dcv2002 - we're staying at a B&B/rented apt on Boylston - very helpful to have a kitchen with 2 little ones!MikeBro - I'd guess finishing times are typically slower for most folks @ Boston. I had a Q time of 2:59 last year and was in the 3rd corral, a friend had run 3:19 and was in the 7th or 8th. altair - EXCELLENT answer on the light bulb ?.

Has anyone seen a hill-adjusted split calculator for Boston? For New York and a few other marathons, NikeRunning.com has suggested mile times (adjusted for hills) for any given finish time goal. Strangely, they don't have Boston. Anyone know of such a site?

I got my confirmation card in the mail, just a couple days after I registered. My name shows up in the list, so if I were Bruno I would be mildly concerned, but there is a lot of time to work things out.I will throw out a few more data points RE: qualifying times, race times and bib numbers. do what you wish with them. Last year I qualified on a fast course with nearly a 100% effort. 3:30:08, I was assigned 10750 (first wave with 250 numbers after me, second wave starts with bib number 11,000) Someone on cool running qualified within 8 seconds of my time. He was assigned a number 8 digits off from mine. I trained fairly hard for Boston, and feel I ran well with slightly less than a 100% effort (I like to say I could have run a little faster, but it would have quit being fun) 4 months after I qualified, I finished Boston in 3:35:09 (5 minutes slower than my qualifying time) I finished about 7400th so I maybe passed 1500 or so people who qualified faster than me. Do what you will with the above numbers. This year I have a B&B with kitchen, and laundry. near the finish. I'm staying for a full week. Dave

My two little ones will probably be staying home with Grandma and Grandpa. Where did you find the B&B/rented apt info? vrbo.com? Also, I'm hoping my 3:06 from NY will get me in the 3rd corral (3000's), I heard 2:55-56 was the cutoff for the 1st corral (1000s) last year? Hoping to go 2:55.

Hmmm, I responded earlier and don't see my post... Nike does have the splits for Boston but strangely enough they call it Marathon Monday. You can also try this site: http://www.rrca.org/resources/articles/baasplit.html

Thanks for the replies to my questions! I guess I'll just have to wait and see where they put me.My answer to the puzzler: Q: How many marathoners does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A: Only one, but he has 150 manuals all giving different instructions!

My 2:59 got me a number in the 2000's so you should be in the 3000's is my guess. I had no problems at all getting on pace right away - get near the front of your corral and you should be fine (I started in the middle of mine and went with the flow - 6:50ish for the first mile or so, not too far off). My wife finds these palces - we've used bnbboston.com before but they kept switching places to monthly rentals. I'd just google B&B's in the Boston area...most of them do not charge the 15%+ hotel taxes so though the nightly rate may be higher, it works out to be similar cost-wise.

Am staying in Newton so I can admire the hills before I run them. How many runners does it take to screw in a light-bulb. Don't know, but we all would want a medal when we are done.

Ah...I wondered what that was. Must be some kind of trademark issue. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

ARRRGGHHH--Still nothing on my registration, nor on the two emails I've since sent. So I'm mildly concerned. Divechief--when did you register? I keep telling myself that it must be because of the innudation of applicants from recent october marathons. Spankee--I lived in Newton for a few years--I think its a good call on your part for a place to stay. Litterally if you're staying at the Ramada its like 8 miles to the finish.

First of all congrats on the BQ time! I will be slightly behind you with my 3:26. From what I understand the waves will pretty much be split in two. And as you can see from divechief's post a 3:30 last year got you into the first wave. It shouldn't change all that much this year. I too am hoping for the first wave start. I don't even mind being at the tail end of it. Heck with a little luck and some good running maybe I can pass a few runners along the way. Plus it is good to know that most of these runners (a little emphasis on "most") have qualified so you shouldn't have too much trouble with the runners around you causing you pacing problems in the first few miles etc. Even with the large crowds I haven't had those issues running Boston the past two years and hope that continues. Hey there Bruno28, I would stay right on top of your issue. At least you do have plenty of time to get it straightened out. But don't wait, keep at them and I am sure you'll get it taken care of. ------------------ My User Profile "Keep on Running" Bob

MikeBro,Qualified last year with 3:15:07. That put me in the 6th corral(bib # 6280). I ran a relaxed 3:25, meaning I didn't worry about splits, just ran. That was good for 5025th place. I think that the numbers start with 1000, exept for the elites. That means I finished about where I was seeded, meaning that people in general ran slower. ------------------ Tom

I personally think the luckiest people in the race are in the first corral of the second wave. You actually get to lead the Boston Marathon for a while. That chance is not open to many people. You will actually see the starting line and the started. If I knew the qualifying time to be in that corral I would shoot for it for sure.

I had heard that you could move back in the coral numbers but not forward, (not sure if that is true) but I imagine that they would want to prevent everyone from piling into the first coral of the second wave.

Last year they would allow you to move back corals, but you could not change waves.

Thanks. Staying at the Mariott which seemed to have a good rate in Newton. Just hope it doesn't make me obsess about the hills. If I were you I would phone them or re-register. If they didn't charge you, it is likely that there was glitch. If you end up registering twice and being charged twice you can alway get the charges reversed. It is nice to know before the winter starts that you have been confirmed for Boston in the spring. Makes winter seem shorter.

My 2:56:52 got me bib number 2015, so there is the close cut off for the first group. My 205 stopped working around mile 19. Really a bummer because unless you come to a dead stop and wait for it to regain the signal....it doesn't come back. If this is your first....just enjoy it. I ran a 3:01 and high fived the crown most of the way!

Hey Bob, I didn't have to re-register. They kindly replied to my email and explained that they were still waiting for the RD of the Grand Rapids Marathon to send in an official copy of the race results. Then this friday at around 2 I checked the list of entrants and there I was. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again!

I could only lurk until yesterday. I needed to requalify for Boston since I hadn't run a qualifying time since Philly 2004. I went back to Philly for another BQ yesterday and succeeded so I registered for Boston last night. Arrived home from Philly to find a BAA pocket calendar and a note from Elle, the volunteer coordinator, thanking me for my involvement last year. The timing was coincidental, but perfect! I'm in the process of revising my pace goals but I'm thinking of trying for a 2::54 in Boston------------------ Portrait of a Formerly Vegan Runner When I'm not training, I'm blogging!
