While not widely publicized, there is a 13.1 mile event in the Crim Fesitval of races. To participate you wait on the freeway for 30 minutes, park a mile from packet pickup, run to get your packet, run back to the car to change and then run back to the starting line, arriving as the gun sounds. Phew, what a warm up!As has already been described this race is hugh. I started in the front 1/3 and still waited 4 minutes to cross the starting line. Unfortunately hundreds of walkers crossed the starting line ahead of me and I dodged them the first mile. My goal for this race was simply to practice MP (9:00) and have fun. After a first mile of 10 right on the nose things loosened up a little and each mile got progressively faster with my final mile in 8:05. Final time 90 minutes and change. This year I again passed on Krispy Kremes, but I have to admit I had a couple swigs of beer at mile 4. I high fived spectators and ran though sprinklers. I saw Michigan WRFB, again! I saw Batman and Robin and a bride to be complete with a garter. She was getting married after the race. The support on the course for this race is amazing. Flint really turns out for this and there are people along the course the whole 10 miles. I met tselbs and rochrunner at the post race tent and we caught up a bit before the band got too loud. All in all not a bad way to spend a summer morning. Thanks for reading.

Hey MarkGuy, I bet you won that Crim HM! Good going. Nice job hitting the 10 miler right at your target. That's tough to do in a crowded race! This one sounds like fun. As I'm from Michigan, I'd like to try that one some year. Bill ------------------ Bill's Profile

The HM sounds like it was a lot of fun. Maybe you can try the FM next year! Congratulations on a fine race.

Mark, it was good to see you again, and too bad about the extra 3 miles. How come you didn't tell everyone that it was Dave's fault? Maybe next year you can run it competitively since your times are obviously coming way down these days.By the way, I just got done watching some of the World Track & Fields on channel 9. I watched the sprinters pretty carefully and picked up some pointers for next year's meet in AA. ------------------ - Runnin' in Rochester Rochrunner

Nice run there, MarkGuy. 90 minutes and change is quite good for a half marathon. Strange course though.

Hey, Markguy! I was aiming for a 9 min overall pace at Hood to Coast, too. (But I cheated and rested 10 hours between segments.) Well, ya done good. Nice negative splits (both you & roch).

Great job, Mark! Strong finish. This race sounds like fun; I really must do it sometime. It would be a great excuse to meet the Michigan Boomers, too! Your sprint to the starting line brought back memories...I had to do that in my first marathon. Not fun!

Mark, after visiting with you after the race, I immediately understood the HM in the title of your race report and it brought a smile to my face. You had a good race with a strong finish. Maybe the beer fueled the negative splits. It was nice seeing you again.TomS ------------------ My Profile

why would they keep something like this a secret? the regular old 10 miler just pales in comparison. . greta job, Mark! determination, mental agility, patience, (walkers ahead of you?!) & just good running. aided by proper hydration. No wonder your 18 miler Sunday was a little tough! When's Detroit? congratulaions. thanks for a fun report.

Some people just have to run to a different drummer don't they? So Markguy just couldn't run the same race/distance as everyone else. I think he should be fined. What would happen if everyone ran their own race and distance? Total chaos, I tell you. I think Markguy may be an anarchist. He bears watching. But seriously...Nice running! ------------------ My Profile "I think I can, I think I can"

Ha! MarkGuy you are a funny guy!Sounds to me like you are in great shape right now with each mile getting progressively faster. Way to frogger your way through the walkers too. But I can't believe you passed up the Vitamin KK's again this year..... Such will power! ------------------ choover

Oh geez, I'm so slow. But I do get there. I had to read the report twice to figure out how he did a HM in 90 minutes... Doh! I think it was the beer at mile 4... good plan! Sounds like a good morning, if not a bit hectic at times!------------------ evanflein

I have nightmares about pre-race situations like this. I'm glad you made it and got it done. Nice progression run--your training is really looking strong for Detroit. Thanks again for picking up my packet.

Great job! I thought the effect loud bands has on us is deflected by our age related hearing loss? Nice report and good job getting your goal. I have been spoiled by expecting pictures of the Michigan crew, did you wear red shorts?

Why do I feel so relaxed after reading this RR, Mark? Even with the crazy start. You must have run a relaxed pace.Well, race goal accomplished. Well done. Now, how do you feel about that MP effort? Good times. (I'd pass on the KKs too and go for the beer as well.)

NIce race MarkGuy. It seems like you navigated the crow fairly well and had a great practice at your MP while at it. Go job. Now keep your focus on that upcoming marathon... you are so ready for it.

Nice of them to build the warm-up right into the structure like that. Now if they could only figure out how to get the walkers to line up in the back. ounds like you have the MP pace down. Sure that's not too slow for a SpeedyGuy like you to be shooting for? Glad you had a fun time.Skip
