Way to go Erika. What an animal--4 marathons in 4 months. That's more than half of what I've done in 29 years.7th out of 402 in AG--impresssive. Congratulations

3 BQs and if I remember the other one was up the side of a mountain. You are an amazing runner. Congratulation on another excellent performance. Thanks for the pictures and a great report. jjj

Erika, Well done. Sounds like you ran a perfect race. YOu are an amazing runner. Sorry about the foot cramp, make sure and baby it. I take my gu out right before the water stop, rip it open, and tuck it in my tank top. This makes for pretty easy access.

Erika, nice run. don't you just love it when you are stashing minutes away in the first half and feeling great, then again later when you realize you are not going to crash and have to finish on your hands and knees? See you at Boston, CAIgr

Four marathons in four months is very impressive. This race report (and photos) of Boomer meetings makes me think all the fun is out west....not to mention a good number of Boomer godesses.Clearly there was a moment in time when all Boomers wanted to be Dark Horse.....but perhaps that time has now passed.

Oh, I am SO jealous! You get to go to ANOTHER super fun Boomer gathering AND get to snuggle with Dark Stud, too? Jeesh – you west coast Boomers get all the fun... Congratulations on your PR, 3rd BQ this year, 4th marathon in 4 months – WOW, chick-let, you are on a roll! 7th out of 402 inn AG is fabulous, too! Maybe you and I can both hit that 3:45 at Boston.

Erika, you are incredibly strong to run that well on Sunday after all you've asked of your legs the past few months. (La de da. Another BQ. ) Excellent running! I have no fuel-reaching suggestions. I struggle getting my gunk out of my pockets, too. I think it just goes with the territory. At least it temporarily distracts us. Great to see you again. See you in a few weeks. Great race and PR, Erika! I gotta believe that the 3:45 is just around the corner ...and with that, I'm betting an AG award too! I've actually started taking each GU 2-3 minutes before I reach a water station so I don't have to eat & drink at the same time. I eat the GU first and then pick up a cup of water to wash it down, all while running and not having to stop. Seems to work really well for me. I used to waste a lot of energy and time trying to do too much at once. I also use a water belt and put my gels in one zippered area separate from the rest ...I find it easier to get them out that way. Continued healthy running! Totally awesome effort! Congratulations! Glad you mentioned the Seward Park loop, where I had done much running in my youth. What a fantastic trip you had, meeting all those boomers, too. Wow!

Steve, yep, I'm marathon maniac #685... I blame it all on Tet. It's a strange club, but a lot of fun. Thanks for the comments everyone, it was really a good race. I'm back in Seattle now on a hotel connection, and driving in from the airport was such a sense of Deja Vu.... pretty funny.JJJesse, the run up the mountain was the Equinox... definitely NOT a BQ course! I figure if I get the Gu/capsule thing down I'll shave off another couple of minutes, but so far it still gets me fuddled up at least once on the course! ------------------ evanflein

Erika, congratulations on a successful race... it sounded like you were on your way to really smash your PR until mile 18 happened but you pulled through it anyway and had a great weekend besides. I love all the photos, you guys look great.

Erika, my snow speedy queen!!! It was so great seeing you again in Seattle. I must admit that our "slumber party" was one of the highlights of my weekend. Paul was so proud of you as he cheered you on the race course. He told the bystanders..."she is my friend and she is speedy".Just talking with you the day of the race I knew you were going to own this one also. You truly are one well educated boomer in the art of running. In the short hours I spent with you I learned more about running as a women than all my years of running and learning put together. You are my star and I hope you know it. Thanks for cheering me, Tet and Arf up to the finish line. ------------------ "It also hit me afresh that in the Marathon, everyone who finishes is a winner in their own rite" Vista [This message has been edited by mariposai (edited Nov-27-2007).]

Erika ....what can I say, you are an incredible runner, a gorgeous woman, intelligent and so confident. Congrats on super-sonic race and your THIRD BQ! Can I buy one of those?I had SUCH a great time meeting and getting to know you. It was weird how on so many subjects, we thought exactly alike. It was neat to just cruise through the expo with you and also right after the race, trying to find a bottle of water amidst all that coffee was just about impossible! Really fun to just hang out together. I wish we lived closer together. your friend, arf...(thinking seriously about the Equinox)

Erika – I was looking at your race times again and will tell you (again) that you are a much faster runner than I am – your 5-mile PR is a whole 3 minutes faster! I continue to believe that you should be able to kick my butt at the marathon distance as well. At Boston, if we are in the same corral, I may tie a rope around you and act as an anchor to slow you down in those early downhill miles, just to keep you from jackrabbiting out and then blowing up at mile #18.

nice race evanflein! looks like your training came together in seattle... bodes well for boston.re: gels... it's just practice practice practice for me. i took them on long runs. i practiced with them on fast runs. nothing like trying to open and gulp down a gel during a 5 mile time trial when your pals start hammering down a hill to get you faster with the process. buy a couple of boxes and practice with them in all sorts of situations.... you'll figure out a system. but 4 marathons in 4 months???? aye aye aye. just don't start doing a relay a month, please...

Mr. Mariposai It was good to meet you Erika (aka the Blond Bombshell from Alaska) even though I had to battle Seattle traffic and a maze of one-way streets to do it. (I am not a big city kind of guy). Congrats on the PR. I have to say that it does not surprise me. You were looking pretty good at the top of the Galer hill! What a greta way your DH supported you with the upgrade. He sounds like a someone I would like to meet some day.[This message has been edited by mariposai (edited Nov-29-2007).]
