We've got it sussed over here in the UK. The kids aren't allowed to race over 4K until they're 16, they have to do the fun runs instead, so we're pretty safe. However we get humbled by the speedy walkers instead! Well done MC.

Choover, loved the caption!

A 19:03 5k for an 11-year-old is an age-graded result of 80.3. That puts him on Meg's level, talent-wise. Walter is going to be tearing up the track in a few more years.

Check your sources on Walter -- he is a fine runner.

I see a 41:32 10k out there for him...

Hope your 11 yo took your congrats more graciously than the ones I gave to the 10 yo who beat me two weeks ago. The little twerp just scowled at me. I decided I'm not talking to kids who have just turned double-digits anymore. ... unless, of course, I beat them ... cj

mcsolar,

You did fine. Next time, go Econo on the little brats.

Dave: Dark Colt could run a 5K in 23 flat at age 8 ... but is now 11, and hasn't run that fast since. After I got deployed, he quit running, and now doesn't even play soccer, which he used to star at.

Congratulations on winning your age group, you old stud.
The important thing is, your shoes and your shorts match and the HRM strap, oh my!

HRM strap? OH, I thought that was a br.... never mind.

You might have tripped the little kid, or pushed him out of the way like Econo does.

Good win on the AG. I think you were wrong when you said nobody fast showed up. You did, and beat the rest of them. Congratulations.

Tom

LOL Hermosaboy!

mc, my sister has a dog named Walter. Where's your next race? You can challenge him yourself or perhaps you as Spareribs. Your call.

Congrats on the win.

SS!!
Is this Walter the Farting Dog of kid book infamy?

“Walter the Farting Dog.”

The book consists of a few pages of big pictures of a family with a dog whose noxious fumes almost force the bad dad to get rid of him. One day burglars break in and Walter farts them out of the house. Everybody hugs the dog and the dad says, oh Walter, we’ll never get rid of you now. Walter farts and they all live happily ever after.

It's a good skill set, non?

My last hat purchase was inspired by that movie - truly a fashion statement.

Sorry, mc. Slap us with a trout for the drift.

Egret, this Walter dog likes tomatoes. (He deserves a book deal too.) He'll nip them from plants outdoors. Walter's a gentle giant and once grabbed a bunch of the vine-ripened variety from the counter and skulked off to my sister's bedroom to devour them. As he bites into them with his front teeth, the seeds and juice sprayed a splatter pattern on the white sheets and walls. The place looked like a murder scene!

I don't know if my sister's Walter farts, but I'm quite aware of a lot of runners who do.

19 is really fast for an 11 year old, really fast. Ah, the pacing and racing a 5k is a lot like toying with a rubber band, and somtimes iit whacks your fingers instead of sailing across the room. You'll sail soon enough.

ok, i wasn't going to post a race report, but this picture (on our local running club web page) just made me do it:

i passed kid at mile 1, thinking he was gassed. he passed me at mile 2.5, i had nothing. he beat me by 3 seconds, dang 11 year old.

my boston time 3:05 predicts an 18:54 5k, and i ran 19:09. this is the first time in my life my 5k time has been slower than my marathon time would predict... must mean i'm a marathon runner?

nobody fast showed up, so i won my age group. 29th overall out of 200. i usually run under 18 in this race, uggg.

go walter! i gave him a big pat on the back and told him he finished well in the chute. congratulated him again getting water. then out on a cool down with friends we saw him and his pals running a 2 mile cooldown and i clapped for him and told him he ran a great race (sorry ribs)...

but really what i'm thinking: 194 days till sacramento... grrrr....

edited to tone down the pity party... neighbors were complaining.
