There is also http://therunzone.com/

I post over there too, although this has always been my home base. There is not a lot of traffic but I think there is good potential. The interface is very nice and so are the people. It has much more of a serious runners feel, but I'm sure that Ron, who occasionally posts here under handle of "rdracing" would be very open to suggestions that might make it more attractive to a wider audience. It's his Web Site. Tinman is also an administrator there.

Well, I tried again tonight to sort things out with no luck. I've decided Active is not ready for prime time and will wait until they get the bugs worked out to try again. It is, after all, a beta version.

Rob Costlow posted this:
"Please refrain from posting or creating a user account on this new community. This is the preliminary community and future location of the CR boards, which is still in the works. The link provided today on the official Cool Running site was placed up by mistake and has since been taken down.

This community will be activated upon the complete migration of Cool Running to
Active.com, which will occur in the Fall of 2007. Communication with the details of this project will be provided to CR members over the next month+.

You may post questions and feedback regarding the transition here.

Thank you."

Personally I think y'all should check out kickrunners.com

It's a member run site, of old CR'ers and Kicksters.
They might give us a boomers or masters forum.

Come to kickrunners. There are some pretty good runners over there and an excellent kamaraderie...sort of like the old kicksports was.

I've been there since the beginning.

I'm with hally, if we move anywhere en masse, consider kickrunners dot com. I registered over there some time ago but trying to keep up with two different boards is more than my burned out brain can handle. It is pretty user friendly though and seems to be about 90% CR people anyway.

kick will have a log, but does not yet. IT WILL.

You will most likely get the same ID at kick; it is a small community.

The forum has tons more features than coolrunning, but it also has more of a learning curve. Not hard, but if you are really used to coolrunning, it'll feel weird at first.

You should expect, if you come, that some things are in familiar places... but not everything will be exactly the same. This is ok.

The free-for-all area at kick is called the Post Race Tent (PRT). Please come check it out... it is NOT THE CLUBHOUSE. People are nice there and you won't get beaten senseless for having an opinion.

You get a great search facility. You get an easier-to-use editor.

And you get the ability to send each other Private Messages. This is like a mini-email system, but it is cool because it works based on the kick IDs... so you don't have to remember, or even know, someone else's email address. Just send them a PM.

Check it out. Nice, and no one bites.

Except me. And I took out my teeth.

What he said. Kick has so many nice features, Iike a real up to date forum should have. Actually when I mentioned we might try it the admin there private messaged me to talk about it. Sign up, get a username and feel free to post over in the clubs area for now. I am starting a thread for Masters over there. Well of course you can post anywhere but I am starting a thread there

As a Moderator here at Cool Running(Basic Training), and a founder member of Kick! back in the 90's, I haven't had even the courtesy of an email from Active.com about their intentions, and if I want to continue as such after the move.

I have been involved with the Kickrunners site since it's inception too, and would thoroughly recommend it to each and everyone. The 30's group from CR have been over at KR for a while, and many who have been around here for ages will find old friends.

As a Boomer of sorts (well, OK I'm 49) I would love to have the whole group over at KR - Masters we can be

Hope to see you there -

Liam

I would wait for the "official" move before deciding if it is a good or bad thing. Between now and then everything will likely be a jumble as they try to work things out. Regarding kickrunners I just went over there to look around. If they started a B&B area I would probably head over more often. For my money this is by far the most interesting forum here at CR.

......I have my running log on ''favorites''.......which can be ANYBODY'S running log....

.....don't think I'd switch from here,,,,,,just put another running log under ''favorites''.......

.......ironically, I started posting here for the running log after Saucony took their running log away////////

......Double-Ironically, I thought I was the ONLY middle aged runner left over from the 70s til I discovered ''Boomers''...

....I like it here,,,,,,who else would tolerate this kind of lousy typing except other tech-challenged-tolerate boomers??

I've been boycotting Active.com for almost two years over $90 they owe me (billed me three times for a race). They even agreed to refund back my money, but for some reason they can't seem to complete the task of doing so. I finally gave up. So now, any race that uses Active.com for its online sign-up, I use the snail-mail approach. The cost of the stamp is a lot cheaper than the $2 or $3 fee they charge.

I've been trying to come to terms with what I was going to do if we moved this forum to Active.com. I'm sure I would be happy anywhere else other than Active.com. Kickrunners does sound intriguing to me.

Just be aware that you may not have a choice... you may log in one day soon (say "Fall 2007" based on what's posted on active) and you will be faced with active's message boards.

You'll have to re-register (probably) and learn their board (most definitely).

So, if you don't really want to come over to a different site like kickrunners, that's fine - lots of choices out there. Just don't expect to be comfortable here for all that much longer.

oh that's just priceless. (a political speech writer?)

what a world, what a world...

Seems there's no way to know how things will be. cr says they will remain as a message board. could be. I think most of us would agree with what Roch said this morning

I'm just worried that this will lead to a break-up of the fine community that we've built up here.
That could happen whether we go in different directions or get lost in too big a pool, no matter how nice the pool is.
ooh, a pool right now sounds really nice.

I registered over at Kickrunners months ago as well, but haven't logged in in such a long time. I only posted once I believe but had no desire to keep up with two running boards. But if/when this forum ceases to exist, I'm open to moving whereever the majority chooses to go. Whether its' Kickrunners, or the new Active boards - doesn't much matter to me. I'd rather just be whereever the friends that I have here decide to go. I can adapt to whatever board format there is.

Well, well, well. I just found out today that this "moving thing" is in the works. Luckily (1) I had registered with Active a long time ago for some reason or another, (2) no one else in the world probably uses the handle "fatozzig", and (3) I've successfully registered at kickrunners. NOW . . . I guess the next move would be to download my running log, 'cause if I lost that . . . .

I'm not a frequent poster here at B&B, but there's a good group of us under "Newbie" and 40's on the Run. Must make sure my compadres know what's happening so that we, too, can discuss where to land when the $&!# hits the fan.

I feel like being a crybaby over all this. I LOVE coolrunning! Why are they doing this to us? What have we done to deserve this treatment? I don't wanna go! I don't, I don't, I don't!

A couple of observations:

-- Some of this is what I am always leery of when using "free" software or a "free" website. Basicallly, the people who own it or are doing the work don't really have any obligation to you because, after all, you didn't pay anything for it -- right? That's why I use a commercial software program for my running log, which is kept on my PC (which I back up regularly). This is not a criticism of CoolRunning per se, but is just what often happens with unpaid services.

-- I'm afraid that we're headed for fragmentation, as we're already recommending to use this or that site, or to not use a particular site. I'm also not a big fan of Active, and have had to opt out of their spam a few times after registering for an event or whatever. But I'd also like to use a site that I feel will be around for a while.

-- This is a good reminder of how fragile these online "communities" are. Once lost, we may never find each other again.

I had never heard of kickrunners so I went over there and checked it out. What a friendly, inviting atmosphere! You have to love a site whose rules and regs include a reference to making sure there's enough beer for everyone.

I, too, have boycotted the Active registration process for races and ran into billing problems the one time I had to use them. The more intrusive ads that appeared here shortly after their takeover don't bode well for the future.

If we have to move, give me kickrunners over the Active borg anyday. I'm registered and ready to go.
