Well, our team wasn't as fast as JohnMass', but we still had a great time. I think you got most of the background from John, so I will just go with the specifics.Going into the race we were trying to get a competitive team and a fun run team both together. Unfortunately, we ended up having to combine the two teams due to a lack of runners. We still had some people that were going to hammer (and boy did they) and we decided a nice goal would be top 50%. Short version -- 18/99 overall. 28:43:16 for an avg pace of 8:16/mi. Now for some details...
Here are the members of Van 1 (the chilli peppers) before the race: BTW -- those glasses do cause hallucinations!!! I was given the task of running legs 5, 17 and 29 (that's why I kept running into John)... Leg 5 was 6.10 miles MODERATE miles I covered it in 35:14 @ 166 (5:47/mi) with 4 road kill in the last 3 miles (I didn't see another runner for the first 3 miles). Here's me at the finish: Here's how MN RED hydrates after Van 1 completed our first set of legs: Leg 17 was listed as VERY HARD and was 7.6 miles long: I covered this section in 45:42 @ 153 (6:01/mi) with 6 road kill. No photos since it was 1:45 am... Leg 29 was listed as moderate (yeah right) and was 7.2 miles long: I covered this section in 44:44 @ 154 (6:13/mi) with 8 road kill. Here's me at the finish: Total for my sections -- 20.90 miles in 2:05:40 (6:01/mi). A VERY fun experience -- just don't make me do it again for at least 360 days... Thanks for Reading!!! aye carumba hermosa, those times are just simply amazing; you are in incredible shape. from the pics i'm guessing two of your legs weren't in the cooler parts of the day either, making your pace even hotter! i like that carb loading plan too... ...and, umm, i happened to notice that your team finished, err, like 30 places above your goal finish... nice.

You'd probably run even faster with the little wrist baton thingy we had at H2C. Scary fast.I'm fueling at the rest stop your way next time. Good move, hb.

Dang, hermosaboy, you aren't supposed to beat the van! Great job and great photos! Your team looks like a lot of fun too. Lucky for johnmaas' team, you guys didn't field a full fast team. Congratulations!

We had the wrist baton thingy too -- but I would take it of about 100 yards before the finish to pass it off...

Great job, hermosa. And man, you are really fast! I really like the look of those roads, too. Wish I could ride my bike on roads like that, with those really wide paved shoulders. ------------------ - Runnin' in Rochester Rochrunner

Wish I could run that fast in a 5K! Forget about it after no sleep and two prior legs. Great job.

Excellent report Hermosa!! I missed that aid station after the set of legs.... You ran amazingly fast (as always), I'm just glad that I wasn't one of your "roadkills". Your leg 17 was especially impressive, that first hill on that leg looked very difficult.... It was good to see you again. Keep up the fantastic work and don't lose sight of your 2:49:59 goal! John

KeeMan is a sophomore and ran 3rd for his team (5th overall) to help his team win their first race of the year. He was running for place and hit 17:58. CamScam is playing his final year of football and will join his brother in XC next year (he just doesn't have the size or the killer instinct needed for football).

Well done, as usual, HB. I'm with Skip; I wasn't sure that first picture was really you because I didn't see the trademark shorts. I guess one needs more than one pair in a relay.------------------ Fortunate--a volleyballer with a running problem Profile
