(Cliff Notes)Instead of writing another course description, there are many outstanding RR's that have been posted. I'll get right to the point. Fashion Statement: Black compression shorts, Black long sleeve tech shirt, Marathon Maniac "yellow" singlet, white "26.2 miles and still smiling ball cap, NB 767 tires. Started with a throwaway sweatshirt (mile 2) and gloves (mile 5). Weather: 36 degrees at the 8:15 start warming into the low 40's, mostly sunny, with a little fog 20 minutes into the race. Light winds. Finish time: gun 3:50:10, chip 3:49:48 Sex: 469/1232 AG: 28/346 Had a good first half, but around mile 16, I started with calf camps which moved to the quads on the hills which moved to the hammy's on the final downhills. So I took the second half very easy, walking some of the ups and all the water areas. It was a wonderful day to run in a scenic city and I had a great time. And I just found out I beat Erika by 2 seconds.. Never even saw her attempt to pass me at the finish. But unknowingly, my crawl to the line held her off. The Boomer gathering was something I will not soon forget. In fact I had nightmares last night. All I can remember was something about getting run over in the dark by a Horse that had just flown in from Kosovo. ------------------ Good running!!! Mike's Profile

Grrr! If I'd known you were in front of me I would've pushed a bit harder! Oh well, it was very close. And it seemed there was a lot of cramping going on all over on this course. While I was waiting for Mariposai I overheard a couple of (much younger...) runners complain about it... It was a gorgeous day and I'm so glad I did it. Thanks for being there, Mike. And it was fun seeing you and your beautiful DW at dinner, too. Next time...------------------ evanflein

Does a back spasm count as a cramp?Nice job fighting through it. That brilliant sun really takes it out of you. It won't happen again. ------------------ -Andy Competing in 5Ks and HM's My running/writing blog: http://blog.dawnsrise.com/2007/10/running-gear.html PS it's iapetus NOT Lapetus

Hi mike,Nice finishing time for a race with a cramp-filled final 10 miles! I'm glad you had a good time (except for the cramping) in the race and at the B-gathering. Don't worry, the nightmares will fade with time... Jay

The Maniacs seem always to persevere through everything, and I imagine you have run other races where you were either fatigued or in discomfort, given how many you do. Great job. Spareribs

It was great sitting with you and runrwife at dinner, swapping maniacal stories and assuming DH was some boytoy Econo picked up on the streets.I'm sorry the race didn't go exactly how you wished, but you still ran well. There must have been something about the weather that caught us off guard and caused so many of us to cramp up. Or maybe (hmmmm...) someone slipped a cramp-a-lot drug into our drinks at dinner. See you at the next PNW Boomer party! -Dove

I hope your nightmares are over by now. What a great time you had in this race regardless of the nasty calf cramps you got. You are a strong runner Mike. I am glad you and Runnerwife moved to the PNW so we can see you more often. It was so great seeing you both at the Pink Door. I just wish I was sitting right next to guys instead of being given the "chore" of keeping eye on the rogues. Happy running...and congrats on the great race.

Mike, really a great time despite the cramps...your last half sounded exactly like mine. I am still laughing at Doves response re: the cramp-a-lot-drugs in our drinks! It was great to finally meet you and Sue, now you know I'm not Daves "imaginary" friend! I wish we had more time to talk, but hopefully just the 4 of us can get together for dinner sometime soon. Congrats on toughing this one out. arf

...my thoughts exactly! too bad about the cramping rassmp; you're certainly better prepared than your time here suggests. next time you attend a boomer gathering, just do what i do... pretend to eat and drink. you can laugh in extra loud bursts and spray the drink all over the wall... people will never suspect a thing. better wishes for your next race.

Nice racing, rassmatass! And a great report especially the fashion section. I suppose with chip timing, you might never see Erika and still be within seconds of each other's finish time.I do am suspicious of dark strangers being there, and so many cramps at the race! <squint eyes>

Glad you had a fun time despite the cramps. Maybe the cramps were a reaction to that unusual bright shining thing up in the sky. Sounds like you are adjusting to the PNW Boomer scene well. Race on!Skip

racemussen - especially with the sunshine that seems to have been associated with your first SM, we were delighted to welcome you and runrwfe to the SM in your opening year of PNW marathons. However, you're not supposed to be so fast to miss the goddess queens along the way. We may have to check the tapes to believe that one.
