Here's a good rant about that ...

http://plymouthrock.blogspot.com/2006/03/running-daydream.html

One of my favorite running movies, though haven't seen in many years ...

The Supermilers. Footage of all the WR milers from Bannister to Coe. Future WR holder Steve Cram is shown coming in second to Ovett when he broke the WR.

Surely Chariots of Fire should have more votes, this movie won best picture at the 1981 Oscars and I still find it one of the most inspirational films ever made. Beautifully acted, great script, great story.

If you have never seen it, rent it out the day before your next race, and your feet will itch to run.

The Vangelis soundtrack will stay with you forever too.

I wrote words to that once:

The Chariots of Fire theme.
We run on the beach
With funny white shorts and ...
No shoes on our feet

We're getting all mud-dy
From the waves and the sand.
Don't know about you but ...
This is NOT what I planned

<bridge>
I just wanted to go to France.
And see girls without their pants.
I don't need to be a jerk,
But this is way too much like work.

The Chariots of Fire theme.
We run on the beach
With funny white shorts and ...
No shoes on our feet

You're singing it now, aren't you???

Worst running film of all time:

Not even some hot girl on girl action could save it.

I also remember from the 90's a made for tv movie written and directed by Michael Landon which was supposed to be autobiographical where it shows how childhood bedwetting turned him into a great runner (because his mom would hang his wet sheets out the window to dry so he would have to run home from school everyday to remove them before any kids saw). Forgot the title.

A quick search showed it was made in 1976 and is called "The Loneliest Runner"

I hope she washed those sheets beforehand....

What about Gene Hackman's running performance at end of French Connection II, after going cold turkey? Surely worthy of a mention. Dustin "Marathon Man" Hoffman could learn a thing or two from him about running form.

In my Runners World (May '06) they recommend:

1. The Games
2. The Four Minute Mile
3. The Jericho Mile
4. Run Lola Run (but I'm for-against it)
5. Fine On the Tracks
6. Forrest Gump
7. Across the Tracks
8. Second Wind
9. Personal Best
10. Chariots of Fire

and I'm going to add one: Run Ronnie Run! Anyone seen it?
