PatriotIt usually starts in the hip for me. I did a ton of core stabilzer exercises and that helped tons but as my massage therapy likes to say, she has never seen tight IT bands like mine. So, the work on the core stabilizers were good but I have to do a lot more on my IT's to loosen them up. They were very sore during the last few K's in Boston and they never fully recovered, so I paid the price. Tall

Congratulations Tall, that was one gutsy effort. I would have to think the last several kilometers were as tough mentally as physically, knowing how close your were to going sub 3. It was a very inspiring effort.------------------ Labduck

Tall, I really enjoyed reading your race report. It always helps to understand what others think and feel as they work through the mental and physical fatigue toward the end of a marathon. Thanks for the insights. And a very warm congratulations. cj

Tall, I am so glad to hear you broke the three-hour barrier. Many congratulations. I also appreciate the /km splits: it's nice to see them in my native language. I usually convert out to imperial units for the forum. You were smokin', my friend. Have a well-deserved rest. You've accomplished a lot. ------------------ Mustang Sally Boomers and Beyond wiki

Wow, wow, wow! I've run a few races post-Boston, but in my wildest dreams, I could never run a marathon so soon. You're ability to recover so quickly and then pull out a sub-3 marathon is a testament to your phenomenal training. BRAVO!--Robin

Congrats.Since each race is a learning experience, what would you have done differently? 10 minute positive split. Was that you, the course, Boston, weather, training, going out too fast? Those are the questions I asked myself when I ran an 8 minute positive split at NY, which I blamed in part on a lack of race-day experience. What motivates me to want to do it again is trying to find those extra minutes I left on the course last time.

jpgarlandLet me try and answer your question What would you have done differently? 10 minute positive split. Was that you, the course, Boston, weather, training, going out too fast? I d'ont believe I would have raced differently. The half split was fine and I was within myself. I do believe I have close to a 2:50 in me currently. What would I do differently. Not run a marathon that close after Boston. Mentally I was not as sharp and the training I did in between Boston and Ottawa was all speed work. Mentally (if only mentally) I needed some longer slower runs (time on my feet). More and more I realize that running is mental vs physical. D'ont get me wrong you have to be fit but if you believe you can do it, the mind is an extremely capable tool. Simply said: My brain needed more time to believe I could do it. Tall
