I don't think there is such as thing as really racing on mud and rocks so get onto a packed or paved course and say goodbye to PR and Ms. Legs.

Erika - there are a lot of Boomers making great progress in their running, but clearly you are near the top of the list. A really nice race, time and 10 min PR! I would bet that it would have been an even better time had you been running on even, dry ground. What did you get for your 2nd AG placing ...just a medal? Say 'hi' to Santa!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all the kudos and comments.
RCG, Delta Junction is about 85 miles farther down the road. We used to go there for horse shows when I was in 4-H (wow, now that was a long time ago!).
Spankee, you're right, no Santa...
I did get a silly medal with a running Santa on it, no candy canes...
The one concern I have is that Miss Long Legs had the same course issues to deal with that I had. I beat her soundly in the three previous distances (5k, 10k and 1 mile) so can't figure out where she got that burst in the second half... I didn't fade which I so often do, so I just don't get it. She turned the mcmillan calculator I've been working with totally upside down. I'm not beating myself up about it--far from it--but I really wish it made sense.
Choover, while sometimes you think you've created a monster with your DH running, I wish mine would at least a little. He jogged that last tenth in with me, but other than that he doesn't do much anymore. When I did the Napa Marathon in 2006, he did the companion 5k and that's been it.
Oh well, on we go and now to train on some hills!!

I enjoyed reading the report and congrats on the new PR especially with little or no sleep. Since you've already beaten long legs at 3 distances, maybe you should let her have one.

Nice report and excellant running. A great time for what sounded like a trail race. That is puzzling about Ms Long Legs.Ask her what the secret is.
Great job. Congrats on the hardware.

A 10 minute improvement is fantastic, Erika. You just keep getting faster with each race. Loved the report and feeling the connection to this quirky race.

Way to go sister Erika, second place in AG, and running to the finish line with DH. You impressed me every time I read your RR on how much you have improved in the last year. You are one speedy goddess. How is the sun burn doing?

Please come and run Belligham with us in October.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Hopefully the race hasn't faded into a distant memory. I doubt it because it seemed very memorable. Congrats on a super-speedy PR and getting hardware, Ms. Santa Claus!

It's muggy at the North Pole? This global warming is really getting out of hand.

Fine PR and and excellent RR. Good racing. Miss long legs is going down next time. Book it.
