Way to go WB! Great run and great report. You have honored those you ran for. It's wonderful you are already thinking of another race - I'm guessing we'll see you back for more! I'm so glad you decided to post this report - Boomers are pretty great people.I'm proud to know you! ----Bob from Northampton

Not much to add - others have said it so well - except a hearty thank you for posting your RR. You made me laugh, you made me cry, you made me think that just maybe this marathon thing is something I might be able to do one day, although I doubt that I have your grit and determination. Congratulations on your PR and thanks for the inspiration.

WB, that is a race and a mission to be very proud of. The leaders have it easy--they're only out there for a little over two hours! What you did takes great mental and physical toughness. Congratulations, and I hope you feel better soon.

I really liked your race report. I give a lot of credit to the fast runners and all the effort they put into their training, but I get the most inspiration from stories like yours. Great race!-Dove

[QUOTE]Originally posted by willdebeest: I've hesitated all week about posting this. All of the reports are done so well, you are all so fast, and I have been kind of intimidated by it. But what the hey. Its about time this mysterious sporadic boomer poster files a race report regardless of how it went. BRAVOOOOOO. I am so glad you have posted your RR. With so many speedy runners in this forum, sometimes I also feel like I don't belong in here, but like you said... what the hey We are no less of a runner because we are slow, right? I just dream to becoming fast... meanwhile... i am so glad to have speedy friend whom I could sheer and learn fromthen I saw the turn onto Hereford St., mile 26. Suddenly there was gas in the tank(funny how this works). I picked it up, saw the finish line and as usual started tearing up hoping that I did my sister and little Nicky justice. I AM TEARY EYED AS I AM READYING THIS. Good thing there are volunteers taking the chip off for you. I could have never done it myself, I was exhausted. I wasn't going to post this either but the hell with it, I'm proud of this. My time was 5:44:16. A PR by 8 minutes. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PR. Like Spareribs would say> every miles counts, every PR is important. I've been giddy all week about this. I swore this would be my last marathon, I'm just not good at it. But I find that marathons are like beer, maybe I'll have one more.... 'Once upon a time I was running a marathon, Now the thought makes me shiver, Now what I'll do is a total eclipse of the liver' LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

Hey....this is a GREAT RR.CONGRATULATIONS on the PR....while honoring those you ran for. To have stuck with it during that day so that you could run past wine (well beer), (Wellesley) women and long (in time), says it all. I enjoyed reading every bit of it, for all of us have faced challenges at various times where we could identify. However, you came out victorious.

WB,Yes, thanks for posting your RR. I read it twice, it was so good. Yours, I can relate to much more easily than those from our more swifty brethren. Congrats on a fantastic effort and a PR. Someday, I hope I can write a RR like yours. With utmost admiration and respect, huskydon

Don't have much to add myself, except that I know what it's like to be out there for 5-6 hours. I've done it many, many times and I admire you. I understand your reluctance about posting this report, and I'm glad you did.------------------ My Profile

All of you have made me feel so much better about this ! As a matter of fact I don't consider myself slow anymore. I'm just not in as much of a hurry as other people.

WB -- I thought I had already posted on your RR; sorry this was delayed. I read over it several times. Several descriptions of your run came to mind. Shuffling blob sure wasn't one of them. More like admiration for your perseverance and determination. As you said at the end, you should be proud. Your are awesome. cj

wildebeest, I can relate to you more ways then you think. I really respect how you toughed it out, even though your training hasn't been going well, you were struggling with illness, and you even lost most of your gels (boy, you had some serious bad luck ). With all these difficulties you managed a PR. You can be sure your sister and young friend are smiling with you right now. Congratulations! j------------------ jura

WB - I too enjoyed your report. There is much to be learned from it. The least of which is remembering to zip up our pockets and remember our pace bands. Much more important is honor and remembrance for our loved ones, courage and perseverence despite adversity, coping with less than optimal conditions and looking for and finding silver linings. We are proud of you Will. I'm sure your Sis and Nicky are too. Well done.Skip
