Yeah, I know what you mean about arf and econo fighting over you.

But the worse fight was between between saoundie and arf, right?

Thank goodness the other goddesses came over to save you.

What a fun to read report, mariposai. You are so upbeat and had such a good time it's very inspiring. Congratulations on a PR in a marathon only 6 weeks after another marathon. Your title sure caught my attention as we had what we encountered goat heads when I lived in El Paso in the mid 50s. They are nasty things. I can verify they can puncture a bicycle tire as I've repaired several such punctures. It makes me cringe to think of one in your shoe during a marathon.

Oh, what fun! Your races are always joyful, mariposai. You have the same gift that Tetsujin has! Congratulations on your PR...on a tough course, too! I would have loved to see you fly up that Galer hill. See you soon...

yikes butterfly-ness! i'm feeling like a princess, since i have to stop to get grains of sand out of my shoes when i run... but a goathead???? sheesssh. it conjures up images of one of those self-flogging pilgrimages.

add checking your socks to the pre-race list. actually i often spend some slow-motion time carefully putting on my socks and shoes before every race, and giving my toes a little pep talk.

so an amazing job in the face, errr, foot of adversity. sounds like you had a great time with the boomer squad, and glad you enjoyed some beats along the way.

I'm glad the other Boomers who hadn't met you yet got their chance. It's all been said before, but you are a joy to be around. Thanks for the pictures, too. I would have paid anything to be there if I'd been able to run. (no worries, I'm back) I mean, just look at Dark Horse surrounded by all you lovelies.

Dear butterfly princess,

Especially since you thought the bellymary would be the finale of your second season as a marathoner that was so grand and because I'll never forget the two miles of joyous running together with you there, it was the biggest treat of all to be able to run the first seven miles of your first Seattle Marathon with you again. I'm glad the goat head gimmick worked, . . . I mean sorry about the goat head. <<<let's see, one goatshead = 7mi w/posie . . . with 3.5 I might be able to keep up for a full mary>>>

Thanks to your dh too for the great photos, retrieving my pink thongs for the finish (I hope he didn't get too many comments while having to carry them from the hotel to the finish as I did wearing them back!). He also enlightened me for the first time about the odd-branched monkey trees around here that have captured my attention ever since childhood. I'd love to have him as a guide on a trail run and am so glad he brought you to us from so far away.

Thank you especially for the custom-made 100-marathon t-shirt and signs you and divechief, etc.spent so much time making. I hope to do the same for all of yours sometime too.

Even though you've been able to set consecutive PR's in your recent marathons, I've been so sorry to delay you so much first in the bellymary and now at SM but, when I unexpectedly caught up to you again at mile 12 when you were running with your hamstring-hampered friend, I could see the joy and happiness in your smile about being able to share your running with her was better than any PR ever could be. However, I'm glad you got both!

Congratulations butterfly princess.

thank you again.

What a delightful report! And a great race! Maybe you are becoming a Fun Racer?? Congrats on the PR and negative splits (and all with a goat head in your shoe). You are clearly a wonderful person. I hope our paths cross some day.

dear sistah mariposai,
it is you who are the inspiration, teaching and reminding us of the joy we need in our running and our lives. thank you for being a part of mine. that was a lucky young man who got to share a few miles with you, and i know just how arf felt to have you hook your arm in hers - that's how we crossed the finish together in okanogan in my first 10K.

a wonderful RR, a delight to read, and a reminder to all of us about the joy that you bring, and we need, in our lives.

i'm starting to really get into the idea of our HM in wenatchee next april despite the white stuff on the ground out there
