Sometimes, when I'm in kind of a weird mood, my favourite running song is "Not to Touch the Earth" by the Doors.

Not to touch the earth
Not to see the sun
nothing left to do but
run run run
lets run
lets run
....

Train Kept a Rollin - Aerosmith
Just about anything by Ramstein (it's all in German so the lyrics don't matter, but the beat is really good!)
Theme from the Last of the Mohicans
And the new version of Lady Marmalade

I think it's funny that just having the word "run" int he song gets people going.

The songs that really get me moving are hard to explain. (Because it's hard to describe musical qualities)

I like things that are uplifting, motivating, forward moving, and slightly mystical. (tinkling piano helps) A bonus is if the transition from the verse to the chorus suddenly "lights up". It's a feeling I can only describe as "generous spirit"- it makes me feel like me heart is going to explode into and merge with the universe.

My best three examples are:
Alanis - Surrendering
Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere
Coldplay - Clocks

When those come on my body just lifts right off my heel-toe running and I'm hitting the ball and toe of my foot only. I have to ramp up the treadmill by about 2 MPH just to keep up.

If anyone is familiar with those songs and can think of things that sound similar, please let me know. I'd be greatly appreciative.

Red Rider -Human Race

I can see it on the road ahead
Running hard I'm here
But I could be there instead
Many houses with the lights on
Silhouettes behind the shades
Beside fires
I'm sure that I saw you in one
I loved you but
That was way back then
Now I'm alone outside
I face the wind
The rain washes me thin

Knocked me down and I got back up
I got myself back in the race again
Knock me down and I'll get back up
And I'll get myself
Back in the race again

Race through the shadows
Race against stone
The sunken city
I thought was my own
Might be in a brave new world
But it's not my home
Roll over fall in
'My God', I screamed
They might catch them
They won't catch me
I'm out here clean
I'm free...I'm free

Knocked me down and I got back up
And I got myself
Back in the race again
Knock me down and I'll get back up
And I'll get myself
Back in the race again

Pendulum,
I think you're thinking of a Pink Floyd song...I really am not into them, but my DH listens to it. I can't think of it, but hope it helps!

"Every man wants to be a maffetone man
To have the kind of body always in demand
Joggin' in the mornings, go man go
Work up to the hill's top, muscles grow
You can best believe me
He's a maffetone man
Glad he took you down with anyone you can
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey

Maffeto, maffetone man
I gotta be a maffetone man
Maffeto maffetone man
I gotta be a maffetone man."

I'm glad someone brought it up. Everyone sing along now:

The tough of the track
With the wind
And the rain that’s beating down on your back
Your heart’s beating loud
And goes on getting louder
And goes on even more ’til the
Sound is ringing in your head
With every step you tread
And every breath you take
Determination
Makes you run never stop
Got to win got to run ’til you drop
Keep the pace hold the race
Your mind is getting clearer
You’re over half way there
But the miles they never seem to end
As if you’re in a dream
Not getting anywhere
It seems so futile

Run on and on
Run on and on
The lonliness of the long distance runner

I’ve got to keep running the course
I’ve got to keep running and win at all costs
I’ve got to keep going be strong
Must be so determined and push myself on

Run over stiles across fields
Turn to look at who’s on your heels
Way ahead of the field
The line is getting nearer but do
You want the glory that goes
You reach the final stretch
Ideals sre just a trace
You feel like throwing the race
It’s all so futile

I love love love listening to "Run" by Snow Patrol when I'm starting to get exhausted towards the end of my run and I need a little push.

"Louder, Louder
And We'll RUN for our lives ...

Have heart, my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess."

Really pretty.

I also like listening to Billy Talent's River Below

"Into the river below
i'm RUNNING from the inferno..."

And lastly, though not specifically about running....Garbage's Push It:

"push it...make the beats go HARDER ..."

LOL, fredurie .... that's too funny! Maffetone Man!!!

I'll have to think about favorite songs to run to ... but a song with Run in the title that I haven't seen here yet is:

She's A Runner - by Billy Squier

I'ts not fast enough paced to run to but I always think of it when I think of running songs because I like the title!

here's another ... sort of ...

Life in the Fast Lane - The Eagles

I like things like Metallica to run to ... the faster paced ones with a hard-driving beat ... Fuel, King Nothing, Ain't my B*tch ... Disturbed, The Black Crowes, and Linkin Park are also favorites of mine to run to ...

penduluum ... not sure if it's Pink Floyd or not that you were thinking of but if it is maybe it's

Comfortably Numb ...

Hello .... Is there anybody out there?
Just nod if you can hear me ...
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now .. I hear you're feelin' down ...
Well, I can ease your pain.. get you on your feet again ...

...... lalallala ... blah, blah, blah ...

... There is no pain, you are receeding ..
a distant ship smoke on the horizon
you are only coming thru in waves
your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
my hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain .. you would not understand
this is how I am
I ... have become .... Comfortably Numb
I .... have become ... Comfortably Numb

lalalalala .. blah blah blah ...

One of my alltime favorite songs!

I never thought of running to it, though? *scratching head*

Ghost Runners (Running Up a Hill)
by: me.
(To the tune of Johnny Cash’s Ghost Riders In The Sky)

An old fleet footed runner went out one scorching sunny day
At a mighty hill he rested as he went along his way
He turned and saw a sight that made his blood run with a chill
A pack of distance runners a-chargin’ up that hill

They had bib numbers pinned on and were running in a race
With a hot breath and exhausted the runners set a heated pace
Then a bolt of fear went through him as they thundered up that hill
And he heard the runners cry out while he was standing still

Pick up the pace
Pick up the pace
Ghost Runners running up a hill

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat
He's running hard to catch that pack, but he ain't caught 'em yet
'Cause they've got to run forever up that hill into the sky
In running shoes on fire
As they run on hear their cry

Pick up the pace
Pick up the pace
Ghost Runners running up a hill

As the runners loped on by him he heard one give recourse
If you want to save your soul from Hell a-running on our course
Then runner change your ways today or with us you will run
Running on the Devil’s course in the heat and in the Sun

Pick up the pace
Pick up the pace
Ghost Runners running up a hill
