I'll be back by the 3:30 group, I expect.

I'm sure Greg will remind you - start your watch when you run over the mat because that's when he'll start his.Another suggestion - start it a few seconds after you cross the start and then do the same at the finish - that way your finishing picture is not a shot of you hitting your watch. My wife pointed out that most every finish line picture was the same - me grimacing and hitting my watch instead of looking up and smiling or mugging for the camera.

I never came across the answer. If anyone has the numbers, I'd love to know.

Not really an answer for you, but if you hit the "Online Confirmation" link to the left of their main page, then search without putting in anyone's name, you get the entire list of registrants. When I checked just now, it was just below 11,600. But this is registration for all the FP races--10K, half, marathon, etc. There doesn't seem to be an advanced search function to filter out non-marathoners (or whatever race you're looking for).If anyone knows how this compares to last year's total number of registrants, we could roughly extrapolate to a guesstimate for marathon numbers (e.g., if total registation is up 25% from last year, then we could guesstimate that the full marathon numbers went from 3,800 [last year] to about 4,750 this year). Wildass guessing is fun! Going through the 2005 FP finishers lists, I get a total of around 8,680 registrants for the 10K, half, full, and full relay. Looking at about 20 random 2006 entrants, these 4 categories account for all but 2 of the entrants (the missing 2 are kids running in short races). So, I'd guesstimate that registration has increased around 25% and that the full will probably have between 4,500 and 5,000 entrants this year. And this doesn't count any people they allow to register at the expo on Saturday. FWIW, Mike

And...one of the marathoners will be the pancake flipping guy http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060504/SPT/605040419/1062

OK - for those people in the 3:10 group...if the pancake flipper dude is in front of us, we're scrapping the 7:15 pace and going after him. I don't want to be beat by one of the gimmick runners. I was pleased that I beat both the jogglers at Boston.A solid goal in any race - don't let anyone wearing a tutu or a super-hero outfit beat you or your friends will never let you hear the end of it. ------------------ Pacer Dude

Watch out for this guy! Not because he'll be dressed as a shark...he's a lawyer. He finished in 4:30 last year so most of you should have a chance to beat him. [This message has been edited by R K Tekt (edited May-04-2006).]

That shark guy is something else. I've run next to him a lot. He gets a great reaction from the crowd.Interested in a video tour of the Pig? Here it is http://www.flyingpigmarathon.com/video.html

Very nice--thanks! I note that the video doesn't dwell much on the uphill portions of the course. I'm sure we'll hardly notice them.

OK, Thanks! I'm most interested in the 1/2 and full marathon. I'll be doing the HM hopefully in about 1:45. I had a track meet today, but I'll take tomorrow and Saturday off and hopefully be ready for Sunday!

Judging from last year's results, the FP half and full have pretty much the same number of entrants, which is unusual (normally halfs have a lot more entrants than the simultaneous fulls).

Only about 7 hours until race time so everybody have a great 26.2 or 13.1!

Hi - It was my first HM today and it went really well! I loved all the bands along the way - the first hour flew by! Hope everyone got what they wanted out of the races today. I can wait to improve my training for the USAF race in September!!

Mike,Nice half marathon time - it doesn't look like you lost much fitness at all despite the time off! Good seeing you out running again - I bet it felt good for you as well. Chris

Thanks. Nice job yourself with the pacing. I've already read some rave reviews from other runners on your performance today.I felt really good the first few miles (don't we all!) and was able to put a little distance on your group in the hills. I just checked my training log and found that I had 7 quality runs totaling 44 miles over the past 58 days because of the stress fracture. Today I just missed a PR by 15 seconds from the only other half I've run (was getting over an ITB injury on that one). I am anxious to continue running this summer and get some speedwork in. I'm sure I've got a 1:2x half in me. I ran next to Lindsey for a little while until just before the half split. She went on to finish 2:59 and came in as 2nd overall female! I think this was her first marathon. I'm starting to really like the half distance. It is a challenge but doesn't take an inordinate amount of time to train for and you can still function normally for the remainder of the day following a fairly strenuous effort. The Pig course was difficult though. Several miles of uphill followed by some serious downhill almost to the finish. My quads and knees are what hurt most right now. Keep in touch. Mike

So, does anyone know who the suited guy was at the finish line? He was shaking all the finishers' hands, but I had no idea who he was.

According to yesteday's Enquirer, it was Joe Hale. He ran 7 marathons in 7 months in 7 different continents. He is also Chairman of the Flying Pig Board.See here for more info: http://www.runjoehalerun.com/ [This message has been edited by R K Tekt (edited May-09-2006).]
