Abbreviated version -- y'all know the finishing time of 3:09:40 which placed me in the top 10% and was remarkably close to my goal time.Fashion -- Typical for me. White MN RED hat Garmin HRM Black Underarmour Mock Turtleneck (debated, but SHOULD HAVE left this off). MN RED Singlet Combo 180 Gloves Garmin 301 Black MUG MN RED Tattoo Patter shorts White/Grey Balega socks White/Red/Blue Nike Marathoners Where to begin -- the weather. Not so bad. Temperature was fine with me. Rain stopped just before we started running. The wind -- not so good... JohnMass and I planned to run together with a goal of hitting the top of heartbreak at an avg pace of 7:20 per mile. It was great running with John with one exception -- he needs to let me draft every once in a while. So, took about 2:30 to cross the finish line and John and I settled in. We were running comfortably and hitting our splits -- or fairly close. We were running more by effort than trying to hit an exact time. Each time we hit a mile, John would see where we were in relation to elapsed time and then give me the number we should shoot for. Then, I just ran and he would either be beside me or drafting off me. Ran with another Minnesotan for the first 10 miles or so, then he pulled away on us. I told John I thought we would see him again. Unfortunately, this turned out to be true. Anyway, John and I plugged along. Enjoyed ourselves by making jokes and marveling at the spectators that turned out in less than stellar conditions. So, as we were getting to the 20 mile area, John and I got into a debate about where the ProHydration station was. Then we looked up and there it was (THANKS!). Tom ran along with me to give me my liquids and a banana. Gave half of it to John and ran with him for a bit -- then it was time for John to run on his own. Look for his race report for more details. I had PLANNED to really drop the hammer at this point, unfortunately, I think the wind in the past and the wind we were running in to took it's toll. Plan was 6:30s to the finish. However, when I picked it up, I quickly realized that I was not going to be able to. Quads were a bit sore and the wind was getting me cranky. So, time to adjust. Instead, I set my sights on just trying to get to sub 7 -- this was a success. I won't bore you with all the splits, but the last ones did hit the adjusted goal. In fact, mile 26 actually got down to 6:35. So, goal time for the race 3:08:32 -- Actual, 3:09:40. AVG HR 149 and MAX of 175. I gave up 1:08 to the wind -- I can deal with that!!! Oh yeah, since MC always wants to check the data: BTW -- Matt, it was great to finally meet you! We will definitely have to try align our races to run together some time! Thanks for reading and all the support!!!
