Way to go Shell!! My suggestion is to keep doing a 5 mile run once a week (even after training for this particular race). As long as the leg can handle it.

No exercise Sat or Sunday for me. I went to the 5K Saturday that I was going to run, but couldn't run. I cheered on some Boomers & took my DD. It was fun. Just ran out of time for exercise, I wanted to, but had to say oh well.

Ok I think I need to buy warmer running, walking clothes! I had sweatpants on today, 2 running shirts(one tank, one long sleeve), sweatshirt w/ hood on today & I was freezing... TG for the hood though!

I walked 2.14 miles in 48 minutes, slightly faster, more time, more distance...looks like I'm plugging away. The avg pace was 22:25, which is an improvement from the 25:15 last Thursday, so looks like I'm heading in the right direction. When I get to 19 or 20, I'll be able to start adding some running in.

Hey all!

Shell - when is that race? you're sounding excited already!

Today I went out about 8am it was probably mid-high 30's... took the scarf & bundled up a little more, fleece jacket instead of sweatshirt & long johns under the sweats. lol it was a beautiful crisp morning! but I was warm, even had to take off the jacket, mittens & scarf half way thru.

I went 2.65 miles (all walking still), for 57 minutes. that's an average pace of 21:34

Tom, oh that hood helped tremendously yesterday!

LINDA! YOU GO GIRL!

Race is Dec. 10th.

At the very end of my run Sun. and my run today I felt a twinge in my foot. Like I wanted to pop it but it was in the metatarsals (I think that's the long bones in the foot) It went away and it's not bothering me at all, not painful at all, but I'm not taking any chances and called the foot dr. immediately. Will see him Friday.

Hey TOM! What' shakin??

what about your alignment? sometimes even my feet get misaligned. I'll do yoga & my feet start cracking!

Check this out! I got a statement from my insurance company that said they wouldn't pay for my orthotics & the doc wasn't allowed to charge me either. It said that my diagnosis was Plantar Fascitis, the doc never did tell me that... geez!

Shell - have you done yoga? I'm sure I've asked before..lol Well House was on last night I actually just started watching that show.. now that its on later, I can do that. Before, it was in the middle of mom's kid duties.

I went out again today.. avg pace 17:18!! guess what that means - yes I ran...
21 min W/7R/4W/5R/10W/5R/4W/2R/2W 1 hour workout & 3.47 miles! woohoo ahhh it felt great! actually got a little sweaty, but maybe it was all the freaking clothes I had on! 2 shirts, fleece jacket, long johns, sweats, mittens, scarf! lol it was cold & windy, a little chilly walking that first 21 minutes.

Hello all,
I know I haven't posted in a while. It took me a long time to get back to running. I'm still not 100%. Last week I started running again. I did a run/walk on 2 days and hiked on another. This week a run/walk, then weights the next day. I woke too late to get a run/walk in today. It's probably better that I give it an extra rest.

Linda sorry that you had a relapse. It sounds like it wasn't as bad a previous setbacks.

Shell take it easy. The icing down that your doing is it because of pain? or is it prevention? Yoga is good for runners and I need to take that advice.

First you sound like your doing well.

Tom how are you doing? Still running a few days a week yourself?

Have a good day all.
Patty

Hi Patty! Sorry you're just getting back to running, sounds like you're going about it just right. Well it was as bad, but I got back to exercising sooner, even though I still felt terrible... which that helped me recover faster, instead of whining & moaning on the couch... well & I was able to do a little of that since I wasn't working, I think that helped too.

Shell - yes yoga does help for alignment, just need to start on the easy stuff. My chiropractor in socal told me that yoga had been taking business away from him... I'm always out of alignment due to my bad shoulder, weak back muscles because of the shoulder, moves to the hips to the feet... After the PF & injury, sometimes my feet would hurt, then I'd do yoga & they would feel great! it just took me awhile to figure out it was the alignment that was messed up... oy!

Hi all!

Love the Irish Patty nickname!...I too am an Irish Patty! Actually a Mary Patricia...but if someone calls me Mary, I look for my mother!

Did a half an hour on the treadmill and felt really sick to my stomach after! I've never felt like that before! I must have been dehydrated or something...I'm not drinking enough water, I'm sure! I'm trying to increase my time a little, but just can't wait to be done after 30 mins. Maybe I'll try 33 tomorrow and go incrementally slow!

Watched "House" last year...don't seem to know when it is on this year??? He is one of those characters that you don't know if you love him or hate him!

Another busy weekend...DD has basketball tournament and DS has "superbowl" football championship! Hopefully the weather will be nice and they both do well!

Happy almost friday!

Pat

HEY PEOPLE! Did an awesome 3 last night on the track...spiraled down and then back up. ( I noticed though that the track has gotten lumpy...or maybe it was always lumpy and I never noticed. I don't think it should be lumpy though...small towns) On the second to the last lap I got this wicked diaphram spaz so I had to walk for a minute and then I "kicked" it the last lap. Had my garmin going "SLOW DOWN" "SLOW DOWN". I finished with an avg. 9:40 pace. Wonder what it would have been if I hadn't had to walk.

First time...I had it when I get nauseated...but that usually only happens to me when I'm going very very fast or I ran too soon after eating or when it's getting close to that time of the month. I've yet to barf, but I've come pretty close. I heard that lots of people at my first race barfed as soon as they hit the finish line...EWWWW.

SHELL////........excellent.........this is how you learn to Pace,,,,,,
.............and it WILL take a little messing around with to learn.....
........the Trick, as you now know, is to run it so you still have that Kick left at the end.........(sorry about the cramping).
......just throw it in every week and you'll be pleasantly surprised how soon the body adapts to Spiraling......
..........very good job......

I guess I got a cramp because I was going to fast...but the rest of my body didn't seem to think so. And the only time I was watching my speed was on that last 1/4 mile. I've really got to get better about going slower at first and faster on the second half. Practice and discipline I guess. I can say that after that last "kick" when I was done I guess it was enough to kick the endorphins in because I felt as though I could have kept running (slower of course)

Got back from the foot dr. …he’s says whatever I’ve experienced with my foot is in the cuboid bone region which contains about 26 ligaments, so I probably just stressed one out. Nothing spectacular. He’s got my foot taped up in the most amazing way to see if it does anything one way or another. But overall, I have good feet for running. On the weird side however…yah always gotta be just a little odd…I have an extra bone in my foot!
