Mustang Sally just laughed at me because I crawled across the hotel room floor to answer a telephone call.OK, I loved this marathon, especially the first half. I was aiming for a 4:10, but with sketchy training, was quite confused about what pace to select. 1st half, 1:59:xx (OK, too fast). But fun. I got to run with SS! 2nd half, 2:23 and very painful indeed. I walked mile 25 entirely. Final time was about 4:22, one minute slower than my PR. oooohhh welllllll. The aftermath was frightening, as I wanted to lie down in a gutter, but SS guided me slowly the 15 or so blocks to the hotel. Thank you SS! I am sitting up and taking nourishment now. Glidegal gave me Goetze caramels last night! Mustang Sally was an absolute hoot in her pank fairie costume (she bandited the last 5 miles, entertaining all and scaring some kids, too!). Lessons for me are: * Know thy pace * Stick to it for at least 18 miles * Get my base mileage up....23 mpw average doth not a marathoner make.

Congratulations on making it anyway. The fun you had with the gang out there will overshadow the time. Besides, that was a decent time. I am taking note of your problems with the low mileage because I am looking to try my first Marathon with low weekly mileage. Decision time coming for me. Thanks for the report.....enjoy the after affects of your race. ------------------ vista129

Aw, (((Econo))).If you ran only one minute off your PR with a base of 23 mpw, you done darn good. Especially if you walked quite a bit toward the end. With more mileage, if you maintain your first-half pace to the end, that's a 3:58 BQ. I find your result encouraging, and I think you will, too, when you recover. Sans Souci, thank you for taking care of one of our favorite Boomer goddesses in her hour(s) of need. Dark Horse ------------------ I'm a dark horse, running on a dark race course

Econo, tough race, but 9 months ago you weren't running and 5 days ago you were getting sick, so this is quite an accomplishment. Your mileage has been increasing so you are sure to be ready for the next one. Pain aside, it sounds like a great weekend!

Econo, I'm so glad you ran Portland because it's always great to see you. I wish it would have been better for you, but I think you understand what happened. When you build up just a little bit more base, you'll be rockin'!

Hi Econo, great job on your marathon and on 23 miles per week! Larry------------------ "If you see a man running up a mountain trail in Montana with a fly pole attached to his back, you are probably lost. LDD

You did well, Econo. To be within one minute of your PR after 26.2 miles is nothing to feel bad about. It sounds like the company was great and that you had a good time. Congratulations.TomS ------------------ My Profile

Nice job of getting to that finish line. Just up that mileage a bit, and the 4:10 will come easily. Good going.

Econo - 4:22 is nothing to sneeze at. What a team you had - SS to keep you on your feet, Gildeggal supplying you with Goetze caramels and Mustang Sally in a pink fairy costume has got to be worth running many miles for - nice of you to amuse her with your antics this morning!

I'm with the others, you didn't blow it, and certainly on more mpw's you could BQ. Sounds like you had some fun admist the pain. And that is really the more important element here.

Econo, that's a great accomplishment, even if it's not what you really wanted. It sounds like your crew made it enjoyable.I hope your foot and the rest of you recover quickly.

Econo,Congratulations on a great marathon. Well, you learned some lessons but you had some fun. So it was a success. I know exactly how hard that second half was for you as in my last marathon I lost quite a bit of time too and it was PAINFUL. Way to go. Recharge your batteries and go again. So glad you had a good time with the crew. Tall

Econo,Tough as nails! Crawling across the room to get the phone! Seriously, you did tough it out. Great first half. I claim that you learn more from gong out for what you're after and failing than by sitting back and bringing in a mediocre effort. Ideal conditions may have helped. Higher weekly mileage may have helped. Longer and a few more long runs may have helped. Better hydration. Not keeping up with SS in the bar may have helped (just kidding on that one). I'm proud of you. 1 minute off your best. Nothing to sneeze at. Where to from here? Don't make decisions or set goals this week. Relax. -CAighr

You might not have had the race you wanted, but I think you had the fun you wanted out of the weekend! Sounds like you all had a great time, per usual. And I still think your time was good! How I'd love a 4:20ish marathon!------------------ Tamalina

I'll say that you did OK. And your attitude right now demonstrates something I'm coming to realize: how you feel about a marathon after you finish has little correlation to how fast you ran it. Just kind of random. If you want to get back on the horse (dare I say Mustang?) I would be glad to pace you the whole way at Seattle. Just make sure someone is waiting for you at the finish line with a straitjacket... after 3+hours with hippo... Recover well. You ran well today. FWIW, my time today was 15 minutes slower than at Newport this year. So if you subtract 15 minutes from your time...

Econo-grrrl, you are my heroine in cowboy boots. I'm guessing next time you'll be able to hold, hold, hold that pace all the way through with the right preparation.

You rock Econo, you had a great time and learned some lessons. Take Hippo up on his offer of a pacer What is this about keeping up with SS in the bar? That's my job!

Now I see what the problem was. Econo! Running shoes for marathons, not cowboy boots! One minute off the PR is pretty awesome gal. Congrats to ya! Skip

I only WISH I could run that time on the regular amount of miles... You did it on 23 a week? I totally bow to you! While sorry it didn't go as you'd hoped, there's a lot of strength in you to pull that off! Plus as the others said, having fun is huge as well! Nice work!
