Tom - read about your back in Boomers. How are you doing today? oh & I almost started laughing when the doc said a scarf - I thought does he know Tom??? I don't know if he runs, but I think he might. He didn't react at all when I mentioned the running. When I asked about it, he said just wait at least 2 weeks until the medicine kicks in. He did say he was concerned about the cold air & house dust, so only walking outside until the bronchials start healing a little. Guess 2 weeks will make a difference.

HEY ALL! No mosquitos today on my chilly, but very nice 5.5 miles. WOO HOO! I DID IT I DID IT! My foot spazed again at the end, but eventually settled back down. I wonder if it has something to do with knowing I'm almost done. Maybe I tense up...I don't know...but I did my run nice and slow...walked for 1 minute every 10 minutes, had negative splits all the way down! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

SHELL//////.........nice running..........see if you're pushing off on your toes, sometimes that causes a foot-spasm........if so, try landing mid-foot towards the end of the run (if that's comfortable for you)......
........good job.......

Tom- hope your back feels better!

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I did 3 miles this AM (gotta stay on plan!! ) but told myself going out that as much walking as I needed to feel comfortable was OK. But you know what, I just went slloowww and was able to run (or jog) the whole thing. Took me 42 minutes, but that's fine. Only during the last 1/4 mile did I start to lose the "I could go all day" feeling. And I was out of town and running on a trail along the water- beautiful!!!

I will try very hard not to hurry; I know this is just the beginning of a life-long habit.

(repeat to self- "patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue....")

I've never felt the "I can run forever" feeling...I'm always ready to finish after 30-40 minutes...oh well, it may come later.

My DH thinks I should push myself a little faster. Today, I alternated between 4.8 and 5.5 and felt pretty good. It's not that I get winded, I just don't want to hurt myself. I figure I'll work up to doing 5.5 for the whole time and go slowly from there. Does that make sense, or should I try to take it up a notch?

Hope you all are well. Take care of that back Tom. Back troubles are horrible.

FIRST//..........just do what feels right,,,,,,, when I get the Second Wind, I'm usually at cruising-speed, not particularly fast,,,,,,just focusing on my breathing or my foot strikes,,,,,it just happens.......
..........but rarely when I'm going fast..........if you feel good at a certain speed, there's no reason to push it......you get faster the longer you've been training anyway.......

...........thanks for the good wishes, I already have several Plan-B's to fall back on (Big Shock)......

.............nice work-out.......

First...nice run...you'll know that feeling when it hits you...it's like everything around you disappears accept for the sound of your feet and your breathing. It's really quite a neat experience. I've only experinced it once or twice while running...otherwise it usually hits me after I stop.

Tom...you're falling apart! Stop that!

SHELL///////.........not actually ''apart''........most of me is still attached, but I land REALLY SOFT when I'm running now.....

Howdy strangers! How are you? Long time, no post. Lots of stuff going on, congrats to all the good, sorry to the negative. Not much time to post, I'm going to bed so I can wake up early to work out.

Been going to the PT. I can't remember if I told you what he said. My left leg is like 1/8th inch longer than my right and my foot rotates in a LOT more than my right. He said that those two things are what is causing my ITBS problems. LOTS of strength training for the butt maximus and outer butt. Those muscles help stabilize the leg and keep it from totating in too much. He putt these cork inserts in my shoes, inside of left foot is angled up to help keep my foot from rolling in too much.

No ASTYM last time! WAHOO! That hurt like crazy. He's very optimistic about Moab HM, March 17th. He's more optimistic than I am, but I'm going to see how I feel. If it comes to that date and I don't feel ready then I'll switch to the 5 miler.

I ran today, warmed up and ran intervals for .50 mile then decided to just run and see how I felt. I ran for .50 straight and felt great, but to be on the safe side since I haven't been running, I switched back to intervals. It felt awesome. Plus I did some strength training. Good to be back. Missed ya.

Tom...Can't say I've ever swallowed a mosquito, but I'm sure one has tried to land in my mouth! Rest day yesterday, did some Yoga this morning, will run this afternoon when it's a little warmer and when my body is a little warmer.

HK...interesting dr report. Keep up the good work!

Well I finally went out for a walk today, 45 minutes - didn't keep track of miles. It felt good. But this evening kinda crashed & burned - not sure why, but the peak flows were low right about dinnertime. But on the positive note, I didn't really have that 2-3 hours after exercise problem, so that's a good thing...

Linda...I'm gonna have to agree with Tom! YOU ROCK!

I ran on the treadmill yesterday. That thing was a BIG liar! Told me I did 2 miles in 26 minutes. My body said I was doing at least a 9 something pace. That thing was brutal! Leg didn't like it too much either, and then everyone coming to talk to me! UGH! Next time I'll just be brave and go outside!

Linda I'll echo Tom. You're doing fine. It's will definately benefit you in the long run.

Shell I'm curious. What is cold for you? Your doing well and being very consistent.

Julia the miles your doing now speak well for your ability to do the relay.

First sometimes that high can be seen as just feeling strong and good during a run. It can take a new runner a while to get to that point.

Tom I didn't read it. What did you do to your back? And what are you doing for your plan b?

I've been consistent in my mon., wed., and fri. runs and tues. and thurs. crosstraining. I've increased the runs to 3 miles, but I'm still walking more than running. The btt muscle was at first iritated, but it seems to be getting better. Fingers crossed. Otherwise I'll be crosstraining everyday.

Have a good day all.
Patty

SHELL////......yes, TM's often lie........just don't borrow money from them......26-min is a good work-out......let your body tell you how you did........nice running.......
IP//..........good deal, the walking should help a lot with re-habbing the BTTM........congratulations on sticking with your schedule, it looks smart and do-able........
.........the Bulging Disc in my back pinches off a muscle group according to my doc (the cyclist).......my own fault, I used poor Body Mechanics,,,,,,,,,I leaned forward to tie my shoe and went shooting BACKWARDS in a back spasm......
.......Plan-B involves x-bike standing, elliptical, versa-climber (all straight-back exercises) and a tentative run this Sunday on the padded infield at the Stadium...........I should be back at it next week......thanks for asking////////
.............ok guys,,,,,,,,,looking good going into Winter,,,,,,just remember, during the Dark Months you try to maintain, save the fast stuff for Spring..........so try to hold your schedules, don't force it,
and be careful tieing your shoes,,,,,,,,
.................................(it's more dangerous than it looks),,,,,,,,
............enjoy your work-outs..........
