Fast Facts: 38:50 3 AG Course Record by 1:09.

I have run this hilly race 3 X before successively faster each year. Lioness and her friend Neil were also here. Neil turned 60 this year so he is now once again in my age group and therefore my enemy when racing . . . I just wish he wasn't so darn likable. We were neck and neck passing each other several times. I am faster uphill but he is a steadier runner overall. He beat me this year by 14 seconds and got 2nd AG WTG Neil grrrrr.
We did spot a local celebrity Cecily Tynan a local TV weather person, an accomplished runner and triathlete who has done the Kona iron man.
My daughter and 2 grandchildren, Taylor 6 and Brooke 3, were also there, cheering on their favorite racer. The 6 of us when out for dinner afterwards. Neil and Diane were regaling us with tales of their past exploits. Neil has been a running for the last 46 years and has run Boston for the last 41 years . . . so he has a lot of tales of the old days.
There were 3 other tables in the our area and the TV had on some sports show. I noticed Taylor went over to the table by the TV and convinced them to switch to the Disney channel . . . it took him a while but he got it done. About 10 minutes later Brooke went over to each of the other tables and spent a few minutes talking with the people there, I thought she was just being sociable. She seemed to be having a good time and the people at the tables were obviously enjoying her company. Later I found out that she was urging them to be quiet so she could hear the TV because Sponge Bob was on. One of the men at the last table offered her a job when she got older . . . he was impressed with her persuasive presence.
That was by far the highlight of my evening.

MrPat. 38:50 is pretty quick for a 5 miler. Well done on the course record.I'd love to hear the tales over dinner. Thanks for the RR.

You sure ran a fast 5 miles, mrpat. Congratulations. It sounds like the company at the race and at dinner couldn't have been better.

Wow mrpat, that's an excellent time for a hilly course. And you shattered your course record; outstanding effort!

Sounds like you had a great day too.

FANTASTIC race, mrpat. I was hoping to find your RR of the Running of the Monk from last week - glad to know you survived the heat to run Media this week and to do it so well.

Zounds, mrpat! I thought I read somewhere you just celebrated your ... going by memory now, which can be a tad scary ... 38th anniversary? Cannae be. You're running like a 38-year-old.

Must be that long-ago Protection Island living.

Hey, I’m with Brooke – I like Sponge Bob, too. What a couple of cuties. Oh yeah, and by the way, that is an excellent time for a 5-miler, fast guy! You’re one of the cute Boomers that whiz by me and inspire me too…great racing!

Greta job Mr.Pat! That is a fast time. I did the Running of the Monk the week previous to this.

We must be from the same area. I'm from Drexel Hill. Is the Media 5 miler as hilly as the Monk? That adds a couple of minutes to my usual time. I didn't think I was in good enough shape to do 2 hilly races one week apart. I hear the Media 5 is a really great race & atmosphere.

That's a really fast time there MrPat!
Enjoyed your RR, especially the extra story about grandchild Taylor and her power of persuasion...
Keep up the good work, and next time you will come out ahead of Neil.

Eliz, I didn't write a RR on the Monk not much to write about it was 92F and i don't do well in the heat but the party afterwards was great and the grandkids love that race.

Holly, I think my days of whizzing past you will soon be over as you improve as a runner, you will more and more be the whizzee.

SS, I know this is against your religion but we ate a lot of oysters on PI which probably helped to keep me young. I don't know about running like a 38 YO, but my wife thinks I sometimes act like i'm eight and sometimes 3.

IrishPatty, the Monk is all hills, Media has some flat portions but the hills seem steeper and of course this year it was only in the 70's for Media. I really enjoy both races. I live in NJ just south of the Walt Whitman Bridge.
I think Lioness lives in Drexel Hill.
