I'm going to try and make this a quickie because there are soooooo many fantastic RR's this weekend that I need to reply to.My marathon finish time...4:18 This was without a doubt, one of the most beautiful trail marathons I have ever run. The weather was perfect, the aid stations were well stocked....bevy's were icy cold, nice hard packed dirt trail and gorgeous scenery. The last few months I had been working hard on trying to get a nasty IT band injury under control and I guess all the pampering paid off because it seemed to be healing well and allowed me to run a decent time at this marathon with very little speed work under my belt. Dave and I met up in Reno on Saturday and stayed at a hotel where we had way too much fun eating, drinking, and gambling. He showed me how to play craps, roulette, blackjack and poker and we actually managed to make a little money...unfortunately not enough to retire on, which was originally the plan... oh well. We met and chatted with some really nice people, every one was so friendly. One in particular was a 24 year old fire fighter, running this on almost no training...she finished in just over 4 hours. Very up-beat, strong, athletic girl... I loved her happy, carefree attitude...I think Dave got a photo of us together... maybe I can get him to post it for me. After Dave's incredible finish, I later found out that he managed to meet up with Choovie and Mr. Choovie before they had to dash off. I was really sorry I didn't get a chance to see them. I ran this race as a stepping stone forward in my quest for a BQ. Since Boston 08' is on my birthday, we thought it would be really fun to be there and meet so many boomer friends. We are presently throwing around the idea of a February marathon in FL, which would give me at least 16 weeks to get some quality training in. I arrived home totally exhausted after several days with only a handful of hours of sleep and incredibly sore cheeks from laughing so hard. No BQ yet, but an insanely fun, unforgettable weekend. Thanks for reading... arf

Arfley, Look into Rocket City, 08 December, 2007... The r.s. and I ran Tampa, February, 2005. A flat course but it can get warm... It had a 0600 start time in 2005, I LOVED that! I think I slept through the first hour although my feet were moving well. (4:22, not my best but very good for me)I loved your Bizz Johnson report, nice running and fun times! (Very sorry you didn't meet the Choovies! They are so much fun. Easy-going and charming couple, fine dinner companions) ~Rose

From the photos on Cheryl's report, this really does look like a stunning race. You ran well and hopefully this will be a stepping stone to the BQ you want. Good luck!

I wonder how long it'll be before DarkHorse shows up and comments that the title of this thread misled him . . . Nice report Arf and wonderful time on a beautiful course. I'm so glad your IT issues didn't resurface, sounds like you got it under control. ------------------ Tamalina

Arf! Was sorry to not meet you in Seattle, but it was great to meet Dave at Pink Door... Maybe next time... For that BQ, I second MC's suggestion. I have a friend who ran PF Chang and he said it was easier than Bay State (which I hear lots of people use to BQ). Nice to hear the IT band is behaving... Sounds like you had a fun weekend, now go catch up on sleep and work on that BQ!------------------ evanflein

Arf, sounds like you and Dave had a wonderful time. Again! Haven't yet read Dave's report, but a marathon all on trail sounds wonderful. I'm glad to hear that ITB is feeling better. You'll get that BQ. There's Carlsbad, too ...

Sounds strangely similar to our weekend in Portland. arf, I saw the pics in choovie's report. Beautiful! One of these days, I'd love to run the trails with you. Oh, yeah, and there's still that Pink Door date. First, go get that BQ and let's get together in Boston!

Can't believe DH hasn't chimed in with the name of your post.... but I digress. arf, you are going to BQ your first attempt. Lord knows you have the mileage thing down pat. Excellent time for you and hope you get your early BD present. So, does that mean you'll get the advantage of a new AG since your birthday is on race day? Check it out! glidegal

I think you're too young to gamble, young lady! (Why am I not surprised the diving riverboat captain is a card shark? Tell us, does he wear one of those green eyeshade visors?)So glad you are on the mend and having lots of fun. Hope to see you soon (but not with the monkeys.) grins, A

One of my disappointments this weekend was not having enough time to get to greet you at the finish -- those darn flight schedules! I'm sure we'll get another chance down the road to meet. I am glad to hear you had an enjoyable weekend and that your ITB issue is under control. Good luck on your BQ quest! You'll do it! ------------------ choover

I second this! Had disappointing Des Moines two years ago and went to Rocket City and had a quantum leap performance. Nice small town race, fair course and personal attention!!! HIGHLY recommended!!!
