I'm with you on this... I'm not however abandoning cr. I want to be prepared in case I have to. What I've seen at active wasn't pretty and if cr's forums go there, I'll be over a kickrunner's. [This message has been edited by anachrotech (edited Aug-16-2007).]

It's actually an old program that hasn't been updated significantly for quite a while, so it looks dated and only has a minimal amount of features. But it does a good job of tracking my mileage and I'm used to it. I credit the daily logging and totalling of mileage on my PDA with inspiring me to the levels that I eventually reached. ------------------ - Runnin' in Rochester Rochrunner

There's a lot to be said for software you can control in this way. I don't know the software Roch mentions, but I decided not to do any of the on-line logs precisely because I figured they'd be unstable over the long haul. I use David Hays' freebie Excel spreadsheet (http://www.davidhays.net/running/runlog/runlog.html) and that's been more than adequate for my level of training. I figure Excel will be around for awhile and my log is very easy to move around. I've also added some custom pages to track marathon training cycles, results for my local Grand Prix series, my PRs, etc. And the price is right.

Tet, you might be able to address some of this by changing your options. 1. Go click on the "User CP" in the upper left of the screen 2. Click on "Edit Options" 3. Scroll down to "Thread Display Options" and you'll see that you can choose to NOT see avatars, signature lines, images, etc. You can also choose to show more posts per page, making skimming easier. This might streamline things for you.

(I have to do them from my phone) You should be good to go now. Let me know if you cant login now. For anyone else, please be patient with me. Sometimes it takes longer than others for me to get the new member activations done due to my "real job" (dang work, always gettin' in the way! ) If for some reason, you still cant get in within a day or so of registering, (that would be the longest it would ever take me, and usually it will happen much quicker than that) email me at sierra@kickrunners.com and I will look into it. Thanks for your patience!
No worries. I was able to post within an hour after registering. I just get easily freaked out when I get nudged out of my comfort zone, which is right now this board right here.... Thank you for your personal reply, it made me feel welcome over at kickrunners. j

I tried this but it doesn't result in a significantly more streamlined appearance. I agree with Tet that the display is more cluttered. Even without the avatar display, the band with the name of the poster takes up about an inch of vertical space per post. Friendly environment, nice editor, but the dreadful layout will take some getting used to. I wish there was a "thin" display option with less eye candy.

Here's an email I just received (and I'm sure others did as well - or will soon). Hello Cool Running member, On behalf of the Active.com Consumer Media team we apologize for the inconvenience you and other CR members experienced this week. We’ve removed your account from Active.com. Some staff jumped the gun on communication, which has caused confusion amongst some of the CR members. Our first communication about the transition will be going out over the next 24 hours to all CR members. What you saw on Active is the preliminary community and future host of the CR boards, which is still in the works. With that, please refrain from posting or creating a user account on this new community. This community will be activated upon the completed migration of Cool Running and Active.com, which will occur in the Fall of 2007. We will be transitioning all CR accounts into Active accounts.
What will happen to the Cool Running site? The Cool Running site will remain and be gaining some new features. Aside from your new account and profile, the forums will be receiving an upgrade. Rest assured, all past threads and replies will be migrated to the new forums. You will still participate in the forums directly within the Cool Running site. The new forum community will provide staff and moderators with many more moderation tools and you with improved posting and notification features. More communication with instructions and the details of this project will be provided to CR members over the next month+. Our priority is to ensure all CR members experience a smooth transition and understand the details behind the changes.
Best, - The Active.com Commuinty Team {they must not have a good spell check, since "community" was spelled wrong. Or maybe they are trying to appeal to our fun misspelling ways! )

I agree with anachrotech. & tet, & dave. and egret. & jura.... (sorry, inertia -) ) well, remember, cr is supposed to stay as is other than the running log. there's still the aspect of active, which is yucky. eta. I agree with tw. :-) & edited again, -- bty, when I made my previous response, there wasn't a sinking ship showing on your post! maybe it didn't show up at work. anyway. I'm opposed to sinking. So he is accusing the Boomers of premature posting? Well….I don’t know what to say about that…. It’s taken me all afternoon to get through this thread (in between actually working occasionally) and I’m still not clear. I tried to check out the other site, but with this old dial-up at work I just got error messages. I will wait to see what happens before I do anything. Besides, I can’t think what I would register as…I don’t really like hollys4874, but I have no idea what I’d want to change it to, and if I change now, I probably won’t remember the new one.

And I locked in hally at RunZone too. Believe it or not hally is a popular name albeit probably with a capital H. That's why I have to use hallycat sometimes................wait, it was originally hallycat and all y'all internet people changed it to hally!! Now I answer IRL to either Barb or hally or hey you!!

That was pretty impressive, didn't take long at all did it! Hey Holly, it's a small board with maybe 500 registered users, so why don't you just register as "Holly" ?
