Great job, MARATHONER. What a way and what a place to run your first. A tough course and a sub 4 hours too. Looks like you were very even on pacing too. Congradulations.

Dark Secretariat,

Wow! You are a tough and talented runner to run that well on such a difficult course. Congratulations and much respect.

(Psst!--will you escort me around Sofia before my next marathon?)

DH, great job on a tough course with tough weather and a reduced training schedule. You covered a lot of uncharted territory between 14 and 26.2 miles. Wear that swag with pride -- those Boston jackets sure stand out in a crowd. Again, well done.

You are mixing your Boomer Goddesses dearest Dark Horse but I'd be happy to take the credit I think the thanks goes to CINDY!

Pretty amazing that your longest run ever was only 14 miles! Maybe you will be the next Maniac to join the ranks! You've probably started something with your interesting tapering exercise too. All the guys will want to do the Sophia Taper now.

Congratulations on a great first marathon on what sounded like a grueling course. Ya did great!

Great race, DH. Continuous hills and a Sofia taper sound tougher than rain and wind on Boston.

I never in my wildest nightmares ever dreamed of even remotely relating to your running no way no how ever ever until the end of time but your sub-four on limited training and Pink Door-like tapering is like the early years of the jogging boom when us recreationalists would just go run half the race distance as our marathon preparation.

There’s not many runners stupid enough, . . . I mean gutsy enough to do it anymore and your impressive performance would be hard to believe except for your rr passing ilene's muster in the Intrepid links and there being a vaguely familiar ring about sharp gravel on the soles, careening off moguly downhills, pumping your arms like a pro ala ChiRunning, and charging up the hills no matter what that would otherwise seem hard to make up even for you.

Congratulations on a very impressive inaugural marathon and a most well-deserved BQ.

A. Regretable Similarities
1. time - 3:57 vs. 3:53 (3:56)
2. longest run - 14 miles vs. 13.1 (rats, he's changed to 13.2 miles)
3. flourescent green reflective safety waist belt band
4. no chafing
5. no bloody n*pples
6. no blisters
7. no cramps
8. no "wall"
9. hydrate - water or Gatorade every mile and a half
10. no bio-stops
11. SofiaSofia Taper™ = Pink Door carbo
12. sharp gravel hurts on the soles of feet
13. like moguls in downhill skiing.
14. pump arms and slow down as little as possible on the uphills.
15. cutting off the tangents on curves
16. doesn't like to brag
17. doesn't like lab's tights (I'll never run except bare-legged)

B. Differences
1. Screw the man
2. flipping the fingers vs. pointing the finger
3. nutrition - Girl Scout cookies vs. banana/blueberry pancakes
4. Army vs. ROTC
5. foreseeing and then getting hurt vs. DNF even at mile 23 to never get hurt

Dark Horse,
you're a nut! But this nut just ran a brilliant race! You can be very proud to complete your first marathon with such flying colors. You also set a great example to your son, who also has the potential to be a great runner one day.
But you're still a nut .
j

PS.: BTW, how is Dark Colt these days?

Wow! That is one heckova run, DH, especially given the hills and lack of training. You're a strong guy to be able to fight through it like that.

Congratulations on your first marathon!

Dark Horse - you are amazing! But I guess we already knew that before now. Your mental fortitude is incredible. Way to go!

To tell you the truth, I was a little worried about you and this marathon, being that you talk about how injury-prone you are, and I suspected that you were going to push right through the pain (as you did), but possibly injure yourself in the process. How is the aftermath? Any lasting damage?

Nice run and great report.... (I always wondered what one of those swiss watches retailed for). We were wondering about you yesterday as most of the Boston reports did not have satelite coverage (except for the nutty lady in space).

Welcome to the marathon club...you're now as much of a runner as oprah!

Way to run tough DH!!! Sounds like a killer course.

One of my club-mates (Rich F.) helped organize the race. He finished 15th I think - right around four hours as well.

A really good time for a first marathon DH, especially in the circumstances. No doubt the R&R helped numb the pain. Congratulations!
