“That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do; not that the nature of the thing itself is changed, but that our power to do is increased.”— Ralph Waldo Emerson Little-known fact: Emerson had a 2:56 marathon PR but considered himself more of a middle-distance guy. (Trust me; English & American Lit was one of my majors.) On to the numbers….be sure to post: 1. your total mileage for the month (indicate if this was a PR) 2. any race PR’s (include distance and time) Revised April numbers (incorporating late posters) Total = 14,282.7 Average = 123.1 Median = 111.3 N=116 Original thread is here Background for newcomers: At the end of each month, Boomers are required by the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency to note how many miles (or kilometers) they have run that month. Don’t ask why; it’s the law. You must be 40+ years old and run or walk at least 1 mile to be eligible. Sorry, only running and walking numbers are counted. Figuring out a way to incorporate cross-training numbers would cause my head to explode. The deadline is midnight EST on the 2nd of the new month. The numbers are tallied and posted (usually on the 3rd) in a simple analysis that includes various awards, serious and silly. No matter how few or how many miles you have, please post! Every mile is an accomplishment. Final, revised numbers that incorporate late-comers will be reported with next month’s announcement. However, late posters are not eligible for awards unless the transfer of substantial amounts of free beer is involved. [This message has been edited by Tramps (edited May-30-2007).]

--> May Miles: 148 [counting tomorrow's planned four] --> 2007: 623Total of 22 runs, with distances ranging for 4 to 13 miles, and featuring scattered showers, random wildlife, and multitudinous flowers. Average pace in the low 7s. Danke schön, Herr Tramps, for the aesthetically pleasing pic, apropos quote, and little-known factoid. Ya know, we have the James Joyce 10K around these parts .... perhaps he was a middle-distance guy himself. . . . . e k i M ~

Unusually minimalistic month for me. 33.7 miles running, including one 15k race (PR for this distance - 1:18:10) and one 3.5 mile race (PR for this race - 24:41). But I rode 284.5 miles on my bike.

. . . and I thought my miles were low . . .77.3 for the month (no run planned for tomorrow) - I've been having trouble getting back in the groove since my last half no races this month, so no PR's possible

Hi and thank you Tramps for doing this. I know it's fun to crunch the numbers. This month = 130 miles Year To Date = 746 miles No races. This was recovery month from the super hot Nashville Country Music Marathon on April 28th. That one took the Mickey out of me. Back on track for the month of June though. Trampster . . . I like that! I was going to try and get in a run tomorrow, but May was such a poor running month for me that I've decided to just hang it up for May and get my totals in. Plus, DS has a ball game tomorrow so I'd rather go watch that that go running after work. total for May: 35.35 miles a total of 7 days of running the whole month :eyeroll: that puts me at 248.10 for the year. Included in May though was my first Half Marathon, a PR, at 2:11:43. ------------------ Tamalina
