Woah woah what's this?! Argh nothing against you but I just hate it when people label bands like that or say they "sold out". Green Day has never been "emo" and never will be. Yeah okay so their sound has changed somewhat since the days of Dookie, Kerplunk, etc and Billie Joe decided that eyeliner was a sweet look...BUT...it's still an awesome band. It's just that they've been overtaken by a bunch of young teens that normally listen to pop, etc who hear 4 songs off of American Idiot and automatically think they're GD's biggest fan and go around saying "OMGZZZ BILLIE JOE IS LYK SO HOTT!!!". Sorry I know I'm really stereotyping on that one but that's how it seems. Wow this is getting really long lol, but hey they're my favorite band I had to defend them. ------------------ Dammit I gave in and made a profile.

Anyone listen to more drum beat music? The Flashbulb anybody? Maybe I'm turning into a DDR techno kid when I run.

Music is for people who don't want to be bored out of their minds while they're running. If I'm running at an easy pace - like 60% or so, singing Disney songs works pretty well (lol, it seems immature, but it's actually very fun). Also, ABBA music usually has a good beat for running.I would also recommend Texas - Inner Smile from Bend it Like Beckham. It's inspirational!

I have to agree with SoFarGone about the whole Green Day thing - the die-hard fans are the ones who know of songs other than on American Idiot. I am one of those who likes a few on that album, but I don't consider myself a Green Day maniac Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Holiday are great! But, speaking of something that the name Billy Joe is similar to, Billy Joel is completely amazing!!!!!!

If music is for joggers then I better get some. A soccer mom with an ipod passed me the other day... She had an '05 Chicago Marathon shirt on, so maybe I don't feel as bad...

I have to say that Greenday and Trapt are my two favorite artists for running. Staind and Poe are pretty good too though. Hard rock bands are the best for running, because they get you pumped. Even when I'm not running to music, I sing in my head. It really helps me forget the miles.

Yeah same here I get songs stuck in my head and start singing them even when I'm not listening to music. I always end up with one or two lines repeating over and over lol. Adding to the list CKY. That is one sweet band and great for running. ------------------ Dammit I gave in and made a profile. SU-FI [This message has been edited by SoFarGone (edited Jun-07-2006).]

I'd go farther back on Greenday, btw. Do you know the song "Minority"? (I wanna be the minority, down with the moral majority, cause I wanna be the minority... I pledge alliegence, to the Underworld, one nation under darkness in which I stand alone... etc.) I liked 'em about 6 or 7 years ago. How long've you guys liked them?PS: I still listen to them some, just not the more depressing ones. And I agree, ABBA has the kind of steady, running beat I like.

Anyone sing sweet home alabama when they run? I just did for some reason last run, and accidentally picked up the pace a lot... (from 8:10 a mile to 7:40) it was on this long downhill, and I got to rolling, it was awesome! And to KeyLimePie: Aside from that being like my favorite food ever what Disney songs? I wind up singing weird songs, often ones that I haven't heard in a while, (like Sweet Home Alabama) and sometimes only like 3-4 lines... Cause I don't know the rest. But never a Disney song. Do you mean like the Disney songs where Aladdin takes princess whoever up on the magic carpet and they start singing?... (as a side note: if you can get two guys to sing that duet where aladdin takes princess whoever on the magic carpet, it's like the funniest thing EVER... heeheehee... try it some time.)

I got into them about when Warning came out in 2000 (with Minority and all that). I was 10 or so. Then of course I had to go back and get all of their older stuff which has now become my favorite (Insomniac, Nimrod, Dookie etc). But American Idiot is sweet too. What's your opinion on Panic! At the Disco? (And not just as running music, but your opinion of them in general). Just curious. ------------------ Dammit I gave in and made a profile. Yes, "A Whole New World" is a very good running song - they don't have steady beats, but pretty much everyone grew up on that stuff. It's Princess Jasmine, too. Heeheee, I actually have heard a guy sing that. It was something I'll never forget. Other good ones: The Bear Necessities, No one (blanks) like Gaston, Be Our Guest, etc. Also, songs from "Muppet Treasure Island" are really good. Musicals also work well, too. I get them stuck in my head. Phantom of the Opera and Joseph (and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat) definitely have catchy tunes. Why, of course key lime pie is your favorite food!

