Short report: 10 miles in 2:08 which was 14 minutes worse than 2006. Fashion: Black running skirt, lime green tank, white socks, faux tortoise shell clip in my hair, and my NB 1122 (which I returned to wearing since having the problem with my left leg).I drove up to Flint in an intermittent drizzle. I retrieved my packet at the pavilion at 6:45 and went to hang around the clock until race time - along with many, many, many other people. I didn't see any boomers . At the race start, it started raining lightly which is ok- I like the rain, but the air was pretty chunky. My leg only felt a little twingy after 1000 mg of ibuprophen. I can deal with both of these because I was only trying to finish anyway. Good thing I talked myself into just finishing because that's pretty much all I did. Too bad we couldn't have last Saturday's weather today - I may have been able to breath a little better. This race didn't seem quite as organized as last year, except my packet pickup, perhaps due the nasty storms and resultant power disruptions . As far a visual descriptions, I couldn't see anything. Rain on my stupid glasses and of course they were also steamed up. I tried wiping that away and they still were fogged. It was getting close to a toss up on whether I could see better with them or without them and I'm legally blind without them. I kept them on because I didn't want to carry them. I pretty much ended up walking up a number of hills and trying to run the rest. I was getting a little ticked off by these walkers that kept passing me. Near the finish I gave everything I had left and passed a number of walkers - that'll show them. Kinda funny, they said my name and city when I was barreling down to the finish. That's never happened before. So afterward, not sobbing like last year, I wandered all over the tent area and up and down the 140 mile pizza line. Still didn't see any Boomers. I don't think I'm supposed to meet you guys. I hope everyone had a good run. ------------------ My Profile

Anachro - Because I didn't get power back at home until last evening and was worried about more storms and tornadoes, I didn't get on my PC last night and had no idea you were going to be there. Yes, we were on the grassy area behind the clock -- that is, those of us who made it. Mark and Tom both had traffic problems getting in and barely made the start. The only ones there were myself and msuyama, who was a surprise (to me). We managed to meet marathon derrick for a short chat before the start.I might not post my RR for a while, but I did have a very good run considering the circumstances. Only a couple of us were under the tent afterwards and we might have left before you got there, in between rain showers. We'll have to try to be more organized next year, but it's hard when they change the setup a bit every year. Glad to hear that you made the distance, and now you have a mark to beat next year. Congratulations! ------------------ - Runnin' in Rochester Rochrunner

It is nice to hear your name over the loudspeaker, isn't it? Too bad about the lack of CR Boomer sightings. Maybe next time.

anachrotech, I'm sorry we didn't meet at this Crim but I can verify you exist (and you can say the same about me) since we've met briefly twice. As roch stated, I had some traffic issues and didn't get to the clock before the race. I saw roch and MarkGuy briefly in the tent after I finished and before I left to try and see my daughter and wife finish their races. I almost missed roch and Mark since I was looking for roch's red boomer shirt which he wasn't wearing. He saw me or I would have missed them. I'm glad to hear you completed the race without feeling bad. You were overdue for a decent race and deserved it for all your hard work and good attitude. That's neat that your name got announced as you finished. It's also great you got to show those walkers at the finish who was who. Keep up the good work, Lois.TomS ------------------ My Profile

I was there, just barely. In past years I've left my house at 5:00 am. This year, I thought I would leave at 5:30. In normal circumstances Flint is 1.5 hours from where I live. I wasn't counting on the traffic, however. The cars were backed up onto the interstate. I ended up going the wrong way on a one way street, jumping a curb, and parking on the grass about 3/4 of a mile from the start. I beat feet to the start, and got there with about 3 minutes to spare. Yes, it was raining. I ended up behind the walkers, which made my first mile a real challenge. Oh yeah, I even fell at mile 1. Didn't realize I had 2 bloody knees until I got into the shower at home. The race didn't seem as organized to me either. Never did see the porta johns that were supposed to be at miles 4 and 7. I was in pretty bad shape by the end of 10 miles! Not my best Crim,(1:34) but I did it! Had my eyes peeled for the boomers, but I didn't see any of you. Janet

Considering the problems you had in the week before, just finishing this race was a triumph. I'm glad you did it, and I hope you feel OK the day after. A Boomer meeting next year for sure...

Great job finishing the race even with the leg problems. Maybe next year will be the year to get a good group of boomers together. I really hope to be there myself.

I'm sorry you missed what little pre-race get together there was. Maybe we need Vista actually at the event, too. As for post-race, we need to find a quieter corner of the tent, then we can stay longer. Once the band started up it was way too loud.I'm happy to hear that you were able to run and that it went better than last year. Kind of neat having your name announced! Next year we'll coordinate better. Mark

I was afraid that suggestion was going to come up. I am going to have to budget for this job, I can tell. ------------------ vista129

I am sorry you didn't get to meet the gang and that your leg is still giving you trouble. Tough race in tough conditions while you are trying to heal up. You are a gutsy competitor. Spareribs

Well done! Sometimes the hardest thing is to just finish, when things aren't going well. Starting and finishing under those circumstances takes guts.------------------ My Profile "I think I can, I think I can"

Legally blind without the glasses, totally fogged up-blind with them... hmmm, hard decision. Glad you made it though, and sounds like you pulled it off pretty well considering the circumstances. Boomer sightings can be tricky things...------------------ evanflein

If you need more than 800 mg of ibuprofen, then you skip the race, that is my motto. But hey, it worked okay for you, you are a tough cookie! Get better and stay dry. {{anachrotech}}

anachro, your race sounds like a real challenge, with everything conspiring against you from the start. I hope your leg is no worse for the wear, and that next year will be a much better race for you. And for sure, a Boomer meeting next year...

Glasses should come with windshield wipers! You did great to finish this one. You are very determined. Hopefully the boomers will get together next year. I'd love to join you, as I'm only about 4 hours away (family lives in Jackson, MI). Maybe next year! Good job, anachrotech.

From what I understand, that's a tough race. If I were to go, I'd hope to simply finish, and that you did. As with others in this forum, I'd love to meet more boomers. I've met Derrick, however, it was my first marathon and I wasn't too chatty.------------------ Never regret anything that made you smile, SteveP My User Profile

Considering the leg problem, the crowds, a tough course and the vision issue, I think you did great just to be there and finish. Sorry the Boomer meetings didn't happen as planned. Hope the leg is 100% soon.Skip

Anachro - sounded like a tough race given the weather, 14,000 runners, tons of walkers, foggy glasses, etc, etc. To me though, you still got out there and got the job done. Hope you enjoyed yourself despite the 140 mile long pizza line! PJ
