This was my first Turkey Trot. It was an 8K (4.97 miles)
There were a record number of participants this year and it supposedly sold out. Starting temps...around 65F and sunny. Just a beautiful morning.

Fashion Report:
Target charcoal/orange short sleeve tech top.
Target black running shorts with pockets to hold my license and car key.
Blue & white Saucony Hurricane 8's
Bonefish taupe Buff

The start was very confusing....I didn't see any mat to record the chip start time so I just hit my Garmin under the Start sign and off I went. I still don't know how they figured everyone's starting time.
It was very congested for the first 1/4 mile and I just about had to resort to walking at the start...I finally got past the mass of humanity and got into a smooth steady pace, albeit faster than I'm used to running.

The course was a little hilly but I'm used to running hills so I felt comfortable and at an advantage.
Below is elevation and split times. I actually managed to run a 7:57 split coming back up the hill at the finish...woohoo!
I might have had a better time if the start hadn't been so congested. I was aiming for a sub 40 minute race but I'm very happy with my first attempt.
The time is unofficial as it's not posted on the website yet but that's what my Garmin reports.

Unofficial Results: 5 miles in 40.51 (8:10 pace)

Splits:

8:29 (a lot of traffic here)
7:53
8:12
8:17
7:57

ELevation:

Good job. Historically, all Turkey Trot races bring all kinds of people, and the start is therefore confusing and slow. Who knows, maybe you would be under 40 in a small race with a quick start. Well done. Spareribs

Nice racing Peter! Given the hills and congested start, you could easily do sub-40 pace. Sometimes on small to mid-size races, they just use gun start/chip finish. Not very fair to folks not near the start but that's the way it goes. Glad you had fun.

Peter - I learned, after 2 years of our local Turkey Trot, to line up closer to the front, due to all the walkers and congestion. But you still did great, even with the hills and crowd. Great job!

Peter, great race. I'm sure the congestion and hills prevented the sub 40. You got close for your first attempt. You had the exact same weather as we had. Really draws the crowds!
Congratulations on a great race!

Peter, go ahead and trample the walkers who feel the need to start up front. It sounds like a nice race.

A little late in getting to your RR, but congrats on a fine run! IMO, you can easily run a sub-40, 5-mile race, probably well under 40. You train well and lol, you do run a lot of hills! Continued good running, Peter!

Great job Peter! You should run a Turkey Trot every year. I think you are a natural. Nice fashion report too.
