I am planning on heading to the expo Friday early afternoon for a little while. Not sure how long, but wouldn't mind meeting a few "cool runners" then.------------------ PR Marathon 5:22 (Twin Cities Marathon 2006) My User Profile

Let me know what time you are going to be there Sandert, I work about 3 blocks from the convention center. Would be nice to meet not only a fellow CoolRunner but a fellow 30 too.

This is it folks... 4 days to the gun! ... It looks like the weather forcast has changed a little... Now it appears that some cloud cover is expected, however the high of 55 is now up to 57-58. Still pretty much perfect for the race.Good luck eveyone!!

Yes, the weather forecast is looking good - for the kind of weather I like to run in anyway! My fiance is a hot-weather runner so he'll be a little cranky. We fly out tomorrow morning! I went for a short run yesterday and my knee felt good. I'm actually starting to have a glimmer of hope that I'll get through this without too much pain Looking forward to running with you all soon!

Taper jitters: First the random knee pain, then yesterday sharp PF pain. Usually happens in airports after too little sleep, so this time it came a bit early. Taped my foot up for sleeping last night, and now it's fine again today. Someday I'm going to get a Strassburg Sock just for the one day every three months where it does this. Oh well, all's well now.Plan revision...some family issues over who picks me up at the airport. So. Not going straight to expo. Probably going to expo in early afternoon. I'm 6'4", will be wearing olive zip-off pants and a grey Nike dry-fit shirt along with my blue running hat. The hat has the bear on a waterfall catching fish and says "Brooks Lodge" and "Alaska" on the front. I think the odds are pretty good it's me if you see that hat... Waiting to see if our flights are going to be leaving on time. The Alaska Air flight to King Salmon arrives in the morning, then goes out to Adak (Aleutians). Comes back and picks up people here then goes to Anchorage. If weather in Adak is bad, they just turn around when they get here..."Oh, hello, is that Mr. Hamon? Could you please be at the airport in about 20 minutes to catch your flight, oh, 7 hours early?" Not a normal place, this. So far, no call, so probably on target for this evening departure... See you at the start...or finish...or somewhere in between... ------------------ Troy Running resume My running log

Oh man, I woke up this morning with a severe pain in my neck! You know, when you somehow lay wrong on the pillow or something and then your neck hurts for daaaaaays... I've had one of those sticky self-heating pads on it all day and it's getting better, but can still barely move my head left or right. Man oh man... what a deal! I'm just hoping that there's enough recovery time that this won't be an issue on Sunday. Plenty of time... plenty of time... plenty of time... kestrou

kestrou- "Pain in the neck?" I've heard of "phantom" pains experienced during a taper, but not ever that far up on the body. You may want to try some IBU and ice/heat. I'm not going to make the expo until Sat. probably around noon or so, as I have another 20 mile run to do on Friday. JUST KIDDING! Didn't sleep well last night. Got up several times. That is unusual for me. I normally sleep very sound 8-9 hrs. If anyone will be at the expo on Sat. and would like to meet, I'll be wearing a tan ball cap that says, "The Mist Spa."

If so, I would like to beg, borrow or buy it from you. If not, no biggie, I'll just buy hers at the gate, but 'twuold be nice to get one free (or cheaper If so, my email is in my profile. sandert,I checked your profile, but didn't see an e-mail address. You can have my ticket - I'm flying out later that day, before the concert. Hit me via e-mail kestrou@nexlan.com and we'll trade cell numbers. I'll be at the expo Saturday afternoon, or could possibly hand off the ticket Sunday morning. kestrou

One more question for the veterans...What time would you recommend being at the bus pickup? I know this hasn't been exactly smooth the last few years - just thought I'd see what you guys thought. Flying out "crack of dawn" in the morning - will check this thread before I leave - can't wait to cruise across the finish line leading the 3:20 pace group!!! kestrou

I know people last year waited over an hour just to get on the bus so i am planning on being there about two hours before the half start time (unless I get someone to drop me at the start like last year ------------------ PR Marathon 5:22 (Twin Cities Marathon 2006) My User Profile

Great job sandert! I was shocked and surprised to have no knee pain the whole race. Finished somewhere around 4 and a half - didn't want to push too hard after taking nearly 5 weeks off with the ITB issue, SO needed a 6-minute bathroom break, spent a lot of time at water stops after my last dehydrating run in AZ, etc. I was just happy to feel so good throughout for my first marathon - there will definitely be another!

First marathon. First PR. 4:00:13. I really am very happy with my time. Yes, 3:59:59 was my goal, but surely can't complain 14 seconds can I ? My half came in @ 158:35, so the splits were pretty even. Felt super @ 18, good @ 20, fair @ 22 and the legs felt like lead @ 24.I know if I am to improve, my weekly average mileage is go to have to go up from 28 miles. If it wasn't for getting in 4 20 + runs I probably wouldn't have even finished.

I'M GOING TO BOSTON BAY-BEE!!! Missed qualifying at Chicago by one minute and ten seconds - then ran a 3:18:14 yesterday (PR by almost four minutes) and it was the easiest marathon I've ever run. Phoenix is now my favorite city. Well, until Patiot's Day, that is! Couple of notes: Did anybody else in the marathon notice that the clocks at the mile markers were off by about two minutes for about the first two hours? I didn't notice for a while and then freaked out that maybe my watch was off and I was actually three minutes behind where I thought I was. The clocks "reset" about two hours into the race and were then correct. This was the coldest marathon I've ever run - even colder than Chicago - my gels were practically popsicles! I hopped on the bus to the start about 6am (hour and a half before the start) and there was no problems with transportation at that time. My neck is still a little stiff, but that didn't bother me. Hope everybody met their goals!!! kestrou

Tommy - Yup, you nailed it - to bring the time down you've got to pile on the mileage. I wish it weren't so, but... All - here's a link to my race report: http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/Forum5/HTML/003904.shtml kestrou
