SHELL/////.........whoa//.........sorry, my bad, in that case we need to work the Spirals before you run it...........if you can do that, should be no problem pacing a 5-miler.........

well, I'm not going to the race to win anything, just for the fun...they give you antlers and jingle bells and I can just hear the xmas music in my head so I think it'll be lots of fun! But...I would like to at least complete 5k of that 5 mile in a better time than my previous race. Can you explain the spiraling thing again and how it will help me in the next 4 weeks and 6 days before my race.

......well, you want to Pace this race so you can finish strong......in this case you're going to spiral in from the outside lanes each lap until you run 20-laps........the idea is to KNOW how far 5-miles is and run it so you have the reserves left to finish........
.........it takes a little messing with, too fast and you can't finish, too slow and you need to pick it up on the last couple of miles.......
..............but first, your body needs to know how far it is....

rest day today, PFT this morning... seems like anything in the air does it to me, while cleaning, vacuuming, untangling yarn... seems like I almost have to wear a mask to do anything ... just crazy.

Shell - ok my two cents is that you just run & see how you can go without walking. - 3.5, 4 miles, 5 miles? But you should go slower than normal, because at first you will need to build the endurance to go that far. don't worry, you will speed up once the body builds the endurance. Like I said before, my first time of 5 miles was very slow.. had to keep slowing myself down.. but the body had to get used to how far that is (like Tom said). But once it got used to it, I was running my 3 mile pace at 5 miles & then my 3 mile pace was faster than before.

Linda.

Thanks Linda...good luck at the Dr. The last time I did 5 miles I ran 2.5 and walked, then ran the rest...of course I was injured and making it worse...and it just went downhill from there, but as long as my leg holds out I think I can pull at least that off again. I did it in under an hour.

Morning All...had a nice 2.5 run with a 10:04 avg pace...it's getting harder to keep from going too fast! I end up doing it and not even realizing it.

Well, I must be a race nut now. I signed up for the Jingle Bell 5 miles in December, and I'm going to sign up for the Galveston Mardis Gras 10k in Feb, and I"ve committed to doing a relay marathon in Vermont in May! I think somewhere in here I'm supposed to be going to school and taking care of kids and working and all that other stuff.

good run shell! I always had to force myself to slow down, as I felt it getting hard, or too tired.. I'd tell myself slow down, slow down...amazing thing happens, when i go slower, then I go farther

edited to add: You see my legs wanna fly! but other parts just won't cooperate... so what's holding you back? Is it the legs? or is it just feeling tough? I don't want to tell you to go farther if your leg is bothering you.

Did 1.48 miles walking for 30 minutes on the tready today. slowly, but surely...

Hey Tom...yah, I just want to get past the 5 miles because right now my world is going out of control. (Ok, it's probably just PMS induced anxiety)

Tom - haha yes it sounds very familiar! In fact, Shell is acting just like I used to...now I'm older & wiser.. well sometimes...

Yesterday I felt like I could almost run but knew it would be pushing it to do it.. so I didn't... yes I enjoyed it too. So today I decided to go brave the big bad outside world & walk on the hills. I really wasn't sure if I was ready for it or not. But, knew that last time it helped me a lot, so off I went. I walked 1.40 miles in 35 minutes which is sooo slow. but, hoping it helps the bronchials recover quicker..

Linda

went out for a walk 1.42 miles 36 1/2 minutes, that's slower pace slightly, however my stomach was bothering me, including diaphragm area before I went... just felt a need to go & it was the end of the day.. took my cell with me just in case. Anyway, I started out slower than yesterday, & ended up faster (Even though still slow) & feeling fine. Yesterday, bronchials needed a little candleblowing at the end. So I think today was actually better. oh & it was COLD! we had snow up on the hill right behind us this morning, but was melted by mid-afternoon.

still plugging away...

Thanks Shell.

Today I went out for a walk again & it was soooo cold.. its only in the 40's today for a high. Put sweats on, longsleeve runningshirt & a fleece jacket on - I'm guessing it was in the 30's when I went this morning. I walked 1.81 miles in 42 minutes, slightly quicker pace.

Hi everyone!
It's been a crazy week...I don't know if I'm just making excuses but I didn't get a chance to run until this morning...did about 2.75 miles on the treadmill.

Wish I could have run on Tuesday while I was standing in line to vote! 2 hours, ugh!

It may be a busy weekend...my ds is in the football playoffs...it's going to be a good game! If they win on Saturday, they go to the "super bowl".

Shell and Linda...glad to see you are getting your runs/walks in!

Have a great weekend!

SHELL///////.........nice going, just stay within your ''comfort zone''....when you get done ''pad'' an extra 5-min (this is a rrrrrrrrreally slow jog, just faster than a walk to boost your distance, after a few you can run a bit farther).....nice work-out...
LL/////...............scarf over the nose and mouth for the cold stuff (hey, it has YARN in it, may boost your distance).......nice going.......you're a tough trainer........nice job.....
........Plug On.......
FIRST////.......only the last work-out counts,,,,,,,ya did good, now plan when you can fit in the next one.....
......Life has a way of interfering with Training Schedules......just do what you can do......nice job.....
...........ok guys.........we're doing the schedule, just keep plugging, and enjoy your work-outs,,,,,,,,

It was a nice steady pace avg between 10:20 and 10:40...I'm on a 10k training schedule and wasn't supposed to do 5 until next week, but it worked out that I did it. I'll do 5 next week and then go down to 3 I think. WEEEEEEEEEEE
