an extra bone? glad it wasn't anything major. Good job on your track workout! So I did 4.43 miles this morning in one hour 12 minutes. That's a 16:22 min/pace including the warmup. It was 28W (because I ended up walking with some neighbors for a bit)/8R/4W/5R/4W/2R/2W/6R/2W/2R/5W/2R/2W total 25R/47W... I feel as though I 'm almost there... I think once I get a little better I'm going to drive into town & try running on some flatter areas for some of my runs. Linda

Welcome Julia! Ok I may need a little help so that I don't go crazy! Linda...good run...I'm not going to lecture you! I just got back from my 5 mile run...foot didn't hurt...Actually think I did more than 5, but I set my garmin to 1 mile intervals with1 minute walk and I had already mapped my route, so I don't think it counted the distance of the walks. Little bit slower than last week, but still under 11!!! Leg is tired, but holding up!

Shell...I'm glad your foot isn't hurting! 5 miles...I'm so impressed. I can't seem to get past three...did just about 3 on the TM this am in about 36...I need to step it up a bit!Welcome Julia...I just popped in and it's been great for me. I can't seem to get to threads enough to join them...many are daily, and I just can't do that...so this one is perfect! DS won the "Superbowl" today...great game that went to the last play! We are exhausted and proud! Looking forward to a short week! I think DH and DD are going to do a Turkey Trot on Thursday...it's four miles and I don't think I'm ready, plus DS is having trouble with his foot and I'm going to make him rest now that football season is over. Have a good day!

First...all things in time. I haven't done 5 miles NONSTOP...my long runs always involve a minute of running every mile. as I get further along I'm sure my breaks will come at longer intervals.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Geez I didn't know there was an application....What do I want to get from my running.... I want my running to help me move towards a healthier life..get me off the couch and away from the cheetos and beer. It's been my experience that when I do 1 thing (like get off my butt and exercise) that the rest becomes easier (eating healthy and losing weight). I want my running to help me relieve stress. I'm in a pretty intense graduate program so I need it!! I want to be able to finally call myself a runner because I've always wanted to be one but never kept at it. Now, at 38, it's time to follow through. I did the C25K in August/September. Currently at about 10mpw at a 12-13min/mile (maddeningly slow!!!!). I've signed up for a marathon relay in February- I get the 4.2 mile leg. So that's what my current training goal is. My longest continuous run was 3 miles (I did the C25K for time, not distance), and I did a 5K last week in 37:04 (went out too fast and did lots of walking). So I need to get up to 4.2 miles, and get FASTER!!! Julia

SHELL////.........excellent running........the 1-min walk is a smart move.......we can drop it out later, after your body knows how far 5-miles IS.........good job...... FIRST//.........3-miles is great........worry about speed and more distance later, this is a good mileage at this point.....nicely done...... JULIA//......good answer,,,,,,,weight loss, stress relief,,,,,,Running can do all of that, just hang in there and expect Life to throw off your training periodically..... ......racing is the gravy, but it's the regular training that makes the rest of it fall into place..... --------------------- .......I raced for 10-years, tore out my ankle-ligaments in a fall and thought I'd never run again.......(later it dawned on me I HADN'T thought I never ''race'' again)........it's been 38-years, and I'm still at it..... ------------------------ ........basically, you guys do all the work, I just throw in some advise/experience so you don't get hurt, or think you're not doing so well (when actually you are).........and if you think it'll help, feel free to check in........ ..............ok guys...........looking good, nice long run in (with intelligent 1-min break), good TM work-out, and a good start for running the rest of your life.........we've had worse weeks/////..........so let's review........ .............start off easy .............stop if it hurts, and walk it off .............go soak in a hot tub ..............and something about a Hat .. (ok, I just love throwing that in) -------------main point--------->enjoy your work-outs<----------- ------------------ nothing takes the place of persistance.... Hello Everyone, back from Hawaii, tan, and ready to run. I'm going to call the PT tomorrow and see if I can get in this week. I haven't ran, didn't run at all in Hawaii. All those good plans just didn't happen.I have a question. I know you aren't supposed to run on consecutive days, but I'm anxious to get back into things, so I want to walk at least on my days off. Is that going to be ok?

HWI//.....welcome back,,,,,,,,,going on consecutive days is ok if you can pull it off... ........however, watch out for the ''Making Up for Lost Time'' Syndrome, which results in injury and more missed days...... .......go at it easy, back off if you need to..... ...................enjoy your work-out...........------------------ nothing takes the place of persistance....

Welcome Back HW! Glad you had a nice time. I try not to run consecutive days because it causes my leg to hurt, but walking in between should be fine! Hey Tom...found out that my 5 mile runs were in fact 5.3 and 5.25 mile runs. WOO HOO!
