5K Turkey Trot

1st Goal – beat my PR of 28:45
2nd Goal – anything better than 30 minutes

Fashion Report:

Mizuno Shoes (teal and white)
Black Brooks Thermal Pants
Maroon mock neck Under Armor Shirt
Black Under Armor Gloves
Black Pony Tail Hat

This race takes place at a middle school. You run through the woods, out onto the soccer field and around the perimeter of that and make the loop twice. I find it difficult to run on the wet leaves, uneven ground, etc. so I knew that beating my PR of 2 years ago was pretty iffy as that was a road race.

First mile – 9:02 – that is pretty darn good for me.
2nd mile – 9:22 – still faster than my normal (9:30ish) but I’m slowing down
3rd mile – 9:26 – about average
Now this is where it gets tricky. My garmin marked the 3.11 miles at 28:49 – just shy of my PR. The actual mat time was 29:15 – 3.17 miles.

Either way it was a fun race. I placed 4th in my age group. My neighbor ran this with me and placed 1st in her “young” 24 year old age group! She won a kewl turkey trophy.

Thanks for reading!!

Cheers!
~Mary

Edited to add that I did win a door prize - 6" sub at SubWay - so I'm not a total looser!!

Mary - not quite a PR, but pretty darn close, and 4th AG is very kewl! Well done!

You are never a loser - just to be able to run a 5K makes you stronger than 99% of the population. And I love Subway.

You did great, hopeful. 4th in AG and almost a PR. You definitely would have been faster on roads. Congratulations.

Running trails this time of year is tricky and you pulled it off pretty well. As no one can eat a trophy and subway rocks, you get the better end of the deal.

Enjoyed the report! You did great!

Sounds like you should have won an award for the fashion too, color scheme was very appropriate for late autumn, no?

4th in AG is awesome, I can only dream of that when I race.

I'll assume that the Subway sandwhich will be turkey?...

Trail is slower than road so in a way you did PR. Nice running.

Today was Thanksgiving? Where's my turkey dinner?

Good run, Mary. You should consider this separately as a "trail PR" and keep training for your next road PR. Did you celebrate with a turkey sub at Subway?

I think you ran great! Trails and grass are easier on the body but they definitely slow you down. Enjoy that sammich!

Thanks for all the greta comments! I'm taking your advise on Trail PR's vs Street PR's. So taking that into consideration:

2006 Turkey Trail 5K = 31:58
2007 Turkey Trail 5K = 29:15

I'd say that's a pretty good improvement.

Congratulations.

That is a great improvement over the race a year ago.

Thanks for a nice report.

Watch the fine print on that Subway certificate. You probably have to order a large drink for $10.

Nice race, Mary! Nice improvement over last year too! It is tough running on wet leaves. One member of our group slipped on wet leaves this year and broke her arm ...gotta be careful.

Mary,

Great race. You got under 30 minutes which was one of your goals. Way to go. Thanks for your support over the last few months.

Regards
Tall
