Mark, I hate to break this to you, but I checked the "Best by" date on that dust, and it had, um, expired. So you truly finished that final 6.2 under your own power ... and I do mean "power." What a comeback from last year and the ITB woes. You really did execute the plan perfectly, and to keep with it while in Japan ... well, I'm not sure many of us would have done the same, what with the time change and work commitments. Congratulations on the huge PR on Marathon #2. Enjoy the R&R, have some of your favourite sushi, and come back refreshed; you certainly earned it.

Congratulations, Mark. It sounds like you planned and executed perfectly. Way to push through the hard miles at the end.

Very impressive. A PR, goal met, even splits. You knew it would be tough, and it was, but you held on. Congratulations.------------------ Fortunate--a volleyballer with a running problem Profile

Great job I only wish I could have been there at the finish. I'll just say I had some real issues after I saw you at 14 miles. I will post a report later. Great job and I'll see you around Marathon Derrick------------------

hey markguy, congrats on your new pr! it sounds like you nailed it, and that two mile sprint showed that you were running right on the edge, right where you needed to be. do the next set of miles with smiles and you'll rachet that time lower.

Hey, wait a minute. We took a break together last year, and I don’t remember it? Did we have coffee? I totally understood what you meant my mentally grabbing your pacer’s singlet and holding on – that’s the way I felt in my Sept. race. The pace group can be a real life-saver – I’m a total fan of that now. But I didn’t get a kewl tattoo...But even with the help of Pacer Tom, the real toughness came from within you. Great job on toughing it through and achieving a huge PR! ------------------ Holly

Mark, do you mind if I bump this? (I'm sorry, I just keep getting steadily more behind.) I think I may keep a copy, (am starting collections) because I really like the way you're approaching this marathon training business.I'm so happy this turned out so well, especially after last year, & your injury. When you said you just barely trained enough, do you think it was just the right amount for this year? As in, if it had been more, do you think you might have gotten injured again? You did so well. This is very inspiring to me. Congratulations. & Thanks! :-) You write a very nice report. If I ever am in a race that I'm willing to admit to, I may hire one of you guys to write mine.

Hey, Mark! Just got to your RR now. Congratulations on a great race and getting under that 3:55 goal. That's quite an achievement ...and improvement over your first marathon time.I think you're on the right track with wanting to do more mileage and some speedwork. I had very similar mileage to yours for my second to last marathon. This fall I upped my average mileage to around 45-50 mpw with 4 peak weaks of 60+. I also got some advice on correct pacing based on my fitness level and did two speed sessions a week (one tempo/LT and one interval/VO2Max). This did wonders for my fitness and to bring down my time. You just have to make sure you train smart and avoid injuries. Good luck in your future running. Enjoy the memories from Detroit. I ran Detroit two years ago and was remembering all the landmarks you mentioned, including the smelly tunnel. PJ
