Neither did I and I run the bike path on a regular basis and have finished VCM 5 times. WRFB's chart is not accurate.

You shouldn't encourage him like that... Seriously, great job and congrats on doing so well despite the H&H! You and PDR are such a cute couple. I enjoyed all the graphs and pictures in your RR. Those official results are interesting but in my case I'm not sure I'd want to see myself in the back of the pack in that format. ------------------ choover

I wrote the race report at 0 dark thirty this morning and realize I left out some important information:Garmin elevation graphs are notoriously noisy -- I should have realized that not everyone knows this and pointed it out. E.g., the "hills" around mile 19 are non-existent. People should look at the trends, not the fast gyrations. Regardless of the hills which were there, this is a beautiful marathon to run, in a wonderful city, with tremendous crowd support for a reasonably small race (2500 marathoner finishers, plus I think about 1000 relay teams). The race director gave a talk at the expo, and she said that there'd be 30,000 fans. In a town (she said) of 40,000 that's pretty significant. The race itself was interesting on the whole, it was varied through residential neighborhoods an out and back on a highway, and along beautiful Lake Champlain on the relatively flat to downhill bike path. Just setting the record straight, and sorry to bump my own race report.

You ran a wonderful race WillRunForBeer! It is amazing that you were able to be so fast and consistent on a course like that. Congratulations! Take care of the mousy toe too. {{{WillRunForBeer's toe}}} I am glad you didn't need ibuprofen in the race after all. May I have the pictures that Dark Horse crops out?

Lou, you ran a heck of a race after one of the best training cycles I have seen. You are amazingly strong and that goal race is in your near future. Thanks for the beer and hospitality. It was awesome meeting and hanging out with you and Harriet. I hope we can meet up again sometime in the near future. cfli

WRFBCongratulations on a great race. You did amazing and achieved 2 out of 3 goals. You should be proud. And as always, meeting other boomers is such a highlight. I wish I could do it more often but most of you live too far away. Take care Lou and hope to meet you and PDR someday. Tall

I totally agree. I have watched you and PDR's training with interest, and hoped this would be a great marathon for both of you. Not as fast as you had hoped, perhaps, but still a BQ for you, and close to BQ for PDR - great job (and an especially great comback after an injury PDR)!

Lou: Sometimes the compression and scaling of those elevation graphs can make a speed bump look like Mt. Everest, but I took a look at the topology of the course and I sure would not want to run my next long race on those hills! So you really achieved a lot to do that time at this time of the year. As I said in response to your DW, you just have to drive a few hours into our part of the country to find a flat, fast marathon for your PRs and BQs. Thanks for posting such a great report and for the pictures that we all enjoy seeing. (Note to DH - sorry to post a response here without repeating PDR's photo, although I was tempted) ------------------ - Runnin' in Rochester Rochrunner

Lou- Congratulations on getting another solid training block and marathon race under your belt. It looks like you've been bitten hard by the marathon bug...good luck with that. Like Mr T said in response to the question 'what's your prediction?'...Pain I'd be willing to bet that 3:2x will be your next marathon time-if you go for a fall race. Your experience will help you in future races. Rest and recover, so you can do it all again! Well done.

Nice race Lou, 2 out of 3 goals isn't bad. You and PDR have trained well and you'll get your sub 3:30 and she'll get her BQ next time out. Mrs. Ribs

Hey Lou!That was fun! Isn't it funny that we just bumped into each other at the expo and then again outside the parking garage? It was a great weekend despite the minutes that slipped away. One of my favorite memories will always be drinking the beer you brewed in the parking lot. (Sweetwaters... sister restaurant to the Tuscan Kitchen!)

Hey, Rose! Thanks for all the kind words from all of you -- I forgot to mention this in my daily run report. While my thread is on top I'll take the opportunity to respond so I won't bump it too far. Sweetwaters was a great lunch spot. Burlington is a fantastic place and I hope to have the chance to go there again. Rose and spacecadet - I fixed the handle in the captions on the picture site -- I had it wrong originally from poor memory.

I think Lou brews all of his beer in parking lots. I will never forget visiting his place in Frederick a couple of weeks ago, when he lined up five glasses of his home-brewed beer on the bar for me to taste. The beers on the right side were lighter in color and tasted like soap, and the beers on the left side were darker and tasted like furniture polish. After I had drunk them all, he forced me to choose which beer I would like a second glass of. I wanted to say, "None of them," but as a guest in someone's home you have to be polite. So I split the difference and chose the middle one of the five beers, which tasted only a little soapy and only a little like furniture polish. Then he poured me another glass of that beer, which made a total of six beers. I don't think anyone can blame me for starting to paw Predawnrunner, or peeing in the garden, or any of my other behavior that evening, most of which I can't remember anyway, and I really think Lou and PDR exaggerated my actions and blew the whole thing out of proportion the next morning. Is it possible to look that good upon completing a marathon? Are you certain you two ran hard enough? If beer's the secret, forget the discipline I committed to earlier today. Pass the keg, Lou. Or maybe I'll join tomwhite and have a Guinness. I agree with bonger, that you and PDR light up this board. Selfishly, of course, I hope you take that keg on a road trip to Portland in October. And two out of three ain't bad. Whatever marathon you choose in the fall, good health and good running to you and PDR.

Beer Runner,Sorry to hear about your DUI while driving home through my home state of Massachusetts. For those who haven't heard yet, poor Lou had the book thrown at him. When Lou was brought before the judge, he was asked if he knew what the punishment for drunk driving in that state was. Lou said, "I don't know ... re-election to the Senate?"
