We did it! . This morning's 3 miler was the last of our series of 6 pub races. It kept us racing since it started in April and covered pub races of lengths from 3 miles to 10K in Ma. and Maine. The weather was fantastic for all the races. Having run all 6 and being subscribers to the regional running magazine we earned jackets and a free dinner (for which we'll be away ). There are also 'standings' for those who ran 5 out of 6 races. I've ended up 4th in my age group and Marj 2nd. Of course, beer and food have been plentiful. This 3 miler was only 6 miles from home and flat. The weather was in the high 60's and sunny. So, we both wore singlets. As usual, we started together and Marj, as she has been doing lately, zoomed ahead. I kept a steady 10 minute mile and felt good. My finish was 30:24 in a very competitive field. Last week I was much slower in my half and finished 2nd in the division. This week all the fast 70 year olds turned out and I ended up 8th out of 10th. Nevertheless I was happy with my time. Marj is getting faster each time she races. She ended up at 27:49 and 3rd out of 13-WOW! She says she's 'pleased with her time'. Having raced practically every weekend since early September, we're taking a well deserved rest until our next race on Thanksgiving Day. Now we can just run for fun, cycle and (tomorrow) kayak.

Hooray for the pub series! You guys totally rock. I would gladly go to the free dinner in your place, but I am too far away. Congratulations to both of you, and I am so glad that you are getting your speed back. You will need it to catch that speedy Marj.

It was good to see you two yesterday. Congrats to Marj for her 2nd place finish! What a beautiful day for a race - warm, but not too hot. Ted had his 50th! year high school reunion in New Jersey this weekend, and it was close on the timing to drive back Sunday in time for the race, since it's about a 4 1/2 hour drive from New Jersey, but we decided to give it a try because it's right off the Mass Pike and didn't start until 11:30. So we left bright and early (on second thought, scratch the bright; it was still pitch black at 5:30 AM) and got to Newton about 10:15, and we had plenty of time for the race. Not very fast times because we were pretty stiff from driving so long, not to mention over-eating and under-sleeping in Jersey at the reunion, but a lot of fun neveretheless!

Hip hip hooray! Congrats to both you and Marj. Is there a web site for this series? I've never heard of it, but any event that links racing with beer sounds like something I need to get involved with. I'm glad you got to take advantage of the gorgeous weather yesterday! --Robin

beer as always flowed liberally, but you had to drink it in the pub, not on street.website: nerunner.com - it's their series and lots of fun mary - even after a drive, you're always a fashionista in your fall colors! (I've been told I have to fess up - Marj)

Robin I add my recommendation to henrun's for not only the series but the magazine as well. It has lots of info not only on running in general, but on the local running scene. You can get the magazine at a lot of local running stores including Bill Rodgers Running Cemnters, Marathon Sports, etc. and subscribe from the website as well http://www.nerunner.com/magazine/subscribe.html I've run the complete Pub series 4 times, and even when we have a conflict and can't make the whole series, Mr T and I go to as many of the races as we can because they are a lot of fun! Hope to see you at some of them next year.