Cool... I got into music when I was 10 or 11, (5th grade) and Greenday was one of the first bands I started listening to. 99 Red Balloons by Goldfinger is another favorite of mine-I have more single songs and mixes than I do albums, so I really couldn't tell you about Warning... I like Minority a lot, and... what else was in that album? Jack@$$ I sorta liked... It depends on what I feel like listening to. Sometimes quite a bit I like them, others I get annoyed. (with the depressing ones...) I kinda sway between listening to harder/softer stuff every once in a while. Greenday is the best for listening to in the car on a long drive out on country roads I think. that's kinda fun in itself actually. I like your profile pic btw-Office Space is a great movie. I watch it like every time I go to my friends house. (I think I've seen at least an hour of it 6 times now-we skip around a lot) "WHY do you tell me paper jam, when there IS NO PAPER JAM!!!" and "sounds like SOMEBODY has a case of the Mondays"... hehehe.... And I have the Muppets movie somewheres... I'll have to watch it when I find it. Anyone go to Homestarrunner.com?

Argh! Why'd I say Sweet Home Alabama? I meant Paradise City. Why did i call it Sweet Home Alabama? That's not even close... Major brain fart I guess. (Jeff, where do you live? PIZZA! i mean, really, where I came up with that...)

Oh yeah Office Space is probably my favorite movie. I can basically recite every line to it. It's slightly pitiful. And I'm with ya on 99 Red Balloons, I love that song! Although it's been covered by a ton of bands (Goldfinger included) but I still like their version best.

They were $15.00 at Radio Shack (they had them at Best Buy, but they were more expensive).

Bikepath in the middle of the day- fine, familiar residential area with sidewalks- fine, but perhaps not on a major street with tight space. It's always nice to hear those 18-wheelers bearing down on you. contrary to popular opinion, there's no correlation between ability/seriousness and the decision to listen to music. Haile Gebrselassie was said to listen to music on his easy runs, but I guess he's just a jogger anyway.

I don't listen to music. depending on where I'm at on my season I use my runs for either strategizing, practicing form, or focusing on a race. if I'm not in racing I use my running time as a time to think and relax. Music really throws me off.

Running is definintely the best time to think, and ofen relax, especially if its no-brainer terrain. I made my 2 mile loop a four miler cause I was thinking the other day-one of my most enjoyable runs to date.

yep...music's fer joggers, and runners, and spinners, and walkers, and treadmillers, and yoga-ers, aerobic-ers, and ...well, you get my point. I highly recommend trying a free Podrunner mix from www.fitpod.com or from www.djsteveboy.com (or both), especially if you DON'T think music is for running. I cannot get enough of it myself.

When I run at home or a gym on a treadmill, I always have music with me. Because usually when I'm on a treadmill, it's a fun run, and I sing and wiggle around/dance while running and try not to fall down hahaSome of my favorites to run to: Billy Idol ACDC Nirvana The Blues Travelors Primus Red Hot Chilli Peppers Def Leppard Twisted Sister Queen Guns N Roses Jimmy Eat World The Ramones Aerosmith Metallica Oldschool Greenday Chumbawumba(I get knocked down) Trapt and so on... I figure I'd love music while road running because music in general is just great to listen to, I've just never tried it yet lol. Haha I suppose I'm too lazy running those many miles to grab my mp3 player as I head out the door I run my fastest with Billy Idol and The Ramones thanks to their fast beats.

not completely relevant but michael johnson used to listen to music before he ran. i heard he used to listen to "Me Against The World" by Tupac. I know its not quite the same as listening to music while you run but mj could hardly be called a jogger...
