It was a greta week I arrived late Thursday night, Checked into my brownstone appt. 4 blocks from the finish. I touched bases with wa5yom [Tim &family). They were my neighbors for the week.Friday was spent at package pickup, the expo, and learning my way around the city. Saturday I found the wonderful Italian bakeries in the north end (calories don't count when you are on vacation), Sat. night was a great dinner with the speedy MCSolar & Haley Sunday morning began with the freedom run & a chance to visit with San Succi, MC, wa5yom & family & Dove & Mr. dove. Then off to the boomer bash Once again Henry & Marge were lovely hosts, & It was so much fun meeting, or renewing acquaintances with all the boomers. The remainder of the day called for rest & the pasta dinner with wa5yom, his family and a Seattle friend of mine. Monday AM, While walking to the bus some wind gusts brought me to a stop, I was a bit concerned but If I ever had any control of weather conditions I must have spent it all to keep the Worst of the Northeaster at bay. The athlete’s village was a sloppy mess, but the temperatures were much warmer then predicted and there was little wind noticeable. By the time the wave 2 gun went off the rain had stopped. it was a great morning for a jog. Wellesley was loud, the Newton hills were still there, the crowds were enthusiastic, The Pros stop was great I saw him under his sign I said I was divechief, he looked at the bottles in each of his hands & handed me one of them. I don’t think I thanked him enough for the stop. I think his crew had it rougher then the runners. I told him I thought it could have been a P.R. day I’m glad some boomers proved this true. I knew I would be a little slower then my 3:35 of last year. Still my easy paced 3:43 was better than I thought I could do in the best of conditions. I must owe it all to the pro, I certainly owe him a couple beers. Tuesday, to workout the kinks, I hiked the freedom trail, including the 296 steps to the top of the bunker hill monument, That of course demanded another trip to a north end bakery. Wednesday called for a trip to Salem, It was very touristy, but the rain kept the crowds away. it was an educational detour. It's always nice to be home, but it was a great stay in a great city. I will be back, but probably not next year. Dave

A 3:43 is stellar! I would kill for that time, and and it's only 8 minutes slower than last year and after all you've been through with your injury, to come back with a strong race like that and in those weather conditions is AWESOME! I am so proud of you! arf P.S. What did you devour at the bakeries?

You hiked the next day? You rock! I managed some slow walking, but not much more. You overcame a lot to manage such a great pace this year...hope you come back to Boston really soon!--Robin

Wooohoooo!!! Sounds like you had quite the tour of our fair city - and I'm betting it felt a lot like home with all the rain! Since your time was about the same as mine... I think you should be really wicked proud of it!! Congrats!!!------------------ ->>> John <<<- Go write something in the Newbie Wiki!!

You were way earlier then you had anticipated getting to the water stop, great to hear that you had an easy time of it in the windy conditions. It was fun meeting up for dinner and thanks for the good luck phone call (found a $20 on the ground while talking to Dave)Barb

Dave, Just the report I was hoping to read. Glad you had a great "easy paced" run. You differnently seem to have a way with the weather. Sounds like you had a wonderful time in Bahstan. What is on the table for the next run? I have committed to Eugene but, haven't looked past it. Maybe something in May before we move into the new house. Rest some and get back into training. Ohh, happy feet.------------------ Good running!!! Mike's Profile

Well this was a great training run for your marathon coming up in May. Great job. Hey and I have visited Salem on a rainy day, I think that is the perfect atmosphere to visit Witchy lane. Where are all the pictures, especially from henrun and marj's brunch? Congratulations on a happy Boston!

Mike: When do you move out here? The next race on our schedule is Reno May 6th, (I'm trying to figure out how to do this Recovery/taper) then probably Estes Park CO in the middle of June.

Dave,It's great you were able to see the Boston sights. So often, we travel to interesting places, but all we do is what we went there for, and we fail to squeeze the juice from the experience. Maybe I should just substitute "I" for "we" in that last sentence. Dark Horse ------------------ I'm a dark horse, running on a dark race course

good job dave, I knew our PNW'ers wouldn't be phased by the Boston weather. Nice try too, trying to make the Bostoners think that it wasn't that bad. You won't get away with makin' bad weather sound good back here though. No matter what, with you back now, it was sunshining today. Uhm, . . . why do I have this funny feeling you'll be back in the sunshine in 2008? I hope so.

Dave, you must be on the Top 10 Nicest Boomers list. I really enjoyed meeting you at the Freedom Run and speaking to you at the brunch. The 3:43 is a great time. I don't know how you Maniacs do it race after race. I think Dark Horse is right about taking in more of the sights. I'm not sure about hiking the next day, but we'd expect that of a Maniac; right? Best of luck to you in Reno.

Dave, it sounds like you really enjoyed this year's Boston experience. Getting to meet all those Boomers must have been great and then also getting to see the City on top of that. Your race sounds like it went really well too, with no major problems. Congratulations!Meg

Yay! Good job, and am so glad you got to experience more of the area this year. Don't decide not to go back next year yet---remember, the women's Olympic Trials will be on, and that should be a greta experience! I stayed near the start, so missed out on the Boomer fun--wanted to head out to western Mass after the race. That was fun, but I missed all youse guys! Thanks again for the masterful weather control, grins, A ps. Alas, I'm co-counseling a murder trial that starts April 27 and it appears at this point we'll not be finished until May 7, so no Reno for me this year. We'll end up somewhere in the next months at the same race, yes?edited to add: the North End is the Italian section, so I'm guessing there was at least one or two cannolis from the bakeries? Jeez Dave,Here I am tutuing on your behalf, and I don't even get a mention. Was the imaginary fudge that bad? (Just kidding). Glad you had such a good time in Boston - and a 3:43 in those conditions is excellent. It was a pleasure meeting you - and thanks for tolerating the whole PBJ clan. Perhaps we shall meet again?
