OK, this one is kind of late for me -- didn't have internet access in Des Moines because I was too cheap. So, plan going into this was as follows: Goals: 1. Finish still healthy -- Check 2. 2:49:59 -- Check 3. 2:44:59 -- Strike -- see below 4. 2:42:59 -- Strike -- see below So, plan was to go out conservatively through mile 8 since all the hills occurred during that time. Execution? PERFECT!!!! So, time to take a little self inventory. Are we going to be able to pick it up as planned? Not today!!! Saw my coach and he thought I was 3rd in the masters -- keep trying to pick people off. Steadily moving up. Passed the runnner I thought won last year at mile 16 (I was wrong) and kept passing people even though I was slowing down!!! So, end results as follows: First half -- 1:23:53 2nd Half -- 1:25:54 Was hoping for a negative split -- not in the cards! However, think I passed at least 15 runners in the second half and 30 plus overall!!! Photos: 100 yards from the finish: The results: 2:49:47 = 14/1,428 overall 1/121 in the 40-44 AG... As Ice Cube said -- It was a good day! [This message has been edited by hermosaboy (edited Oct-22-2007).]

Holy crap Hermosa boy! 1st Ag! Great job! I am honored to be a bottle holder.Your splits are actually perfect. Some stuff I have read claims that perceived negative splits is the way to go. It "feels" negative split, but in reality is slightly positive. That's you! Nice job! Criag

1st masters! Hooray! Way to mow down the "slowniks" in the 2nd half (your split wasn't THAT negative).

Well, of course you look fresh. Most of us are out there a HECK of a lot longer, so we naturally look haggard. Wow, nicely done, hermosaboy. Congratulations. Fun pics!

1/121 in the 40-44 AG...2:49:47 = 14/1,428 overall........Awesome- Hermosa! You are definetely da man! I have to agree with the PFD I think splits were perfect....it's the perceived negative split (effort seems harder, pace slows a tad) that makes the splits so good. Get some much deserved rest, then start racking them up again Also congrats on the PR..... Paul------------------ Patriotsr1 my log

Wow, just wow. And I love the shorts (and hey, the top matches!)... very nicely done all around. Thanks for the pics, they speak volumes. Now when I run my next marathon, and I'm barely coming up on mile 18 or so, I'm gonna think "Gee, Hermosaboy would be done by now!" Thanks.------------------ evanflein

13 people beat you? What's up with that?Seriously though, way to go. It sounds as though you planned it all out, and the execution couldn't have been any better. You rock, my friend! ------------------ Lil Engine (aka Welsh Pony) "I think I can, I think I can"
