miles to get warmed up and then go from there.

Shell - is the race this weekend? Good luck to ya! I think you have a good plan.

Okay I've made a decision to not exercise even walk for a couple of weeks. It seems my just trying to do something has been putting pressure on the bronchials, so I'm doing something different trying to rest it for a bit. Once I get a few weeks into these meds, I should be able to get bacl to it. Trying to remember the long term goal of running & feeling better, not the short term one of losing weight & trying to do something!

LL////........good thinking, and good luck trying to NOT work-out........(easier said than done)......
.......I'm sure you'll feel better if you can just lay off a while.....

........isn't it ironic that only Runners have trouble making themselves NOT run??

It's 6:30 am...I can't sleep any longer. Too excited about my race.

LInda...sorry you'll be needing to take some time off, but maybe it's the best thing. 2 weeks can make a whole lot of difference. I know I'm going to take the week off from xmas to new years eve just to give my leg a little more breathing room and I think that will be my plan of action every 12 weeks.

I'll write more when I get back from my race!

Howdy Friends, How is everyone's weekend? Mine has been great.

I got my butt out of bed (not early at all) Saturday morning to go meet some friends and run. I didn't realize that they were going to run 5 miles and I ended up run/walking the distance. I couldn't run the whole thing. And the logical part of my brain told me that I SHOULDN'T run the whole thing. I'm not ready for it. Not used to it, nothing. Why do that to myself? I ended up only being 5 minutes behind them anyway. It took me 60 minutes to get 5 miles under my belt. Not to shabby for 42 degree weather. I am SO not a morning or cold person.

I didn't stretch very well after and today my legs are really tight. I don't see how that could be good for my IT band, but I'll stretch it a little and see if it feels better.

it's a little upsetting, but not too much! 2000 dollars in tuition is more important to me than 20 dollars to run.

Hi Shell!! Congrats on the final. I took my Anatomy & Physiology for Nurse Anesthesia final today- got an A!!!! Whoohooo!!! Only 3 more to go.......

Just checking in with an update..
I've been enjoying my running MUCH more now that I've chilled out about it. Sticking to the HH spring training plan and all is well. Did 3.5 on Sunday (my longest yet!) and it was great! DH took me to a real running store for an early Christmas present so I could get the right kind of shoes. Turns out I'm a pronator. Well they bring out about 10 shoes to try, and I truly did not know the prices as the were putting them on my feet. I REALLY liked this one pair-of course the most expensive there. So I'm the proud owner of a pair of Asics gel-kayano shoes. Isn't DH sweet?

Tom...the quad did pretty good. Right at the very end it was getting tired and I knew that I wasn't going to go further than that, but it's recovered nicely. I iced and did yoga quickly afterwards. And things seem to be good. My long run this weekend will be lower.

Good job on your tests guys, that's impressive. I miss college. I was enrolled and had "a bad feeling" like I needed to withdraw (last possible day) and so I did. A week later my husband got called up to go to Iraq. There's no way I could have gone to school full time, done all that homework, and taken care of a sad, little boy who missed his daddy so much. I knew my priority was being with him, so it made it easier to not miss school. But I'd love to go back.

Today went to the gym and worked out my legs. I'm still trying to do a lot of strength training for my darn ITBS. Then I got on the treadmill and warmed up good, and did intervals again. Run 3 min, walk 2, run 3... Went really well. My knee didn't hurt at all. I ended up going 2.5 miles and a time of 40 minutes. This time last year I would have rolled my eyes at that time, but this time around I'm a little wiser and I know I have to take care of myself.

Any hints on what exercises to do for strengthening the upper legs and butt? Especially the outside of the butt.

Hawaii...interesting premonition.

Did 3 somewhat brutal miles yesterday. And I say brutal because about 1/2 a mile of it was on grass, sloped, so it was like running through sand. Should have just jumped into the street.

Anyway, that being said, I did 10k on Tuesday, 3, yesterday, and I'm scheduled to meet someone from cool running on Sunday to do 6.5. Debating on whether or not to do 2.5 today since I'll be WELL PAST my normal mileage. Decisions decisions.

Finals are done, grades are in. (Not official ones though) Looks like I got a B in Archaeology and an A in N. American Indians. WOO HOO!
