My RR for Ribs. After your Kickrunner comments on the 50 thread, no way I'm taking a chance on incurring your wrath. Feel the love, man.

First, big thanks to mc for giving the following advice:

1. Don't let anyone pass in the last 4 miles - Check
2. Average out the times on my 3 H2C legs and try to hit that target (7:16) - Errrrrrr ... just aboooot!

Up at 5 a.m. for toast, coffee, shower and to take in the beauty of the early morning. How can this not inspire?

My last HM was in March, just before Boston, when I had a PR 1:32.59. I'm not in the same condition -- yet -- so I'm thinking 1:35-1:40.

First half had a fair headwind; for the most part, surface was asphalt bike path. I found a few of the dipsy doodles around railway track and intersections a bit disconcerting. At about the 4k mark I caught up to a woman whose name I would soon discover was Holly (are all Hollys attractive?) and stayed with her for the balance of the race. We had the same cadence and I enjoyed having someone beside me (we didn't talk, Econo). My legs felt less than fresh (everything else was willing!)

(Garmin) 4:30/k,46,43,39,43,45,43,31,30,37

Felt just okay at the half and looking forward to the return. More shade and a tad more scenic. Oh, and downhill to look forward to. One interesting bit was a single-file-only tunnel under the Island Highway. Holly started to get away from me a bit when I would take water; she had a fuel belt and kept chugging away.

At the overpass heading east to the finish, it was music row. The first band, The Tragically Whipped, really lifted my mood. I yelled "Yeah!" and gave them a big thumbs up. Thereafter, some young kids in a jazz band (thumbs up). Thankfully, I had things to keep my mind on the task: Holly, another woman, and a man. The two women caught up to the man. He surged after that. I thought, One of us simply must catch him.

Final k, tired now, I tried to push the pace. A little nervous about going too early and getting caught by Holly and Woman 2, I got on the man's shoulder. He surged. Hmm. Turned the last left and the race is ON!!!!

Did she do it?

Well, no. He nipped me at the finish, durn it. But I did congratulate him. I also found Holly and told her I enjoyed running with her.

4:09,22,39,41,38,22,18,27,32,10,20

Time: 1:35.52 (7:18/m or 4:32/k)
5th AG40-49, 13th Female Overall

(I think I was 9th AG when they had me listed as a man; we did get that changed.)

I think this is okay for where I'm at in training right now. I didn't stay for the awards/draws as I had to work. Two years ago, I won a draw prize: a fetching 6x4 roll of grey industrial carpet (!)

Thanks for reading.

great job scouchi! very even pacing given the terrain (a little hilly? yup, you betcha... ) and nice racing there at the end. it's great to see some killer instinct coming out; way to make that dood earn it.

as for the legs feeling a little flat... ummm, one might be tempted to recall some sort of 5k workout at sub-7 minute pace that you did, ummm, what, like 2 days ago! we need to talk about tapering...

sorry to hear that you didn't win a another carpet. there's always next year.

Yeah! Nice racing, SS! That's a great time on a hilly course.

Um, I remember that 5K workout too.

Nice abs.

magnificient, metronomic splits give you a terrific time despite the monstrous 'little hill'...

great racing! I don't think you are as far away as you think-the conditioning is top notch, and on a more fair course, you may well be 1:32-33.

and the picture was simply mesmerizing---

congrats on a fine race

Nice race Sans Souci,

I will have to start paying closer attention to your RR's. I didn't realize you were such a fine runner. A 1:35:52 and you aren't even in your best condition. It prompted me to dig up your profile--closer to 50 than 40, heh? That makes it even more impressive You are running very well and should keep better records!

Well done

Very nice race, SS! Congrats! You're one fast runner. The pic is great too. I'll have to think about posting a pic. It saves typing up a fashion report.

For some reason your first two graphics weren't showing up on my screen, but that great last picture did. You are in great shape (you've got a six-pack!...I've got a keg) and are a fine runner. Very impressive on what I take (from the comments) was a hilly course. Congrats.

Run Score = A
Ab Score = A+
RR Score = B-*

(*The KR guy had it coming; he was whining. There is no whining in being a moderator.)

This is a terrific race given your condition and that course. You look fabulous too. You also noticed that I commented about that 5K workout just before the race; it may have taken some of the spring from your step, but you sure persevered. Very well done. Spareribs

Great race. I like the way you entertain yourself during a race. Especially the extra competition at the end. Great pic and yah, great abs.

SuperSonic,
Some day I want to run one mile at your speed!
WTG; and while the abs have drawn comments, I think the legs also deserve a very honorable mention.
(I think your form looks better than the man's at the finish)

Awww, didn't stay around for more grey carpet? Nice race and I have to agree your pacing is great especially considering those hills. Glad you beat Holly and at least you gave catching the guy a shot.

As for the man thing -- wait till H2C gets wind of this...

STOP READING THIS REPORT...This person is an imposter, although she cleverly posted the fabulous picture our own SS who may be hidden in a basement somewhere....
Did you not see the hidden cry for help?

SS is a Luddite--- this fraud mentioned a Garmin.

Please let us know what you want to get our Trop Souci back. We love her and want to see more RRs like this!

OK, everyone falls all over themselves to say nice things about Sans Souci, so it looks like I'm the only person who is going to comment on the baseball cap.

Unless you are Dave Wottle, don't wear a cap when you run. Not even when it's raining. As Tom Hanks might say, "There are no caps in running!" The only exception is if it's below 20 degrees F (below 30 degrees F if you're a wimp). Even then, you can only wear a knit cap, not a baseball cap. Baseball caps really don't look good on anyone except baseball players.

Just for the record, "wimp" is not spelled "whimp" as some people here seem to think.

I can't think of anything else grouchy to say at the moment, but I'll get back you if I think of something.

SS,

You deserved to beat that guy! His form was nowhere near as good as yours.

Nice pacing on what looks like a hilly course. Tapering is overrated, BTW. Don't listen to MC.

Dark Horse - insanity has returned to the forum! Thanks.

SS- great race. I too love your killer instincts. And I'll wager #217 doesn't have a six pack to show off.
